Windows Vista

Yeah so doesnt anyone know what that website is that has all the windows vista drivers and forums and everything on it? i saw it earlier today but cant find it again!! (and i checked my history)

Is it such a good idea to be using a beta windows os? I mean... a gold windows build is crappy enough...

yeah, i got everything up and running, and i would have to say i dont really like it, Not because of things that dont work, because there arent too many problems in that area, but its WAYYYY too graphical, its just rediculous, it hogs soooo much memory, You can do crazy things like turn your windows 3d and rotate them around, theres just no point, Also, a problem that started in windows XP, they are trying to make it WAY to easy too use, its SO easy to use, its confusing, and just weird, there so many subcategories for things and their organization to help you find things makes no sense.

 

i guess its fun to have, but its not replacing XP anytime soon.

You are expecting too much from a beta.

Beta...does not represent the final product. As James said, you expected too much from the beta. For christ sake, most of it is still work in progress and requires ALOT of tweaking.

If you read the hardware requirements of that Vista thingy, my new comp (8 weeks old) is just enough to run that Windows. I doubt it will be a success shortly. Everyone on XP turned that colorstuff off quickly when they used earlier versions before, so besides more colors and some new search functions, i doubt it will have anything really new. I for my part will stay with XP as long as its possible. It works and runs fine on my machine now.

Even though I only have a P4 2gig with 1gig of ram Windows vista worked pretty good.

Why ? XP is getting old now. In 4-6 years it will be like owning windows 95.

That might be, but then again, I had to live with my older computer for 8 years with a mix of Win95/98, and thought that Windows 98 is still a very viable option. I'm quite sure it will be the same with XP.

When you're like me and strip out as much of the sh!t that Windows ships with and replace it with 3rd party stuff (Right from the shell to major apps), it doesn't matter what version of Windows you're running as long as stuff like DX updates are available for it.

I could be running Windows 98 right now and be just as well off as I am with XP.......save for the instability

 

I won't touch Vista with a 10 foot pole, EVER, not with all the DRM and Sandbox'ing SH!T it's going to come with. I'm sticking with XP as long as I can, then it's 100% Linux for me. Right now I tri-boot 2k/XP/Mandrake and spend most of my time using XP only because of games.

Windows Vista comes out in like 8 or 9 months I think, I know they can get what it already has to work alot better, but they arent going to be able to add much.

 

Its just not that much Better than XP so far.

 

I think im just going to Tri-Boot XP, 2k3, and SuSe 10 Pro soon. If i just reformat the HDD Vista is on, will that get rid of it? or is my PC going to be screwed up because of the boot menu looking for Vista still?
