SuperKoopa Posted October 2, 2005 Author Posted October 2, 2005 sgstair: Ah, christ. So that means that now I have to buy a WiFi card on top of a CF card, GBAMP, Passkey, and USB CF Reader/Writer!? Gah, I'll be all out of cash! JaJa: Yeah I just got into the homebrew scene a few days ago. X_x
Thoop Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 wifi card or if you already have a wireless router at home you van use that.
SuperKoopa Posted October 2, 2005 Author Posted October 2, 2005 (edited) I don't have either. I guess whichever one is cheaper would be the best. Hm. Looks like a router is cheaper. I bet my grandpa has one he's not using, anyways. This stuff is EXPENSIVE! Edited October 2, 2005 by SuperKoopa
sgstair Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 A router is cheaper? really? just watch for deals; in the US you can fairly regularly get a generic wifi card of some sort for only $10-20 -Stephen

Go code that awsome library, you will have a big credit in my first application. I think that I will do a mail client... or a kind of wrapper for gmail... Now get working!
SuperKoopa Posted October 3, 2005 Author Posted October 3, 2005 Alright, get ready for a giant SuperKoopa's cheapest-supplies-he-could-find list! Yay! Now I need someone to tell me if all of these will work. CompactFlash Card - (I couldn't find a 16 or 32 but this is cheap?) Will it do? CompactFlash Reader/Writer? Will this write? - It says it can write, "from one media type to another, making it easy to transfer images from one card or camera to another." Tell me if it can work! GBA MP + Super Passkey w/ Box - It's a given. Wireless Router - This is the cheapest Router I could find, considering I couldn't find anything except laptop WiFi cards. It's possible that my grandpa could let me have one of his D-Link fairly expensive routers, as well. No matter how I look at it though, I'm going to get a Wireless Router for DS WiFi with Mario Kart DS and Animal Crossing: Wild World. So that's it, replies thanked in advance! -SuperKoopa
JaJa Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Yes, if you don't want moonshell and MP3's then 64mb is fine. But watch out for the el cheapo cards as some don't work (i know my bytestor don't).That reader is out of stock, and i've seen cheaper.Try this reader by Lexar is cheaper and reads more cards (future proofing).Yep, you'll need that GBAMP and superkey. There are really cheap wireless USB cards out there.http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=wirele...oogle&scoring=pFroogle is good.
SuperKoopa Posted October 3, 2005 Author Posted October 3, 2005 (edited) Well, that Lexar reader, yeah, I saw it. But it's only a reader.. how am I going to write the files to it? Edit: Ooh, cheap. Good brand. Think this CF Card would work? Edited October 3, 2005 by SuperKoopa
JaJa Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 (edited) Not sure whether that card works.A small list of known working cards is here.http://www.dslinux.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=683That 'reader' does write too.Translates multiple languages. For multi-media fans, a Lexar Multi-Card Reader offers the most versatility. It can read and write them all: CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory Stick Pro, MMC, SD and xD-Picture Card.If you can have a look through ebay.l The compatibility of CF cards has been improved with the GBAMP hacked firmware V2. JaJa Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 It's not similar at all, and it's not just the size of the card. The supercard has RAM (first tiny difference) and runs.ds.gba files.GBAMP specific homebrew doesn't run on it.Also the video playing on the supercard is rubish because it's an old crystal engine.Which was stolen from the GBAMP team anyway.
Hale-Bopp Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 It sounds to me like GBAMP is the standard among homebrewers around here. I suppose it helps to set some kind of standard (if that's possible, is it?) otherwise sharing becomes tricky. I'm starting to lean towards the purchase of a GBAMP myself, rather than going the route of the typical flash card. I'm guessing the GBAMP's only limitation worth mentioning would be lack of RAM? I'll search for more info.
