Yeah all of the games now adays have been dumbed down and made easier to accomodate an increasingly stupider audience that only cares about graphics. Back in the day people were intelligent and could figure out how to beat the hard games.

Regarding hard games, a few C64/128 games spring into my mind, e.g. Bruce Lee and Gyruss. Good times, although frustrating at times
