    lflash: Device Name Found

Today loser over at PSDev found out a new device name called lflash: which gives you block access to all 32 megs of the flash. It also opens the device with read/write access.

Good News: Downgrading your firmware to v1.0 seems a lot more doable. My guess is in the next several days we will see something to downgrade PSP firmware. Then Sony will make a patch so this can’t happen any more.

Bad News: Someone could write to your PSP's flash making it into a doorstop  (unless the Good news above is made then it should be fairly easy to repair.)

Here are some other ones if you are interested:

flash0: - fat access - system file volume

flash1: - fat access - configuration file volume

    ms0: - fat access - memcard

    fatms: fat access to memstick

    isofs: fat access to umd

irda?: block access to irda port (doesnt support seeking), (? = any number - 0-9)

mscm0: block access to memstick (doesnt support seeking)

    mscm?: error 0x80220081 (? = any number - 1-9)

    umd00: block access to umd

    umd01: block access to umd

    umd0?: error 0x80010013 (? = any number 2-7)

    umd??: error 0x8001B002 (?? = any number 08-99)

  2. Demos List and Descriptions

    --------------------------------

BIRDS : You control a blue bird, use the up-arrow to fly up, gravity pulls you down

HE-BTN-PSP : Known as TRIVIA at PSP sites. Press a button and a counter works

FAMICON : Supposed to be a NES emulator

    InfoNES : A NES emulator

LCDcheck : Use it to look for bad pixels. Press a key to change colour.

LIFE : A blueish changing pattern. No key input.

MARIODEMO : A static snapshot of a Mario game

PONG : A working Pong game

PSPCALC : A calculator. Use the keys to move the blue "mouse" pointer

PSP-CHESS : A chessboard where you can move the pieces. No logic implemented yet

    RIN : A GB/GBC emulator

SIMPLETURN : You guide a car around a track

    SNES9X : A SNES emulator

    TETRIS : Um, Tetris

TYSHOOTER : When I see it working, I'll tell you what it does

    SINBALL : A test pattern?

CALENDAR : shows time and date

    HELLOPSP : The original test

    IGO : A japanese game

NGP FILE SELECTOR : A rom selector for ngPSP

NGPSP : A Neogeo Pocket emulator

    PUYO : A game

    What Works on PSPE

    -----------------------

BIRDS1, HE-BTN-PSP, InfoNES (all versions), LCDcheck, LIFE, MARIODEMO, PONG, PSPCALC 1 and 2, PSP-CHESS, RIN v1.0 only, TETRIS 1 and 2, HELLOPSP, IGO, NGPSP, PUYO

    What doesn't work

    ---------------------

BIRDS2 : causes PSPE to crash at startup. The log says "Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)"

FAMICON : when a rom is selected it produces a Japanese error message and freezes

RIN : All versions higher than 1.0 : ROM selector faulty - directory list never changes from ms0.

    SIMPLETURN : Black screen.

SNES9Xv000 : Works... sort of. I need to get more roms to test with.

SNES9xV001 : Says rom header found and ignored then freezes.

TETRIS 3 : Exits to menu

TYFIGHTER : Works... keys don't seem to be correct?

    SINBALL : Exits to menu

CALENDAR : Works except it's an hour slow.

NGP ROM SELECTOR : Encounters an error when copying rom

    Changes from version 6

    ---------------------------

BIRDS1 : Lots of enemy birds instead of one. Seems to be an improvement.

Demos that would close the emu now only cause a return to the menu.

Demos that would require the Task Manager to close them can now be closed normally.

    SNES9Xv000 and TYFIGHTER work better.

  3. nexis2600 has released the world's first NeoGeo Pocket emulator for the PSP. As always, your PSP needs bios v1.00 installed. Alternatively, you can run this in PSPE.

  5. I've been wondering this privately for a while, but now I'm

going public. Where is Mic? He hasn't visited for 10 days,

and the last release of Dualis was a month ago, which I

    find most unusual.

There are two bug reports that have gone unacknowledged,

and I'm wondering if Mic is ok?

Does anyone know anything? Or am I just being paranoid again?

  6. I've obtained a few PSP demos, and have tested them with PSPE-6

When you start PSPE, a menu appears. Use the up/down arrows to choose a demo. Press Enter to run it. When you are finished, click on the X, and the menu will re-appear. Click the X again to close.

Nintendo revealed a new edition of its Game Boy Advance handheld. The Game Boy Micro shrinks the already diminutive Game Boy Advance down further, and still retains the functions of the Game Boy Advance SP. The unit is slightly larger than an iPod mini at four inches wide, two inches tall, and.7 inches deep, and can fit easily into gamer's back pockets.

The unit, which weighs a mere 2.8 ounces, will play all Game Boy Advance games and will have customizable faceplates. However, there are no new multimedia functions to speak of. As Fils-Aime put it, the Micro is "a hip new way to show off your portable passion." The Micro will be released this fall.

  8. A number of emulators have been upgraded recently!

SNESGT v0.200 beta 9 (SNES emulator)

    - removed support for old.ini files with version prior to 0.163b;

    - changed savestates format: current version can read previous version's saves, but current version saves are incompatible with older versions of the emulator

SSF Ver0.07 alpha R5 (Saturn emulator)

    - Fine bug correction is almost the case.

    - User clipping (outside drawing) of VDP1 was not functioning.

    - When this was corrected, the polygon of a movement fighter cancer dam supplementary biography came to be displayed.

    - Transparent dot check processing of sprite was changed.

    - The exclusive operation of CD block thread was not perfect.

    - Timing is severe, and although it is rare to become a problem, it has corrected.

    - Operation of a part of 68000 commands was changed.

    - An out run and the space Harrier of the initial version move.

    - Operation with SCSP built-in [ DSP ] was corrected.

    - CDDA which did not sound until now should also be reproduced perfectly.

    - Since operation of CD block is doubtful, I want to correct ahead of 68000.

    - Soft most which stops at an error may come to move by correcting

    E3 2005: PS3 & PSP Buddies

    Source: IGN

Sony's handheld can be used to play with PS3 games.

In its PS3 unveiling, SCE announced that the PlayStation 3 would have support for USB 2.0, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and online networking. Those first two are the biggest concerns for PSP owners, as Sony officially confirmed that the Wi-Fi configuration of the PS3 would allow the PSP to wirelessly connect with the home console. No wires, no connectors, no muss, no fuss. Of course, the PSP also has outlets for the USB 2.0, which might allow for corded connections as well as wireless, if necessary.

PSP won't just be used for wireless file transfers -- according to the official specs for the system, the PSP can be used as a controller for the console. Whether PSP will be used as a PS3 controller much is up to developers -- the GBA and GameCube got along great together, and the PSP obviously has a lot more capable hardware to do interesting things than that duo. Whether PS3 developers enjoy that gimmick of a system with a full-color screen or else decide to stick to the more complicated PS3 controller configuration is a matter we will find out in time.
