  1. Shiba, Your best bet is to try System-Mods.com (http://www.system-mods.com/index2.php). They're the only official reseller actually in the US for X2s. The rest are either UK or Canadian and it may cost you a little more to ship from those countries. Make sure you get the X2.3b Lite Plus since that's the solderless one. As for installation diagrams, Team Xecuter has great walkthrough diagrams on their website (http://www.teamxecuter.com/x23b.htm) to make it easier to install. The hardest thing you're going to have with the solderless modchip is aligning the d0 point. It's very finicky and it must be aligned just right or else the chip won't work.
  2. Yeah, I've had Stepmania with DDR 8th workin' for years on my CPU and recently set it up for my Xbox. I got all the songs (1st - 8th along with PSX Exclusives and Extra/Solo Mixes). You can get every mix here: http://www.ddruk.com/ Good luck DDRing!!
  3. infidelity, sp1200 and Shibathedog are correct on about everything, but to clear up things, here's what you need to get/do: The Broadband adapter is a device that plugs into the bottom of your Gamecube where those 3 panels are. It basically gives the Gamecube an Ethernet Port. This is how you will connect to your PC and backup games from the Gamecube. Phantasy Star Online is used as the means of uploading the ripping/loading software onto the Gamecube so you can backup/load games. Crossover cable allows you to connect your PC to your Gamecube directly. It is a special type of Cat 5 cable with 2 of the 8 pairs switched (the TX and RX pairs) so that two devices can talk to each other without having to have some sort of interface. Like SP1200 said earlier, you can bypass this if you have a Router/Switch/Hub, but all your cables then would need to be Straight Through cables (no pairs switched). Hope that made sense and good luck backing up!!
  4. Okay, I've done this so I'll add what I know. You need the following items: Gamecube Gamecube Broadband Adapter Phantasy Star Online Ep. 1 & 2 A Crossover Cable between your PC and Gamecube Now you need the following software: Gamecube ISO Tool (Used to make Backups) Paradox Gamecube Disc Server (Used to play Backups over the network to the GC) Once you've done that, load up Phantasy Star Online (hereafter PSO) and input the following info under the network settings under Network Profile in Options: IP: 192.168.1.32 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.100 Primary DNS: 192.168.1.100 Change your network settings on your CPU to the following: IP: 192.168.1.100 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Now start up the Gamecube ISO Tool on your CPU and start and online game with PSO. It should load the ISO Tool to the Gamecube instead of PSO logging into Sega's servers. Watch the screen and it will tell you to change discs so you can start ripping to your computer. The output file will be a.gcm file. You can use this file using the Paradox Disc Server to upload the.gcm over the network and play it again on your Gamecube. It also takes a long time to rip GC games (about an hour and a half) and I've only had a few successfully play back flawlessly. The others have some stuttering issues (due to the 10Mb network locked by Sega's PSO). Hope that helps. There's also a good article here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/61273
  5. I'd definitely say go with a X2.3 as they're really easy to install. I've done 15 of them and no probs so far. I haven't messed with the Xenium yet as I'm trying to get my work to purchase one so I can test it out, but I've heard great things from them so far. Only downside is the addition of onboard soldering of 2 extra points if you have a Xbox 1.5. As for BIOS, I'd say use the X2 4981 just like Prican said. It has all of the features you need along with the Xbox Live safety. The only bad pard about the X2.3b is that the main distributor for the US, System-Mods doesn't seem to have any of the Lites in stock. If you wanna shell out more cash, you could shoot for the Pro. Another benefit is definitely price point. X2.3b goes for $38 while the Xenium is about $50+.
  6. I've gotten that same problem during installs and it stems from a bad d0 connection. If it's soldered on, you might see if someone can solder to the back d0 as it has a much larger pad than on the top of the motherboard. Make sure you know which version of the Xbox you have, because the back d0 is different for the older ones (1.0-1.1) vs. the new ones (1.2-1.5). I use back d0 for every install I do now and it's much easier to do and it gives you a much more solid connection.
  7. Supposedly the earliest he's gonna work on VMM is April. Note I said earliest, but could be delayed further depending on problems and other things.
  8. It should be in the readme, but when you load the rom and it asks to Press OK to continue, press Left on the D-Pad, then Right on the D-Pad. This should get you past it.
  9. Yeah, I figured out the multiple ROM paths thing the other day ago. I think I'm gonna stick with what I have until MAME w/ VMM comes out. Maybe once VMM comes out, it might have a new Core as well (granted how fast MAME releases are). Time to wait for April.
  10. I used to set my answering machine up to send out that Special Information Tone (SIT) so that the other end would disconnect. It worked quite effectively and I had no telemarketing calls for months. The problem with answering is that their machine records it as someone or something picked up, so it adds it to a list to call again later. Using SIT, their machines recorded my number as a Disconnected Number and added my phone number to a Do Not Call list for a couple months or so. Pretty fun concept, except you have to screen your calls. Obviously this isn't as effective as it used to be, but it'll probably still work on those systems which haven't upgraded yet. All you have to do is record the Special Information Tone on your answering machine before you record your real message and you're all set. More info about SIT is here: http://privatecitizen.com/sit.html I'm unfortunately too nice to chew out telemarketers. Now if they keep badgering me on the phone, then that's another story...
  11. Yeah, I knew it didn't have VMM. I'm just on an Archive binge for my Xbox and most of my sets are done except for the bigs ones like MAMEoX, FBAX, and Kawa-X. Did he mention in his update if his next release will include VMM, 'cause it seems all the others do now. Edit: I just read the news on Xbox-Scene. I guess no VMM until at least April.
  12. Okay, I just acquired a full set of MAME roms for my Xbox, however after trying to upload all of them, it failed to transfer some. After doing some research, it seems the Xbox has a 4096 files limit per folder, so now I'm stuck trying to figure out how to add the other ROMs. So before I venture further down this quest, I thought I'd ask if anyone else has figured out a way around this limit. I checked for an INI file or config file to add/modify the ROM Path, but I didn't see one and it didn't mention that in the Readme. Any suggestions, or should I just delete all the red roms that don't work so I might have enough room??
  13. Hey Prican, On that FBA update when KOF2K3 finally works, will it also include the other banned games as well, like SSV, SVC: Chaos, ROTD, etc.?? I know there was a previous post that had a FBAXXX that had the current banned games with it, but I haven't had a chance to try it out, even though I have it downloaded.
  14. The only version that I know that plays almost every game is ciccior's version of Kawa-X. John, does the banned games (i.e. SSV, KOF2K2, PIM, ROTD, etc.) have a plus sign (+) in front of them?? Also, does it the Health Bar in ROTD have a bar, but there's no health in it or is the Health Bars completely missing??
  15. madelves, Try using this site as it has both of the newer versions of Kawa-Hex:
  16. Well that really sux I guess it takes some work to figure out the GBA connectivity protocol and then implement it. Oh well, there's always hope in a future release.
  17. I had one like that before. It sounded really distorted. Try re-downloading another version. I used the Direct Connect Hubs to find another good sounding copy.
  18. Has anyone tried the NetPlay options in the X-Port Emulators?? I sure would like to try out Zelda: Four Swords sometime.
  19. I just checked Xbins.org and it doesn't seem that there are any.
  20. Okay, I see what you're saying now. Well, I guess you could either get Final Burn Alpha X for your CPS Games since that doesn't have a IGR with Button Presses, or shell out some money for an actual Xbox Arcade Joystick. I've seen them go for around $50 - $70 US and if you really want the arcade experience, get an X-Arcade, but they're a good $100 a piece. I have 2 of them myself and they're awesome. Now if I could just get them to stay completely still while moving the joystick and hitting buttons like an arcade... Plus Lantus's emulators (xSnes9x and FBAx) support X-Arcade layouts, so it makes compatabilty with the emulators nice. I mean are any of the original developers still working on Kawa-X anymore?? The last release was a long time ago and there's been no news since. I hope someone picks up Kawa-X and keeps porting new versions of it, like how MAME-X was done.
  21. ciccior's version also has a problem with the Health Bars. In fact they don't show up at all. However I love the fact that I have every KOF from 94 to 2002 in one emulator. Makes it very handy!!
  22. Tetris Attack Rulz!! Try playin' Panel de Pon (Japanese version of Tetris Attack) on Very Hard. It's harder than Tetris Attack. Can't wait for the Puzzle Collection for the Cube since it's gonna have it on their. Back on topic, my girlfriend loves to play lots of RPGs and other nick nack stuff, especially that Puzzle Bobble game. She'll play that game for hours. Oh and she plays Phantasy Star Online also. She won't touch fighting games though. She'll go read a book whenever I play any fighting game.
  23. No way, you're never too late!! However I'm thinkin' the prices of Xboxes might drop within' the next 4 months or so. Also the initial investment of modded Xboxes is kinda expensive since you gotta buy the Console, Hard Drive, and Modchip (in most cases). I'm sure everyone who has modded theirs agrees it was a worthwhile investment. I know mine sure has been!!
  24. What dashboard are you using?? EvoX has an IGR built in and you can enable or disable it. In addition you can map what buttons you want to use to enable IGR. It's normally LRWB, but you can add start to it as well. As for removing buttons from Kawa-X, I think someone would have to have the source code to do that, but unfortunately the Kawa-X source hasn't been released yet.
