    From the testing I've done, it's actually quite good; can't say if it is as good as ePSXe, but good nonetheless.

    Not really. That one isn't based on ethnic cleansing, it's supposed to be a historic recreation of the JFK assasination. They both have controversy because they are games but there is nothing else similar. Yes yes I know. uh... Nevermind, brainfart.

    Some groups consider Matroska to be much better of a container than regular XviD. I wouldn't know, Matroska is mostly used for dual-audio DVD-rips.

    The drive could be broken as well (since reinstalling Windows and downgrading the firmware does very little)... How's the warranty on it?

    My GSA-4163B reads DVD+Rs just fine. Not exactly the same model, but close enough. have you tried downgrading the firmware?
