The P1 rom is not NRX compliant. Either there's protection/bankswitching/ whatever, or it's borked. If you want tackle the issue yourself, you'd better know how to handle a hex editor and how the data is laid out in the rom.

Does get much better graphically and gameplay-wise when the PS2 has MGS3, Soul Calibur III and Tekken 5. And more high-profile games are on their way. I'd say that the PS2 starts it retirement run at the end of 2006/mid-2007. Of course, it takes a lot longer before the system is considered dead, unless the PS3 passes the backward compatibility thing with flying colors and the price drops.

Just to be on the clear here, the reason why no emulator offers the BIOS with the binaries is quite simple: a BIOS is a program that is copyrighted, therefore making it illegal to distribute it without the copyright owner's permission.
