  1. Though I don't mean to perpetuate this, I can say one thing for sure: nes6502 is not one to be trifled with. His recent reply is clear evidence that he walks softly but carries a big stick. Perhaps cannon would be more appropriate. It's a fact that he knows what he's doing in all facets and his track record speaks for itself. We are all really blessed to have him.
  2. Are you guys using RGB monitors for your cabs? If so, then where do you get yours?
  3. Kenshiro, I'd just be very happy to see v2.3 in FBL either way, my friend. I hope nes decides to add it somehow.
  4. *Sigh* Since this thread evolved into exactly what I knew it would, I will just say that after spending a tremendous amount of time with the original FBA-XXX and Pro derivatives for so long, it is painfully obvious that FBL blows both away. The emulation is more accurate, the GUI is an amazing leap forward, the built-in cheat database for all games is marvelous, the entire emulator itself is much more stable, the HDtv support with filters is dramatically improved, I could go on and on.....and on. My personal friends can attest that I literally grew up in arcades -- that's where the stork dropped me off. These games are my legacy and I'm very aware of what should be what with the games FBL supports especially. Compared to the other emulators I have on my xbox, I can clearly tell that the games in FBL have superior emulation compared to any previous versions of FBA. FBL makes all of the older versions obsolete in my personal opinion, solely on how it runs the games. At the end of the day, the games are why I'm even interested in these emulators at all, CoinOps included. If a new version wasn't up to snuff in this area, I would most definitely say so regardless of who's working on the project. As far as Mame on the Xbox is concerned, it's MAME on the Xbox. Final Burn is Final Burn. For as long as any kind of FBA exists on the XBOX, I will be using it to run CPS1, CPS2, Neogeo, Sega, Psikyo, Cave, and Toaplan based games. Nothing else can run those games as well. One example someone could use against FBL is the slowdown in ESPrade. Like Metal Slug 2, that slight slowdown is accurate to the arcade version, which FBL is more faithful to. But unfortunately the slowdown and stuttering in CoinOps for many CPS2 games isn't accurate or faithful to the arcade hardware. There are more cases than that where it's better to use FBL. The R3 version of CoinOps (my personal fav version of MAME due to its HD support) is worth having around for the games that FBL doesn't support. R3 Showcase ended with a bang in my opinion. It was a good stopping point for CoinOps, as Night Slashers and Osman were added for those who really wanted to see them added. FBL clearly is the best version of FBA on the Xbox (and best Xbox emulator period in my honest opinion). FBA-XXX Pro was my fav before, but FBL takes it to another level starting from it's core. The emulator core is updated, the drivers are updated, the romsets are no longer ancient, the HDtv support has been updated, the GUI is updated -- I just call it the way I see it. FBL's just got a lot going for it with such a polished first release. The talented people behind it bodes well for it's future and the Xbox scene in general. It comes down to personal preference. We aren't going to have one emulator that does everything better than the apps which are dedicated to handling more specific tasks. We also aren't going to have an FBA on the Xbox that runs all of MAME's games. That was never the point. Unfortunately, this topic was flamebait from the very first message and it has followed it's natural progression. Stuff like this is why I have so few posts in 3+ yrs here. I see no lack of appreciation for either emulator; and it really isn't even a comparison with a leveled playing field in the first place. In summation, I think most users can truly appreciate both apps. So this dispute is useless. I hope the thread starter can find the answers he seeks through all of the garbage in his way. Now if only we could get this thread closed.
  5. Hmm...I wonder what nes thinks about this. Having 3.0 included in FBL releases as the default neogeo bios would be an awesome step forward, but I'm not sure it's going to happen. The fact that this particular bios has to be paid for is very unfortunate.
  6. @Iceman, there are some newer cheats in the 2.3 bios for games that didn't have them in previous versions. There are also some bug fixes that were made in the 2.3 version. Does anyone know of a way to turn on the Free Play option for the Neogeo games in FBL? I always did this via the DipSwitches in the older FBA's.
  7. But there are a lot of purists out there who are more serious about collecting all the sets. And like I said, there are some significant differences between some of those clones that make them worth keeping. This is especially true for some CPS2 games. My personal opinion: I'd really like to keep the clones around. If the option to hide clone sets doesn't become available, then we can just add the versions we prefer to play to the Favorites menu. That's the perfect workaround to sticking to one romset if you don't care much about having a complete set.
  8. Found a bug: Forgotten Worlds (US) Forgotten Worlds (World) *Neither game has rotary dial controls for Player 2. The option to map "Turn up" and "Turn down" exists for Player 1 only in the control settings menu.
  9. Some game clones differ significantly between regions -- eg. there are some CPS2 roms which are censored and others which are not, for example. I plan to keep the full set from the final build of Kenshiro's FBAxxx Pro release. Collecting the rest of the 2700 games FBL supports will be fun.
  10. This is really cool. The Universe bios 2.3 is definitely the best of the different Neogeo bios available. There are so many different features it provides to the Neogeo games too.
  11. Nes, it's really great to see that your emphasis is on having the most accurate emulation possible with the games. It really, really shows in this emulator. In fact, this FBL emulation is significantly improved over the FBA XXX and Pro versions on the games I've tested. I just didn't want to speak too soon. If you keep emulation accuracy for the games as your 1st priority, then it would be quite fine with me. Many of us share that same philosophy. The scene is so very fortunate that you were able to release this legendary app.
  12. It was me who asked for the option to toggle frameskipping on or off. Would it not be possible to turn it on and off for the games on an individual basis? If not, then I would still love to have the option to turn frameskipping on or off in the emulator, as long as it doesn't cause a problem somewhere else like CPU overclocking does. I think it couldn't hurt as long as users know what they're doing. You just explained to me when I should and should not use it -- but I'd still like to see this option added. It's one of the few things on my wish list for this great app. Maybe the changelog should have a big warning message attached to it for people who don't know any better. Honestly, I really do hope you decide to add this option. Excellent.
  13. No not really. I just tried starting a CPS2 game. The default settings in the GUI are Bilinear and SuperScale2X for 480. When the game started I checked the settings and that's what they were because it was the first time I had run that particular game. I changed it to Point and Scanlines and exited the game. I then started the game again and it was still Point and Scanline. Are you running off a DVD, change the Path.ini, etc...? Oh, I'm sorry nes, but I meant the in-game Service menu settings aren't saving for my CPS2 games. For example: turning on Free Play, Increasing the difficulty, and such changes in the Arcade settings have to be redone each time I run a game I've already played. Sorry for the confusion. My video options are saved for each game just fine. It's the changes in the arcade settings menu that don't save. This might be the same for the rest of the games besides CPS2 too. I'll check again to confirm. EDIT: This affects both CPS1 and CPS2 games. The settings for turning on Free Play, changing the number of rounds, turning on the Demo sound, etc in the Arcade settings menu do not save when you exit a game and restart. The arcade settings for NeoGeo games is saved fine though.
  14. While I truly believe CoinOps R3 ended up as the best version of MAME on the XBox, I think this post here from nes6502 pretty much nails it for the thread starter. There will obviously be some exceptions based on varying user preferences, but there really isn't any point in Xbox users pitting these two (or any Xbox apps) against one another. The Xbox scene benefits either way by such marvelous efforts. I think of how far the scene has come since just a couple of years ago. Who would've thought we'd ever get this far.
  15. Hmmm.. my arcade settings are not saving. Each time I exit a game (or FBL in general) I have to go into the diagnostic settings and set everything how I previously had it all over again. I'm playing mostly CPS2 games now at 720P. My current settings = Point filtering on, Software filters off. Any ideas nes?
  16. Nes, does FBL implement any type of frameskipping or autoframeskipping? If so, is there a way to toggle it on or off? I would personally disable it in every case where it's not needed because I'm a fan of keeping all of the original animation in most cases. In the FBAXXX Pro ini, frameskip could be disabled completely. Just a question. So far I can't tell that it's skipping any frames on any of the games in FBL, but I haven't tried out the most sprite heavy titles yet either.
  17. Don't worry, we will test it plenty. I plan to do some extensive testing and I'll report any issues I find -- I just hope FBL's creator will be around to support it for awhile. I'm still trying to catch my breath because this really knocked my socks off. Thanks on the controller tip. I went into the ini and changed it, now everything is set. The bad news is testing FBL is going to be very time consuming due to so many games. I thank you again, but just saying that will never be enough.
  18. Does anyone know if there is a way to go into the in game menu options with Controller 2, 3, or 4? My problem is I've been using Sega Saturn controllers thru a device called a Magic Box adapter (ever since FBA XXX Pro) and they don't have analog sticks. Is it possible to implement a way to get into the menu options with a controller other than Controller 1?
  19. The green loading screen is normal for all neogeo roms, especially the larger ones. It's not a problem with your bios. Happy gaming!
  20. Spent some quality time with this emulator and all I can say so far is WOOOOOW!!!! FBL seems professionally done. It shows that a meticulous degree of work went into it. Everything with the GUI is perfect and, most importantly, the games I've played run awesome. Great driver code for CPS2, Neogeo, Cave, etc. I never imagined an app this good could be made for the Xbox. It's clearly the best emu on the XBox in my opinion, hands down. Nes, (aka IronMan) you are a legend. The bar you've set here is as high as it can possibly get and I'm honestly just blown away. FBL is just too good for words.
  21. Haven't had time to get anything installed or running yet, but I'm gonna say a big THANKS to you anyway, nes6502.
  22. Agreed. We can hold out for the issues to get cleared up just fine, so no worries nes.
  23. Nes6502: First of all, I'd like to say again that I really appreciate the great effort you've put into this project. We're very fortunate to have you doing this. But I just want to let you know that I intend to report any issues I find to you (if I find any) just in case you decide to do a few revisions at some point. With your track record, we have no reason to be anything but excited for 1.0 regardless. I'm shocked to see FBL set to go finally. But it's been a long time coming, so roll on tomorrow!!! Thank you again!
  24. I'm very excited to hear this. Can't wait to try FBL out.
