Alpha Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 RUMOR: The controller for the Xbox2 will come with repositioned Start and Select buttons, no more Black and White buttons, and the possibility of four trigger buttons. Source: A now-dead link off of the Spong.com forums (see captured.jpg above). The official story: Our first contact with the Fort Knox that is Microsoft PR netted an innocent "let me check with the folks closer to the product," suggesting the snap was provocative enough to get the Rumor Control juices flowing up Redmond way. A quick recovery shuttled through the ether moments later: "Not that I'm even saying there IS a product." Right...we do know the feeling. Then came a third e-mail flowing from even higher sources in the PR food chain. "Sorry...can't comment on rumors." And an either very astute, or red herring-ish, "But what do you make of that quarter?" Hmmm...we hadn't thought about that quarter. What we heard: Not so much what we heard, but what we saw. Skeptics dismiss the controller (on the left) as an obvious "knock off" controller, maybe from Taiwan. They point to the apparent cheapness of the plastic and lack of a logo. But neither of these are proof--why would a prototype have a logo, and what else would you knock up a quick design with but the cheapest plastic? We've never seen a "cheap knock off" with such good design choices before, either. The controller's smaller; the positioning of the Start and Select buttons is much better, and apparently there's room for two trigger buttons on the back. And we've been told that the Xbox2 controller will "definitely" have two triggers on both sides (from an informed source). Oh, and the thumb sticks and D-pad look like official parts. And why would any Xbox controller--even a knockoff--be missing two buttons entirely? Upon further inspection, well, there was no further inspection due to the snap being removed from the live servers…buggy server or some large corporate entity intent on keeping its secrets to itself? And what about that quarter? Bogus or not bogus?: The quarter is real. The controller, well, when we add it all up, is too. Not Bogus.Credits: http://GameSpot.com -------------------------------------------------------- I'd say it looks and probabaly will feel a lot better than the currenct XBOX controller. What do you think?
badguy Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Four trigger buttons on the back? Where i have already seen that? (coughPS2cough)
Gryph Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 I'm pretty sure it's just going to feel the same.
AntiWinner22 Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 That is one ugly controller. Why don't they make it like the Pelican controllers? Those are actually best, I think. I swear by it now. $15 for a GameStop version, too.
Alpha Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 Rumor control...Rumor control.Suspected Image of the New XBOX2 Controller!EDIT: That is one nice looking improvised XBOX controller, AntiWinner22. What do those 2 extra buttons do on the top of the controller?

BoomBa_GoosE Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 i ono, i liked the logitech wireless better than the rumored new contrroller for x2.

What do those 2 extra buttons do on the top of the controller? They act as the black and white buttons. It is perfect. Anon.
OverlordMondo Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Why don't they make it like a controller that doesn't suck ass? The DC controller would be a good example. The GC controller would not.
Wizard Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 It still looks too big...I got money it would still be able to crush a man and a bear at the same time.
Shibathedog Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 ok, that suspected new controller is the most ruined controller i have ever seen, plus, its fake, i swear ive seen that controller for sale somewhere online, its just a cheap chinese offbrand controller. BTW that pelican one and logitech one rule, I seriously cannot use any other controller for xbox, none of them either have the right button placement, or theyd ont fit right, or...yech....theres just something crappy about all of them but those two.
Sane Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 The number one thing that must change is the d-pad. With good 2D fighters on the way finally I'm still forced to buy a saturn pad converter to be able to play. Other than that and the placement of the black and white buttons (just put them in a row like they should) the controller S is perhaps one of the best controllers I have used. The analogue sticks are very high quality, and I like the fact that's they're not too loose but have some resistance. Same for the triggers, very comfortable and durable and good resistance. The face buttons aren't that great though, the pressure sensitive thing has got to go, it's only annoying and no games even use it. The d-pad, like on any controller with the single exception of the Saturn model 2 pad, stinks. Overall shape of the controller is good. So in short: keep sticks and triggers, add 2 digital smaller triggers maybe, change d-pad into something saturn like, lose the pressure sensitve face buttons and add 2 to make a row of 3 x 3. Perfect controller .
