Shibathedog Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 I have this strange urge to play Duke Nukem, unfortunatly i have XP and its crap version of DOS! Does anyone know of one of those DOS emulators for XP that can run Duke Nukem? Or how about one of those GL enhancement things, that would probably work because thats how i play Quake 1! Thanks in advance
Gryph Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 (edited) Get the GL enhancement. That's what I use right now. Get it from here. It kicks major amounts of ass. I'm on the second episode right now but I'm distracted by my Dreamcast for now so I'll have to finish it some other time. Nice to see you have the urge to play such a great game. Now I'm just waiting for OpenGL ROTT...pure pwnage. Edited June 7, 2004 by GryphonKlaw
Wizard Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 I would love an OpenGL version of ROTT...i wish I had something with dos here.
Gryph Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 You can also try this Win32 port without all the OpenGL frills. This project looks promising too but I don't think its fully ready.
Agozer Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 I would love an OpenGL version of ROTT...i wish I had something with dos here.Yes, ROTT would kick ass and take names when OpenGL'd... Too bad my comp is too slow from OpenGL Duke Nukem 3D, but Doom works ok.
Shibathedog Posted June 8, 2004 Author Posted June 8, 2004 alright thanks! i got it working just fine!
StriderVM Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 Umm.. Excuse me for the noobness... But... Whats ROTT? >.<

Fatal Rose Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 I knew Gryph would have all the answers regarding Duke Nukem.
Gryph Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 One of the greatest underrated FPS games ever made Man that game owned so much.Yeah, it was defintely very underrated. It's because it came out at the worst possible time, right after Doom II and right before Heretic. And both those games were extremely hardcore as well. Its funny how the three greatest old school shooters were released in a span of 3 months. And ROTT's multiplayer was one of the best ever, I still play it with friends when we are on a LAN. It was also the first game to get the highest gore rating (4 for Wanton and Gratuitous Violence) in that old ass RSAC system. LUDICROUS GIBS!

Ludicrous gibs indeed, I still occasionally se floating eyeball in my sleep. The dual handguns were so great. lol: Not to meantion that the enemies would beg for mercy on their knees....the dialogue alone is hilarious. What bothers me though is that I've never manged to beat the game. The last boss didn't even flinch when I started pouring rockets into him. I taped down the Control button, and put on God mode...went to see a movie, came back after 2 hours...and there it was, still not dead. Man, monks give me the creeps.

You're not supposed to beat El Oscuro by shooting at him. Actually, you're not supposed to shoot at him at all. Well atleast for his first form. You just let him drain all his energy. Then you have to destroy his larvae. Once the larvae are destroyed, you face his last form but you could only damage him by bringing him to fire pits in the middle of the level. I was so pissed when I found out that's how I had to beat him. I didn't the exact same thing you did and was like "WHAT THE HELL!? An hour of constant heat seekers didn't kill you!?" Ah hell....Well, back to playing that game from the beginning then. Finally, the mystery that has depraved me of sleep and sane thought has been solved.
Shibathedog Posted June 8, 2004 Author Posted June 8, 2004 yeah i stil have all these games memorized Ive been on an old games craze, bringing back all the memories, and theres a 90% chance im going to give up modern gaming altogether, i think the old ones rule way more than new ones, plus this costs ALOT less
