Agozer Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Use the game's own save feature, not savestates. Savestates couldn't care less about what savetype the emulator is set to use, but at the same time, they shouldn't be used to completely substitute a regular in-game save.
grammarking Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Oh I thought it would be something stupid like that. Thanks a lot, working fine now.
TheOrangeDart Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 im new to this site and this forum thing so i really hope im doing this correctly... if not, soemone help! anyways, im playing Pokemon Emerald on my VBA and i dont know how to save it correctly... Im at this part (Elite Four) where once ive beaten the game it tries to save the game as if it was on the GBA. but since im not using the GBA, it doesnt work like that. i usualy have to go to File > Save. So when the game tries to save it brings me to the menu and where i have to load my saved game. but then it tells me that i dont have a saved game...so i go to File > Load, and im at the part right before the Elite Four, and they arent beaten... Is there a way i can save and load just like the game was on a GBA? just hit start and go to SAVE? if this is far off subject and i posted this in the wrong place, then i have no idea what im doing.....
Agozer Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Is there a way i can save and load just like the game was on a GBA? just hit start and go to SAVE?Yes. All games have an in-game save feature and the emulator supports this (after all the emulator emulates the hardware, and by proxy, the game as well). Do not use savestates (as in clicking File --> Save in the emulator) as your primary saving method. They can be easily corrupted and are unreliable as a result. If you've read the first post in this thread, you should be aware of the steps needed to make "proper" saving work in Pokemon Emerald. After that, you also need to make sure that the folder VBA treats as a save folder is not marked as Read-Only (as you might guess, Read-Only denotes that the folder cannot be written to, hence no save files will ever be created in it, be it "proper" saves made in-game or savestates).
Nike Mikey Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I am a newbie at everything around here, from this site to the whole emulation thing. Haldrie and Agozer, please don't get mad at me for being as stupid as I am! It looks like people haven't been here in a long time, especially Haldrie... but I've done pretty much everything that people have said to do on here, and none of it has worked. I'm trying to save in-game for Pokemon FireRed. Auto IPS patching is on. I tried the vba-over.ini file, but realized you don't need that if you are only going to play one game, and Pokemon FireRed is the only game that I will play. Please don't tell me to read something that someone has said already, because I've read the whole thread a couple times in the last couple of days (I know, I'm desperate). Right now, I am on Cinnibar Island, almost to the Elite Four, and I wanted to trade with someone. That's when I realized that I have been saving it wrong (save states). I also tried cybervegeto22's thing on the top of page 12. But of course, even that didn't work for me. So, please reply back to me...
Agozer Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 In order to get in-game saving to work, you need to set the correct savetype and start a new game. If you switch the savetype mid-game, in-game saving will not work, even if the correct savetype is set. That's from my experience anyway, but I could be wrong. If Haldrie shows up, he can clarify this. P.S. There's really nothing you can do, since trading relies on the in-game save data being present.
Majixz Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Hey ive had the same problems but i have the emulator on my xbox can someone help us out?  or lease a gameshark or codebreaker that works. Or if theirs a way to fix this ''SAVED FAILED''
Riwaks Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 hey just started playing fire red on vba. my problem is ive changed the save type to flash 128k and it was all working fine and now after restarting 3 times >.< the save files wont load and the game starts as if i had never saved in the first place. i dont get it, im using the in game save and i can see the save files sitting there in its folder but they wont load, any help is very appreciated
Agozer Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Are you using vba-over.ini settings, or have you manually set the emulator to use Flash 128k? Also, which build of VBA?
Riwaks Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 VisualBoyAdvance-1.8.0-beta3, manually set it to 128k settings
Agozer Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 How about giving VBA-M a try, and if manual settings don't work, then use vba-over.ini.
Mortheis5 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Hey. Now I haven't read EVERY post here but I've done my share of skimming. I have a problem saving Pokemon FireRed. It starts saving then says "Saving error. Please exchange the backup memory." What does that mean and how do I fix it..? I just really want to be able to have in-game saves.. Any help will be appreciated =3
Agozer Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 The answer just might reveal itself to you if you'd take the time to read the first post in this entire topic thoroughly.
