    Entry 9: Go Winter

Ladybugs... OR JAPANESE FLYING BEETLES?!? That's what we get in my city. some strange asian beetle that looks like a ladybug, but it bites.
  2. First you must understand that neither SNES nor Genesis emulation is anywhere near being perfect. With that in mind, here are some emulators for each system on the NDS: PicoDriveDS - Genesis emulator. Latest version: v0.1.6 Snezzi DS - SNES emulator. Latest version: v0.25a SNEmulDS - SNES emulator. Latest version: v0.3 beta snesDS - SNES emulator. Latest version: 12/13/05 As for flash carts, there are two kinds you can buy for the DS. Slot-1 and Slot-2. Slot-1 flash carts go into the NDS card slot on the top of the DS, so all you need is the flashcard and a memory stick. Slot-1, however, does not support GBA games. Slot-2 flash carts, however, do support GBA games, but they require extra equipment, such as a PassMe, to run NDS games. A good choice for either of those would be to buy an M3 product, as they are very compatible with homebrew and have many other built-in functions as well, such as music playing, movie and photo viewing, and ebook reading.
  3. First, if the Supercard came with any software for putting ROMs onto it, make sure you're using the latest version, as well as the latest firmware for the Supercard itself. SNES emulation on the DS is very limited for the moment, so your SNES games might not work with the emulator. See if you can find a compatibility list and check it out.
  4. Here's the official "Where to Buy" from m3adapter.com http://www.m3adapter.com/global_sell_net.htm Here are some places that sell NDS equipment: www.natrium42.com www.kicktrading.ca www.jandaman.com
  5. This comic is one of the best I've seen in a while. It mixes cool looking art with witty (and sometimes outright funny) humor. Highly recommended.

  9. The fact that it only goes up to 2.71 only means that your version of DevHook only supports firmwares 1.50 through 2.71, and nothing above, to be emulated. If you enabled the "2.xx -> 2.00" option and selected 2.60 as your firmware to be emulated, I do not know why the game would not load. You know, downgrading is another option for you. If you did, you could then update to 3.03 OE-A, which is a lot easier to run UMD ISOs from. Also, it has support for PSX ISOs, so I'd look in to downgrading if I were you. If you do, however, make sure you know whether you have a TA-082 PSP by looking at this picture, as it will affect which downgrader you use. Contact me for more help.
  10. Nice review. I totally agree with it. Great RPG for fans of the genre!
  11. You are correct in assuming that Slot-1 flashcarts and memory card adapters cannot play GBA games. Although I have not heard about slow speed from slow SD cards, I do know that the M3 requires a computer to put new ROMs on, and it has its own software for that. However, after you put the NDS games onto the SD card, you can load them from the M3's built in menu. I have at least 50 games on mine. And yes, to play NDS games with an M3 Lite you DO need a passthru device, and you can find bundle packs online that include a passkey or another device with the M3. Now, as for the systems you listed, NES is the only one I have heard of working well. SNES and Genesis are not emulated very well right now. As for movies, the M3 has software for converting movies, music and photos for viewing/listening on your DS. The only cheaper alternative I know of is the Supercard, but I have no experience with them.
  12. The list is still up HERE.
  13. Hey, that's got Clive Owen in it, right? The guy from "Inside Man?"
  14. Thanks for the link, but I got a working DXAR file. (Thanks, floopy! ) Now I'm a proud owner of a PSP with 3.03 OE-A2!
  15. I did one, too... but there's an even better entry on my 1up (see my "homepage")
  16. When I mentioned installing 2.60, I meant installing it for DevHook, not for the system firmware. This file will install firmware 2.60 for DevHook (ex: so you can emulate 2.60 with DevHook)
  17. I'm trying to update my 3.02 OE-B to 3.03 OE-A, but I'm running into some problems. I got the 1.50 and 3.03 update EBOOTs just fine, and I got them to work with "oeupdatemaker," but the DXAR file it produces comes out as 0KB. This, of course, does not work with "303oeflasher" so I cannot update. I do not know why this happens, and I do not have any mods on this fw, so I don't see why it shouldn't work. Any advice, or does someone want to share their DXAR file with me?

  19. First, do NOT update to 2.81. I'm not sure what would happen, and it might put your PSP in danger of bricking. Second, if you are using DevHook, you do not need UMD Emulator. In fact, I recommend getting rid of it, as DevHook has better ISO compatibility anyway. Now, to get any UMD ISO to work that requires a 2.xx (2.xx = 2.00, 2.01, 2.50, 2.60, 2.71, 2.80, 2.81) firmware, you must have any 2.xx firmware installed for DevHook. You can download a Windows application that will install 2.60 for DevHook onto your PSP HERE. After you install that, or any other 2.xx firmware, load up DevHook. For the firmware, select the 2.xx firmware you installed (2.60). For the UMD Select, choose your ISO (Brothers in Arms) which should be placed under X:\ISO (where X: is your PSP's drive letter). Then make sure the setting "2.xx -> 2.00" is on. That will make it so any UMD that requires a firmware that requires 2.xx will only require 2.00. Thus, Brothers in Arms will only require 2.00 instead of 2.81. Finally, hit Start to load up DevHook and load your ISO just like you would load a real UMD. One last word of advice, you may want to update your HEN-C to HEN-D.
  20. Ok, lets start out slow. First, what firmware does your PSP have? Also, is it a TA-082 motherboard PSP? If you do not know how to tell if you have a TA-082, please look at this picture.

  25. Nope. DevHook does not write to your PSP's flash, so there is no chance of bricking if you use it normally. The only time you really have to worry about bricking is when you are downgrading or installing a custom firmware or firmware mod.
