that video card isnt much better than what i have now, but i see how it would have been a good choice (plus that one supports DX9, and some other nice things mine right now doesnt) i went an extra 40 dollars and bought an open box Sapphire X800GTO supposedley you can "unlock" it to a full blown X850XTX so i can at least use it to somewhat of its potential now, and ill use it at first in my next PC for awhile untill i can afford some super badass card it should be at my doorstop friday

ahh alright, i was just making sure because i wanted to set my server on the DMZ, but i didnt want it to stop my other PCs from using bittorrent/etc (for some reason i was thinking DMZ would be like typing foward ports 0-65535 to one IP)

hey before i start playing in it though, does anyone know how to fix that thing where you cant see it over LAN? I remember this happening with the last CS server i set up, and i fixed it somehow but i dont remember how, it sucks because everyones pings will go nuts every time i join the server this way EDIT: NVM i fixed the LAN problem as for the RCON problem, i was using the HL way of logging in and not the HL2 way (where you have to enter your IP/port first), the Mani problem, i dunno, it seems like its loading, i just bind a key to "admin" after adding myself to teh admin list right? i just restarted the server after making sure my steamID was in right, but havent tested it yet

Its up! yay! Everything seems to be working fine besides 3 things 1. I cant see it over LAN (this may be my weird network setup though) so i have to connect to it through the web...annoying...and a waste of bandwidth 2. I dont think RCON is working, i dont really remember how to login though (i think im doing it right though, i got myself banned with too many failed attempts lol, its "rcon password insertpasshere" or "rcon insertpasshere" right?) 3. I dont think Mani Admin mod is working either But yeah, it would be cool if some peopel could jump on today and see how it runs while im at work, the IP address is 74.129.43.72 PM me for the RCON password and ill send it to you when i get home from work Also i couldnt get it to run from command line for some reason, just some steam-look-alike thing, anyone know whats the deal with that?

Good news, CS:S Server will be up and running tomorrow and sometime next week when i get my next paycheck ill have the 1GHz+extra RAM upgrade

Maybe im just having a brain fart, and getting confused, but if you have DMZ enabled does that mean port fowarding for those ports wouldnt work? You can only have 1 port fowarded to 1 PC on the network right?

Specs? Price? I might get it actually so should i just go with the first card for this PC though? I dunno about upgrading the processor, ill try, but again i can only go up to 2GHz :/ btw its a 250w PSU, so ill buy at least a 350w, probably a 400w for it, that should be fine right?

my first PC, an old 166MHz Pentium, 3GB HDD, either 32 or 64MB of RAM lol, we smashed it with sledgehammers then there was this crappy compaq presario i got from somewhere that wasnt even worth fixing, so we sped up really fast on the road and threw it out of the window

I'll go with nvidia or ATi, i dont really care for this PC i know its never going to be a super powerhouse or anything, id just like to upgrade it close to as much as possible so my brother has a PC to play on without screwing up mine

well i decided im willing to upgrade the PSU/CPU The thing is, its a socket 423 (im 99% sure, ill update when i get home), so the fastest i can really upgrade to is 2.0Ghz and for the PSU, a 450w should be good enough right? this isnt exactly a powerhouse pc lol

Okay so im trying to upgrade the video card on this PC, i want to get the fastest one possible, but without spending tons of money, and without the rest of teh system being a bottleneck Its got a P4 1.3GHz with 512MB RAM (I could put more ram in i guess, i have enough to make it 768MB, but it would be slower RAM, is it worth it? Right now im using a GeForce3, Somehow, its running everything at medium pretty well, but id like to get rid of all the FPS drops on WoW in heavily populated areas, and run CSS at at least 60FPS (its usually between 20 and 30 right now, jumps up to 40 every once in awhile) teh maximum i want to spend is probably around 200, but id like to keep it at around 100 if possible (im buying speakers soon too, and i dont really want to wait any longer for them heh)

i recentley saw The Protector it was totally flocked up i liked the fight scenes, but it was so random, The whole movie was about a guy who lost his elephants, and wanted them back, then hes running, then hes fighting, then more running, then hes randomly in austrailia, then theres some guys making a crack deal, then hes running, then hes fighting, then theres some random strip club place, then thers some random CG Animated fighting people that look mayan or something, then hes back in tailand, then hes on a bridge, then hes at some chicks house, etc etc There wasnt a single scene transition or explanation in the whole movie, it just kept flipping all over the place the fighting did kick tons of ass though

Bad News: I have no idea what im doing with the UT2k4 server Good News: I did get a CS:S Server up and running, and configured, and it performs way better than i thought it would (I am on LAN though) More Bad News: Due to my network configuration, im going to need some networking hardware before anyone outside my LAN can connect, and i dont get my paycheck till tuesday, but once i get it ill be ordering what i need BTW, Specs are... Pentium 3, 550MHz Slot Processor (i know i can probably get a Pentium 3 733MHz slot processor for free, but if they are cheap, whats the fastest i can probably buy? I dont know anything about slow processors, so is it basically any P3 will fit?) 128MB RAM, ill probably buy more of that too lol 10GB HDD (Meh dont need more than that anyway) Debian as the OS

okay for some stupid reason whenever i try to unzip the files i need with ARK it gives me the error] The utility zip is not in your PATH. Please install it or contact your system administrator. WTF?! anyone know how is should fix this? an alternate archival tool?

ive been into emulation since 5th or 6th grade, when really all that worked well (I think, not totally sure) was NES, SNES, and i think Genesis, damn was everyone jealous of my emulation powers (my school had a laptop program where all the students bought their own laptops) i remember old sites like Vimms Lair and everything, i dont think i was ever really a n00b because emulating SNES/NES/Genesis was pretty simple, open up the emu, open up the rom i wasnt that into P2P yet though, mostly just Kazaa, Audio Galaxy (lol anyone remember that?) Napster, and i think eMule, so i guess i was a n00b at finding roms, i would be searching all over the internet

does anyone have any suggestions on securing the server? It will be behind a hardware firewall (although im thinking of just enabling DMZ for it, instead of fowarding the needed ports) is there anything else i should do? If the server gets hacked, which i doubt will happen (who bothers to hack a gameserver?) ill have a backup, and there wont be anything important on it, its just gonna be a gameserver, but the other computers on my network do have some stuff i dont really want open to everyone, it shouldnt open any vulnerabilities to any of my other computers should it? Also, when i install Debian for this, Should i go with the server install, or the desktop install? I dont think it matters because this kinda thing usually has its own app, but im just making sure

looks like so far its ut2k4 then ill do some research on setting one up, hopefully the server can run under linux, and if not at least wont have to actually render anything, im pretty sure the graphics card will be a pos maybe it wont though, i dont know what im even getting, it was free so i didnt complain/ask much

So im going to be setting up a gameserver, and im thinking of either CS, CSS, HL2DM, or UT2k4 right now im leaning more towards CSS though but anyway, i wanted to know if anyone was interested in making it the "official" 1Emu server of that game? Im getting the actual computer either today or tomorrow, and ill be putting Debian on it, and it should be on 24/7 Ive had experience with CS/CSS/HLDM/HL2DM servers, so i could for sure do that, give people RCON and everything, but i have no idea what to do for UT2k4 right now i have no idea what the system specs are on the machine, but im guessing around the 1GHz range
