  1. Ok, thats good then. I only use CoinOps for arcades anyway so thats fine by me. I'll give it a go tonight. Edit: It looks great so far. I haven't put it on a vertical setup yet cuz I want to give that a more thorough going over, but it looks nice in my cab. Pixel Perfect options are well done and look really crisp. I think I'll end up using the scaled option since the blur on my monitor doesn't really bother me at all and actually looks more "arcade-y" to me. Next I'll put it on my vert monitor and hdtv. I have one request though: the start menu should have the option to boot to XBMC (or some other xbe that we can assign). That way I can have CoinOps be the dash and still have an easy way to get to XBMC or something else with ftp access.
  2. Hurray! I've got the update for R8! But it looks like I've only got up to R5 before, and the instructions for R8 say to overwrite files from R6! Could someone send me a link to R6, please? I made a cocktail arcade cab of sorts out of a glass top side table. I'll take some pictures of it once I've tried out R8.
  3. So, I've stayed away a bit and just popped in to see what the newest progress was and it looks like I've got a lot of reading to do! Rotation stuff sounds awesome and I'll be waiting for a link to R8 when that is done. I gave up on harassing you and then the features I want most start appearing. I think Cospefogo's help has a lot to do with that. So, thanks Cos!
  4. Hey, I got your pm but was going to post here anyway for public consumption. The ipac connects to a pc using the ps2 port, but theres an xbox adapter that can go in between the ipac and xbox. Check out ultimarc.com for more info http://www.ultimarc.com/xba.html . Then you've just got to read up on the ipac itself. There are lots of different versions, but for the xbox you need the older PS2/keyboard style: http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html Look around www.ultimarc.com for more info. Get the ipac and adapters from them its totally worth it (or get them off ebay and save on shipping). Then get your joysticks and buttons from www.groovygamegear.com if you're in the US. Also, best site EVER http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade.htm (besides 1emu of course). Good luck! Red
  5. I've done this for two xbox cabs. If you look at most standard coin mechanisms you can watch the quarter fall through them and at the bottom there should be a switch very similar to the switches you'll be using for buttons. Just wire these up like the control panel buttons to the Back button on a controller (or assign it on an ipac if you're using one, which I suggest) and you're good to go. You can even daisy chain the coin mec to another hidden Back button so you've got a credit button AND the coin slots working.
  6. I feel your pain. I used to keep an old computer up and running windows 98 and dos just so I could play older games like this. I called it my Dos Box. Emulation is great, but you could get a computer from the salvation army for $50 and it'd play some of these old games no problem! My favorites have always been Full Throttle and Sam & Max. I've kept a copy of both of them on every gadget I could get ScummVM running on.
  7. I thought there was a rip of Grim Fandango that played on XP/Vista. That was a GREAT game. From what I've read about Residual its an on again off again project that may or may not ever get finished. I'll check my files for that XP GF version...
  8. I personally have used usb mice with adapters and on the one box where I installed a usb port. I played through a ton of LucasArts games on the box and I wish there was an update with proper screen sizing and the newer supported games like Goblins 3. Hell even the GUI has been revamped. The original xbox has enough oomph under the hood to do almost anything ScummVM can throw at it. If the Wii can do it why not my Xbox?
  9. Its too bad theres no dev that wants to update ScummVM. This one really really needs an update! Lots of games have been added since the last port.
  10. I'm digging R5 too. Cheers to all involved. I'll leave out my obvious first request (if you know anything about me) and just add that I still like the idea of being able to "Quit to XBMC" option. That way I can make CoinOps the dash that shows up first when the box powers up, and then be able to switch over to XBMC for ftp and other emus and programs. I think most of us will have XBMC in e:\apps\xbmc but being able to specify what xbe to boot would be great too. Besides that R5 looks good. Fixed that movie\screenshot scrolling issue which was driving me crazy so thanks for that.
  11. Wow, I left the xbox alone for a bit and then I come back to read all of this? Seriously guys, there are only a couple of guys who working on arcade games for the xbox and either you'll like their work/methods or you won't. Seems to me DOA's English has never been very good (no offense, its obviously not your first language) and he likes to put up a fight. Whatever, let him do it. Sounds like if R5 gets a proper release WITH sourcecode attached and acknowledgments of the previous devs then no-ones got anything to complain about. If it doesn't get on xbins then hey. its their loss. It'll be other places and I'll make sure of it IF I get permission to. Jesus, its high on that soapbox! With that out of the way I gotta say I'm not too interested in console emulators inserted into CoinOps. I might put in a couple good multiplayer games like MarioKart or Eternal Champions but I think the other emus give a better "SNES" or "Genesis" feel. I like CoinOps and FBL for the arcade games and thats that. By the way, neither one of them are perfect yet for my needs but they do get better on every release. So keep up the good work and I'll keep watching. PS: run you're a star
  12. Check www.pricewatch.com and search for ide drives. Try to find something WD thats not refurbished and you should be good. I only say Western Digital because thats what I've had the best luck with. Pricewatch will find you the best price at whatever given moment.
  13. 500GB Western Digital in one, 320 GB WD in another and a couple stock ones to stream media around to different rooms. Western Digitals get high ranks for compatibility in the locking/unlocking department. I considered doing a 700+ GB drive at one point but its kinda not necessary if you stream videos from another shared drive in XBMC. That way you don't have to worry about renaming video files for the fatx format. I had a 500 GB refurbished seagate drive die on me and that was NOT fun. Learned a lesson there. I'd be interested to know what the full ResXtras are going to cost in GBs so I can plan on what the next harddrive I'll be getting will be.
  14. The nice thing about arcade roms is that theres been a standard naming convention for years. Final Burn and its variants all use mame roms so there is no renaming involved.
  15. Got it sorted. Thanks to all for the help. It all sounded familiar but I've never had to deal with so many roms at once. I've got too many previous installs of coinops to tell which save file I needed to edit so I put half the roms in the default folder and specified the other half in another folder in the advanced options. With the other videos I've converted almost all the games have a video to go with them and I have only come across a couple that have no screenshot. Question for DOA: Will the SNES games play on a rotated screen?
  16. 500GB harddrive means not having to worry about space Still thats useful information for the vertical cocktail I'm working on. I plan on just leaving the stock drive in there and streaming music and stuff from the network when its used as a jukebox.
  17. Oh Oh! I totally get it now. Theres the one default rom folder you can't change and then theres another extra folder you can specify. I was thinking we could set the paths ourselves to each folder. Thanks for setting me straight fu Edit: and thanks to you run088. I've learned alot today.
  18. +1 on that theoldone Haven't had a chance to try yet but it looks straight forward enough.
  19. Then I'm not sure which version I'm running cuz I only see one rom path available. Hasn't this changed from release to release? I'll double check when I get home.
  20. i agree, i already have snes n genesis emu on my xbox. it would save hdd space Saving space is a big deal. Most of us will have these other console sets somewhere on our harddrives already. I finally put together a full .084 romset plus all the updates from previous coinopses and that takes me to 4300 roms. I know thats kinda ridiculous. Gratuitous even. I'll be filtering out just enough clones to make it work with the current build's limit of one rom folder.
  21. I've got some new suggestions... well, maybe not new just things I think I could use now. The option for multiple rom paths and the option to filter clones on and off. As you can guess I've exceeded the fatx file limit and I've overwhelmed myself with games. Thats not necessarily a bad thing. DOA, when you add in the console games do they all have to go in the same folder as all the other roms or can we put them in their own folder so they're separated out. It'd be nice to have an Arcade folder, Genesis folder and SNES folder so they're easy to get to.
  22. Damn, take a look at how many views this thread has gotten. 2122 so far. 300 of that has got to be me alone but still, good number. So common people, go to the other thread and fricken' vote for some vertical goodness.
  23. Well, I voted. Looks like I'm the only one that wants vert stuff so far. I guess I'll just keep hounding you until I get what I want! I've been going back and forth between the different coinops and mame builds that support rotated screens and have found advantages and disadvantages for each. Heres a short breakdown: Mamedox 1.1 - Can rotate the screen any way you want. Horizontal games are stretched to the screen and play upside down. Changing the "aspect ratio" in the options has no effect. Its got a minimal GUI with no screenshots or videos, but the ingame menu (back + white) is more indepth with dip switches and is much more MAME-like. The start menu (menu that come up when pressing start from the romlist) is always set to the same standard horizontal monitor position no matter what. This is true of each xbox mame emu actually. Mameox128plus! - Can rotated the screen any way you want and have horizontal games play in the correct aspect ratio in letterbox format on the rotated screen. Unfortunately each horizontal game is upside down which means rotating the screen around each time you go from a vert game to a horizonal game. Its got a minimal GUI with no screenshots or videos, but the ingame menu (back + white) is more indepth with dip switches and is much more MAME-like. CoinOps Ignite R2 - Hidden menu can rotate the screen (both right and left clicks together). It took me some playing around with the settings and button mappings but all the buttons can be configured to work well with the rotated screen. Horizontal games actually play the right way around in a letterbox format but they look a little squished. Its definitely not the correct aspect ratio. The biggest downfall here, for me, is that the romlist cannot be rotated. Theres no rotated skin available. Also, the ignite series do not support videos only screenshots. CoinOps ReIgnite Showcase Vertical Build - A step in the right direction. Based on an early version of ReIgnite Showcase but with a vertical skin. Start menu is still sideways though like the others. Horizontal games are stretched to the screen and are upside down! Argh! If you were to put together a vertical only package this is the version to use. Menu looks nice and videos look good as well as screenshots. Final Burn Legends - Great emulator. Each game has to be setup to be rotated and the keys can be set to almost anything you like. This has to be on a per game basis. Theres no rotated skin or option to rotate the skin just yet, but maybe that will change since NES is still actively working on FBL. So, in conclusion to the longest post I've ever written, if DOA could make the next CoinOps act like Mameox128plus but have the horizontal games not play upside down I would be very happy. That would mean a nice GUI/frontend with videos, screenshots, music, lots of games to play and even some SNES thrown in. And the more I think about it the more I'd like to have an option to quit to XBMC. Especially if I can get that rotated XBMC skin...
  24. I'll send you the older vertical build I've got if you can send me that vertical XBMC skin or tell me how to get it. That would be a dream come true! I've often thought about making a jukebox with a vertical screen or just taking XBMC and using it as a frontend and launching vert arcade games with .cut files. Wow, you just totally blew my mind with possibilities... make two more posts and we'll talk more! Edit: What kind of cab is that? Looks like a candy cab but yellow with hard edges. And what is that gun doing there where the beer should go?
  25. Well, I think I've been using Ignite R2 this whole time since it seemed to do most of what I wanted except for the rotated skin. I had used the vert cab build that you made quickly for bulge2 for a little bit but somehow I screwed something up and didn't have any rom browser or menus except for the start menu (start menu = menu that pops up when you press start). I think that problem is all on me tho, it had worked before but some horizontal games would show upside down. I've currently gone back to MameOX 1.1 to give that a try since it was on my computer and I really like how the screen can just be rotated around 90 or 180 degrees. Thats great for the vert games that the emu supports but it also stretches all the horizontal games to fit the entire screen. Ignite would keep the aspect ratio kinda like letterboxing on a vertical screen. MameOX 1.1 also is missing all the bells and whistles like movies and even screenshots that the CoinOps frontend has. It also won't play DKII or any of the other updates you say youve done recently, obviously. I'll try to be on MSN late tonight if I'm of sound mind... no promises its Friday.
