i honestly think that at this point in time, it'd be stupid for any developer to make a game using directx10 only. it's a huge loss of possible revenue when yuo think about it.

about starcraft one... i never actually played it, wasn't into rts's at the time but i'm thinking of playing it, how does it hold up against current strat games like C&C Generals: Zero hour, or Warcraft TFT ? cause for example, i didn't like Red alert 2 when i played it, even though everyone swears by it. speaking of which, any other rts's around that are as fun as the above two, and will work on a VERY modest system (64 mb graphics card, 1.5 mhz processor, 512 ram)

i don't even understand what rawrthness meant in the first place.... regardless, there are copyright groups here, but they're focused on public areas, such as cinema's, universities, internet cafes, .....etc, if any of those places are caught using something pirated... they're screwed... BADLY. but private homes, they don't have the muscle or will to enforce it.

DragonKeeper, you do realize those pictures are probably enlarged from their original size right? (that's if it wasn't a concept art pic or something) and that if you enlarge a psp screen shot, it'll look just as pixelated right?

i agree with shiba. it used to be a single guy working in his bedroom would make a game, or a small group of people wanted to make something, it was a labor of love.... sure there was commercialism but not anything like the scale it's on now... i mean, i don't think there are that many people into the experience anyone, other than miyamoto, warren (deus ex), and that guy that made ico and shadow of the colossus.

hmm, when i was doing my research i wasn't really looking for python engines.... i know torque has python bindings, but it's for money.... alot of people swear by panda3d Blender Game Engine is decent. delta3d is decent looking. Try the Advanced Search out and specify exactly what you neeed. you'd hafta do more research though.... hope that helps.

dude, panda 3d uses python for scripting. regardless, check devmaster and find a good freeware engine.... it'll help you out ALOT.

one of my earliest memories of ff1 involved the following: i bought a wrong sword. would go out in battle. lose 3 of my team members go to town,revive them with all the money i made. rinse and repeat... it left a bad taste in my mouth, but not worse than DW1; went out into the world. met three slimes. got my ass kicked. game over. ........ first 5 mins of playing.

thing is, how the hell am i supposed to practice it? there are no bots or anything!

i find no real reason to change to vista.... maybe in a few years and after a new computer.

Engine is optional, we can use our school one or use free ones on the net. So, we need to code the game and graphics. then my suggestion. USE AN ENGINE is there a certain coding lanaguage you must use? It all has to be done in Python. The entire thing. then use a python based engine... try panda3d or go to devmaster.net and check the engines there. but trust me, DO NOT attempt to create your own engine, if the final product should be a functional game (not a functional engine)

installed the game. loaded game. quit game, loaded update patch. started game. got onto server spent 15 mins downloading maps and crap. server disconnected got onto another server spent another 15 mins loading crap. server refuses to let me in. got onto another server spent 15 mins loading crap. got "incorrect version" error. repeat a few times. got fed up and posted about it here.
