I see it on other sites as well, it's a neat idea but there are plenty of apps (FAS, Top Poster) still required on the board

I've never quite understood the usefulness of a shoutboxes on messageboards. Someone enlighten me, and make damn sure that it's a decent explanation (i.e. something other than "because everybody uses it and it's cool, lol").

Only thing I can think up off the top of my head.
Say we have a new member, who's afraid to post (because of the delay and lack of instant satisfaction one is used to receiving on the net), the shout box might enable that for him. Based on that impression he might decide to stay for a while or not.
O and it's cool, it's trendy, lol.

I didn't know what a shoutbox was, so I looked it up. Seems like an unnecessary addition that I wouldn’t use. FAS and top poster are more important like you said. Speaking of, where’s Gamecop? There’ll be no additions to the forum of any sort until he reappears.
