I was thinking about it the other day - if you think about the impact of crimes by their effect on people, spyware/spamming is akin to murder! Here is why - murder causes a large amount of distress to a small number of people, but at the same time spamming/spyware causes a small amount of distress to a HUGE number of people - meaning it causes the same if not more distress as murder.
