Hot Question 7

...This one is about the media...Why is it that Movies based on Video Games tend to suck, and Video Games based on Movies tend to suck as much, if not more? Whats the deal? Why do you think Video games and Movies just don't get along?

Probably because they try to hard to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, thereby ruining the appeal of the game for everybody (it'll be too easy for most gamers, too plain for violence-freaks, too violent for ultra-conservative people, etc... etc.... etc.....)

Because the not-so-complex plot of a *standard* video game does not translate into a good movie script and the hired actors have close to zero talent...and in most cases, writers tend to throw in some kind or morals or teachings thst look good on paper, but kills the movie.

And btw, Mortal Kombat movies rock.

Mortal Kombat!!! You've got to be joking!!!

Seriously, that movie really did suck. But the worst video game movie was the Super Mario Movie. Man, was that crap!!!!

Some movies have turned out to be great games, a prime example being goldeneye on N64.

Unfortunately though, Video games based on movies and vice versa do seem to suck. The reason is probably because people will by it, no matter what, as they recognise the characters and setting. This makes developers lazy, as no matter what they do, or how good the game really is, it's guaranteed to make money.

Because most video games don't have a good enough story to support a movie. Also, stuff in video games don't translate well to the big screen - characters which may look realistic and cool in a video game look crap and unrealistic on the silver screen, like the characters in Street Fighter: The Movie.

The first Mortal Kombat movie was awesome. The second one was garbage.

Movies don't translate well to games because they are either just garbage trying to advertise the movie and for sales (like Enter the Matrix, which was a gigantic commercial for Matrix: Reloaded), or because they stick to heavily to the plots/story/limits of the movie, and they have no freedom to move. The movie restricts them.

And the Tomb Raider movies are okay...but maybe that's just because they have Angelina Jolie in them.

Because both venues r restricted to eachother's constructs. A fresh videogame by itself is not restricted by what's already expected by something like a movie where actions n events r specifically set in it's cinematic execution n direction, n the same vice versa.

That n they suck because the best gamemakers don't really make movie-to-videogame ports, the best stuff comes from freedom of expression.

At least I think so.

The writing sucks in the movie version of games and vice-versa.

I thought video game movies were pretty good.

But movie video games suck because you know exactly what's going to happen, what you're going to have to do, etc.

And because they're mainly made for a little extra profit off of young children, instead of making a quality game.

Any of you guys remember Street Fighter: The Movie? I went to the theaters to see that crap and it was a waste. I mean it was cool at the time, but when you see it now, you ask yourself why you spent $3 to see it (yes that was the price back then).
