Gryph Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 GryphonKlaw : If that's the case your computer needs a serious tweaking.... I have a Pentium 3 = 650Mhz computer with a Geforce2MX and every 2D emulator (Including MAME) does not slow down. It only slows down with the dedicated 3D emulators such as Nebula Model 2 and Zinc. Perhaps your comp needs some extra RAM ?Hmm...I see. What tweaks do you recommend? I have 256 mb of DDR266. I need to get another stick. The games run fine in NeoRage with no slowdown, but it does in Nebula/Kawaks/MAME for some reason. I used to have 512 of SDRAM but I switched out my motherboard with my dad.
Gryph Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 I was just on Anandtech and saw this article on there. Console Emulators: Our Newest Benchmark Even though they only use ePSXe, it gives a taste about what the new processors and GPUs can accomplish. And they show Zelda: The Windwaker running at 4.5 fps max on these top notch systems.
-VIOLENCE- Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 (edited) "You could whore yourself out to 1000 fat chicks for $50 bucks a piece. Or 50 REALLY fat chicks for $10,000." - welcome to my world I used to do that part time, but my fiancée wasn't feelin my part time job so i put my title down for someone else anythin for a good videocard Edited March 6, 2004 by -VIOLENCE-
ForceX Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 It maybe king, but RAMBUS is still faster But look how much more it costs!!!!
Shibathedog Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 i would actually buy the card, because then you would be getting the best performance possible, and then when you DO get the processor, it would be a HUGE jump up
Wizard Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 But look how much more it costs!!!!Notice how the P4 these days suck? Its because the P4 was originally made for RAMBUS! Thats why it owns I dont know where you're at, but RDRAM around here is cheap compared to DDR. $217 RDRAM 512 vs $325 DDR 512 Expensive here
taratata Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 Concerning slowdowns on emulators: check the emulator's thread priority. I used to have big slowdowns in MAME and Nebula (Duron at 800 MHz), now both run smooth as silk. In MAME: Menu Options -> Interface Options -> Emulation -> High thread priority (check it). In Nebula: Menu Emulation -> Options -> System -> Nebula Process Priority (I set it at 10, it works fine). Of course this will only work if your system is powerful enough to emulate, but the OS brings it down. It won't do anything good to a 486 at 25 MHz
random guy Posted March 7, 2004 Author Posted March 7, 2004 Well, I've never even HEARD of RDRAM! I may get the card so when my pc is upgraded it wil have a good card, but probably I'll save my pennies for a full upgrade. (it'll take a while!) Concerning that emulator benchmarking article, it was rather interesting, but i hardly think it was a fair test, considering A; they only used ePSXe, B; the graphics plugin was written by a dude with a Raedon 9700, c; they used a certain setting on the plugins for every test....all of us real emulation freaks know that every *advanced* emulator's settings will be tweaked differently for different people with different hardware...hell, I have to have different settings for different GAMES!
Wizard Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 RD vs DDR :] http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1096&page=1
StriderVM Posted March 7, 2004 Posted March 7, 2004 Well, it depends on the card and manufacturer. Since you have a Athlon (Not XP right) processor, go to this website http://www.powertweak.com and download the program and the crack somewhere...... For your Radeon 9700... Try searching tweaks and stuff for your video card at www.tweak3d.com. Even though it's primarily Nvidia stuff you can get there, I remember some ATI Radeon tweaks there.

I'll check that stuff out. The thread priority is making no difference...I guess I'll just get some more RAM. Edited March 7, 2004 by GryphonKlaw
