Alpha
I remember reading that uTorrent was purchased by some company that helps fund the RIAA or some mumbo jumbo. I don't remember exactly, but I do know that many are still purposely running an older version before they were bought. So, this probably wouldn't make it the most secure Torrent client. Can anybody suggest me some good ones?
Gryph
I did not know about that utorrent thing. How long ago was this? I've been using utorrent for years.
Inky
yeah I use utorrent + peer guardian and 99% of my downloads are on private servers.
Agozer
How paranoid can you get? Using uTorrent is a no-brainer, regardless of version and no, it's wasn't bought by some company who helps fund the MAFIAA. Plus, many torrent sites block old versions of uTorrent anyway. For the record, uTorrent was "bought" by BitTorrent, Inc.

But it seems like people are just not reading the original news story correctly. So I guess you guys are right...
Robert
I'm still using an old version of utorrent, not because of who bought who, but the new versions seem to be a bit buggy. And no site has ever banned my client. Then again, I don't download much.
Shibathedog
uTorrent is alright, right now I'm using Deluge which is finicky about some things but I like it better than uTorrent because it has a lot of the advanced stuff from Azureus/Vuze in it. (Open source too) Speaking of which every time I try a new torrent client I always end up back on Azureus/Vuze (I turn off that Vuze crap though) People who whine about its resource usage must have 15 year old PCs. Ive been thinking about going back. Too lazy though because I don't use BT nearly as much as I used to.
Agozer
I use BT daily, so uTorrent is an obvious choice for me. The reason I don't use Azureus is that I tend to shy away from any application written in Java. My computer isn't exactly 15 years old (15 years is a huge exaggeration in itself), but I still think that Java programs can be resource hogs. Then again, Java has come a long way since I first touched Azureus, and whatever animosity I still have is misplaced, who knows.
Weirdy
windows: utorrent*nix: rtorrent Just remember to force encryption on utorrent and RC4 on rtorrent. I remember reading that uTorrent was purchased by some company that helps fund the RIAA or some mumbo jumbo. only tin-foil hats believe the nonsense about anything suspicious regarding that
Shibathedog
Well Azureus uses 15-30MB of RAM, (last time I checked like last year) and that's with a bunch of extras enabled+around 20 torrents going. 15 years ago is an exaggeration but its been a long ass time since 15-30MB meant shit. Computers come standard now with 3-6GB of RAM. I used to run it on a computer with 1GB of RAM just fine.
Agozer
And I ran it on a computer with 512MB of RAM. Well anyway, uTorrent uses 3-5 MB of RAM with the three jobs I keep there, so it's just fine and dandy.
