olaf Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 I'm thinking about getting an Xbox solely to soft-mod it and enjoy some emulator action. Is there anyone that can help me obtain some emulators when the time comes? Or recommend anything else I should download/mod for my Xbox? Thanks ahead of time.
Devia Eleven Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Please talk to me about it. You should go ahead and soft-mod the Xbox and use an Unleash X dashboard. Then download the latest version of XBMC and use that to play music, movies, watch online videos, play downloadable games, download movie trailers, etc. About the emulators, the only way you can get them is if you use Xbins, and if you need help with understanding what the hell that is, ask me.
olaf Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 All of that is exactly what I plan on. Are there any certain hard drives I should look for to upgrade the hard drive and is that a complicated process? Also, what about physical mods like the little screen people add to the front?
Devia Eleven Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Little screen people add to the front? Could you be more specific? Do you mean the boot screen? As for the Hard drives, upgrading is not a difficult process if you are familiar with opening up computers or game consoles, and if you know what you are doing. I upgraded a regular 8GB to a 80GB using Xboxhdm, it was a relatively simple process. Hard drives also go for cheap these days, I wouldn't be surprised if you found a 250 GB on newegg for a cheap price.
olaf Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 But, I guess that's a pretty unique mod or something. What's "Xboxhdm"?
Devia Eleven Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 That is something that I personally do not find necessary. That is obviously some advanced form of a case mod. I have no idea whatsoever of what it is, or what it could be. Xboxhdm, is a application that allows you to format a HDD, and install a basic factory duplicate of a Xbox HDD. Meaning, you will be able to take a HDD and make it the same as a HDD that comes with a regular Xbox, but the capacity will be higher.
Devia Eleven Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 I don't know anything about reverting back, that's probably something that you should have someone else answer.
olaf Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 What're the best emulators and stuff? Or do you not do that?
Devia Eleven Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 These are the best emulators. Arcade - MAMEoX128 Plus! or BenderMameOX HSFII Edition Atari Lynx - Mednafenx-lynx CPS3 Arcade - CPX3 Neogeo CD - NeoCD-SDLx Unleashed Neogeo/CPS1/CPS2 - Fbaxxx or FBAXXX Pro Nintendo 64 - Surreal 64 XXX Beta 5 Nintendo Game Boy Advance - XBoyAdvance Nintendo NES - Mednafenx-nes Sega Genesis/32X/CD - NeoGenesis Sony Playstation - PCSXBox Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Zsnexbox Turbo Grafx 16/PC Engine/Super Grafx/CD/SCD - Mednafenx-pce
Devia Eleven Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 The only emulators that you should be worried about running at full speed or not are the N64 andPSX emulators. The N64 emulator plays a large amount of N64 games well. You might get full FPS speed, but there will be some graphical glitches or sound errors. There are some games that run flawless, but that's where the customization comes in for each game. Some games run very slow, or will not work at all at times. The PSX emulator can run the majority of all PSX games, but strictly depending on their region, some won't work as. There is a thread at Xbox-Scene, that contains a list of all of the games for the PSX, and if they work or not on the emulator. So most games can work to your preference of performance if you adjust the settings correctly.
fumanchu Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 I don't know anything about reverting back, that's probably something that you should have someone else answer.ive got a chipped xbox myself.but with some softmods isnt there something you can do like pressing the eject button to switch off the softmod and then you can use live then you press on and eject at the same time and that swiches the softmod back on.i know youcan do this with chipped xboxs, but im sure i read somewhere that this works with one of the softmod installs.just not sure which one, maybe movento will know better as ive never actually worked with a softmod install myself. edit/this method isnt a 100% foolproof way to play on live there is still a chance you will get caught.i suppose it just comes down to luck isuppose.
Inky Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 there is always xlink kai for playing online. (games with LAN support) its integrated in xbmc. and I would just bypass unleash-x all together and just use xbmc as the main dash as well. if you look around on torrent sites there is a little bundle of software to get you into xbins painlessly, it automates all the steps.
