Wizard Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 So what 360 should I buy that would be the least at risk of causing these hemoRRODs? Any Pro or Arcade that has a HDMI port. It will say so on the box.If I recall, all 360s after a certain date started sporting the HDMI port, it's all a matter of looking at the box. Seriously, look at the box.

But yeah, I mean, is it really worth it compared to PS3? It just feels like such a cheapass milkage that you have to pay for the online service, and for PS3 you don't. Plus with PS3 I get a blu-ray drive. On the other hand, no backwards compatibility with PS2 or PS1, so that's a gigantic disadvantage in my book. Is 360 backwards compatible? And which of them are piratable?
Agozer Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 IIRC, PS3 still plays PS1 games, just not PS2.
fumanchu Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 So what 360 should I buy that would be the least at risk of causing these hemoRRODs?get a 360 with the new falcon board you will know if the 360 you buy has a falcon as underneath the box there should be a small sticker saying 175w(something like that)on the output label.a lot of people have said in the xbox scene forum that the heat issue is a lot less than before and that they feel more confident with this new board.

On the other hand, no backwards compatibility with PS2 or PS1, so that's a gigantic disadvantage in my book. Is 360 backwards compatible? And which of them are piratable? Absolutely. It is still roughly half the price of the PS3 for a system which has more, and for now, better games. The online thing isn't a problem- PS3's online offering is a sham compared to Live. The Blu-ray drive is also not that big a deal- its a 1x drive with the outdated BD spec- loading for most games is a biatch on the PS3. Finally yeh any 360 with a HDD is backwards compatible. All of them are piratable- you just need to dismantle the unit and do some firmware flashing.
Agozer Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 I've been hearing (and reading) the exact opposite, that the Blu-Ray drive in the PS3 is definitely the one that's not going to be out-of-spec (or whatever you call it), but the other Blu-Ray players will. I'm really not versed enough in this tech stuff to actually care about HD movies and all that, or what is going be "out-of spec" and what's going to win or whatever, so I'll just stop now.
BlackKnight Posted January 21, 2008 Author Posted January 21, 2008 That maybe the case, seeing as the PS3 has upgradeable firmware itself, but as of right now it is out of date. And either way it still loads games like ass compared to the 360, ProStreet being the most painful game I've seen load on the machine, as compared to the 360 version.

fumanchu Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 my brother has a ps3 and any time i even say that some of the ps3 games are just ports of the 360,he just starts moaning and complaining saying there is a big difference between the 2 machines, you know what i mean the ps3 is the best better graphics......blah...blahin terms of specs what is the main difference between the 2 machines and do you think that in a year or two we will see the ps3 with the better graphics, seeing as the developers are still getting used to the ps3 hardware?

Great question indeed, maybe you should open up a new topic for this?I have been researching all sorts of opinions all over the internet.
Wizard Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 It's pretty simple. They both do graphical rendering differently. That's pretty much it.

Wizard Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 It's pretty simple. They both do graphical rendering differently. That's pretty much it.so in terms of power under the hood what are we saying not much difference or what?To the core, their both basically the same type of chip, a PowerPC IBM chip. Both are set use a different set of instructions to accomplish what needs to be done, both aren't as close to a normal PC processor (unless it's an Apple, to which a 360 would be as close too it's G4 I believe (not sure on it, could be Pre-Intel G5s)). The 360's processor simply just allows the processing of it's instructions to be straight forward and messy (not in the bad way of being just bad coding, but rather, it can be all over the place and still be read by it's 3 cores) compared to Cell (to which it has separate instructions per core for different things, which most developers don't like. One core for sound, the other for handling AI instructions, another for paths etc etc). It is said that it's more difficult to develop for the PS3 because of the way Cell architecture (each core serving a different purpose). In theory, if one would take the full poweress of Cell, it would be a hell of a processor. Not supercomputer level, but pretty damn decent. Remember the PS3 only has a selection of cores available while 3 are locked.
