Gryph Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Heath Ledger hasn't been in too many movies yet. I'm pretty happy with the footage in the trailer and his voice.
Inky Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I've never seen the gay cowboy movie so I am unfamiliar with Ledger's work. sooo heres hoping. I dunno, the more I think about it the more I think David Patrick Kelly would rock as the Joker.
Skythe Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 The supposed official canon story for the Joker's origin is that he was a rundown comedian tat ended up getting tied into crime and then the Joker was born. I believe this movie is using that.
MissMandyKitten Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 The Joker needs to be a sophisticated madman. Whether a thug on the streets or a big crime boss, he has never been this druggo-looking deadbeat. I always thought Ledger was a bad choice but that the art design would pick up the slack... guess not. Actually... I like him! He fits with the new batman theme they are instilling in the movies. Obviously they are following batman begins with a more dark and serious feel rather then a cartoonist adaptation. He looks like a "real" criminal. All trashed and wasted and whatnot. Completely insane! I'm shocked thats heath ledger! I actually was wondering who it was... well kudos for him. This is a far far away shot from his usual pretty boy roles!
Salorskin Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/15...219/story.jhtml Looks like Jeph Loeb has my back
Skythe Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/15...219/story.jhtml Looks like Jeph Loeb has my back MTV? Seriously, the only thing they know is how to blow smoke up someone's ass. And they can't even do that very well.
Explosive Misanthropy Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Hah, you guys are hussing and fussing about Heath Ledger and what not....at least they didn't pick someone like, oh, I don't know, Owen Wilson? That man cannot play a different part..... anyway....I like the new Joker, I don't think he looks a whole lot like any of Ledger's other characters, and the whole darkness of the movie and of the characters fits in well, I think. I also like Christan Bale as a Batman. But as for the Joker, I think it's a good attempt at changing your everyday Batman movie, from how it all used to be. You gotta change with the Era. I mean if we still had the same Batman from the original days....you know that he'd be saying? Not "oh hell," about something, or, "oh sh*t." It would be something like, "oh cripes!" or "Oh Geeze!" you know, and there would be huge bubbles with the words "ZAP!" or "BANG!" every time someone got hit with a punch or a kick. Like I said, you gotta change with the times..... and times are a changin.... Also,This is Gotham City....It isn't supposed to be bright, cheery, or colorful. Granted, The Joker is supposed to be a clown or whatever, and they're cheery and crap, but again, this is Gotham....

It was quick and dirty, I'll admit that though...
alucas Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 From the few episodes of the animated series I've seen, I think Mark Hamil had the best voice for the joker. And the only reason why they probably hired Heath Ledger for the role is so it attracts a younger audience and it assures them that people are going to pay to see the movie. A lot of women have a movie crush on Ledger, so it makes sense. Anyway, Ledger seems to look good so far as joker, but he acts too much like a serial killer than a laughing crazy maniac. And I have to agree that Nicholson can not be replaced. He and his freakish eyebrows worked well in the mix and I think he was the perfect depiction of joker. edit: Rumor has it that Jack Nicholson was very upset when he found out Ledger was going to play the role of the joker. In fact, he was surprised (believe it or not) that the studio didn't ask him to play the role again. i know this was an old post...but i had to respond to it...i dont know where the rumor came from, but your source was full of crap...nicholson supported heath all the way, early on in the filming before heaths death, he met up with nicholson to see what he thought of heath's portrayal of the role...and Nicholson loved it and seeing the movie, I think Ledger did brilliantly. Im not sure if I can positively say he topped Nicholson's performance, but they're neck and neck for the top... and the only reason you cant say who is better is because they both played Jokers character in different times. Ledger played the psychotic murderer part flawlessly i do believe, and he still had jokers sarcasm and wit almost nailed and this is the kind of joker who is uncensored and most realistic to the idea of what he is...but Nicholson played brilliantly for his time period when it was filmed, I mean lets face it, noone would have dared act as psychotic back then as Ledger did in this movie. p.s. Not sure if any of you know this, but Jack Nicholson also required prescription sleeping pills after doing this roll...Heath's act of the character just had a heavier toll
