tssf Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 What are you doing, InfernoDS? DPG streaming? Why use MP3? Wouldn't MP2 be a lot less taxing on the CPU to decode? Or hell, GSM would be fine as well. The PC-side server should be doing most of the hard work. I imagine it takes longer to encode than to decode, or am I wrong? o.o;
infernoDS Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 Ah well, we'll see what comes to this. Mp3 was quite easy for me as even fragmented pieces of a mp3 file work nice, and I haven't really thought about other formats (I mean, I don't suppose mp4 (good audio quality + small size) (aac etc.) has been ported yet has it?).We'll see... We'll see...
fischju Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 how much ram would something like this use......i bet if you got the right format fiels could be sent faster than they are played and the rest can be buffered
davos1 Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I think its better to load the whole song into the RAM. It would be faster but there will be like a 3MB limit (Unless there sent in like 2MB fragments). Or the song could be transfered into the GBAMP, SC or M3 CF.
davos1 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 But I think its better to send it in fragments and store it in the GBAMP, SC or M3 after it compleatly finishes (The song will be playing while it is being downloaded into the RAM and then transfered into the GBAMP,SC or M3).
Vegetable Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Wow, had no idea SG had such a mean streak in him.
tssf Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 But I think its better to send it in fragments and store it in the GBAMP, SC or M3 after it compleatly finishes (The song will be playing while it is being downloaded into the RAM and then transfered into the GBAMP,SC or M3).<{POST_SNAPBACK}> What happens when the GBAMP's CF runs out of file space?
infernoDS Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 I think he means using the GBAMP as a swap space. I am yet to see mp3 songs of 256mb+ (apart from whole concerts of course).
GrupstraNDS Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 Even whole concerts don't quite rech that, at least, none of the audio concerts I have do. video, yeah, butnot MP3. Unless your listening to a huge compilation of them. o_O
infernoDS Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 Ah well, I was just illustrating my point : I don't think the GBAMP will be able to run out of free space when used as a swap disk .
