Wizard Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Acclaim Website The Acclaim we grew up with is dead--we've known this for months, but the reforged company has a new website and is seeking beta testers for its new title Bots, a free MMOG that hopes to stay afloat using in-game advertising and micro-transactions. The only other game mentioned on their rather simple website is 9Dragons, but little is shown of the game besides some pretty pictures and a short CG movie. As GameIndustry notes, new owners Howard Marks and Ken Chan hope to "build a community that leverages the familiarity with and loyalty to the Acclaim brand." Loyalty to Acclaim, eh? Call us cynical, but Turok this is not.-Joystiq
Agozer Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 9Dragons huh? Looks promising. Well, at leastthe scarce artwork does.
ken_cinder Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Server not found Firefox can't find the server at www.acclaim.com. Wow bankrupt already?
Tynvar Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Server not found Firefox can't find the server at www.acclaim.com. Wow bankrupt already?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's strange, I can get there fine. I clicked the link above.
ken_cinder Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Worked about 15 minutes after I posted that. Talk about suckage for games though, Bots looks lame, real lame.
Tynvar Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Well if you remember Acclaims old days it was never a heavy contender. Always making those games on movie licenses that stunk.
Samor Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 well, with infogrames going Atari they at least tried to look like the old company. This is just something entirely different with the same name....

Samor Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 hm.. but at that time Atari was heavily Hasbrodified, wasn't it?
Wizard Posted March 3, 2006 Author Posted March 3, 2006 hm.. but at that time Atari was heavily Hasbrodified, wasn't it?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Yes, yes they were.
ken_cinder Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Acclaim was a very big contender from the N64 back, I don't know how old you are..... Turok pwnz you. And the Quarterback Club series kicks Madden's @$$ all over the place.
Wizard Posted March 3, 2006 Author Posted March 3, 2006 It was all about Turok. God damn, I wish the last 2 (the last 2 64 games) came out on PC.
Shibathedog Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Personally i think that Acclaim started to suck around the N64-PSX Generation, they came out with a few good games like turok, and after that every single game they ever realeased pretty much sucked hard. They where really good in the SNES-Genesis generation and before that though. So i didnt really care when they died at first.
