Phantom Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 How are things going? There has been no news for several days... Did you solve that bit bug?
sgstair Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Things are well, going. The bit bug is done with, but lwIP continues to cause no end to pain. My next news post will probably be about dumping lwIP, but not before I have time to work on it again (need another day or maybe 2 to finish a different project)So, progress is being made... will take just a bit longer yet. -Stephen
JaJa Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Lo and behold. He dumped IwIP.Is this other project the GBAdev 2004mbit compo menu/loader?
jb55 Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Good luck writing your own tcp stack, definatly not an easy thing to do
sgstair Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 Jaja: good gues Yeah, I'm working on finishing up that menu before I do more wifi (and it will be worth it, beleive me.) -Stephen
sandymac Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 @sgstair If you are able to send raw 802.11 traffic but are having problems with the TCP/IP why not release what you have on sending raw 802.11 traffic. You said you intend to use a BSD like license for the final release, releasing part of it now under a BSD licenses doesn't ultimately change anything except help spread knowledge faster.
NoComply Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 Ya, but then he wouldn't get the bounty. He is putting a lot of hard work into this and ya, ultimately it's for the community, but it's nice to get rewarded for hard work. Pretty much everyone else already gave up on it. So if it weren't for sgstair, there wouldn't be anything close to what he is gonna release for a while. So if it takes him a bit longer cause he is doing it by himself, no big deal, without him the wait would be longer.
JaJa Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 (edited) He 'd get half the bounty. Because he's figured the registers. However someone who has experience with TCP/IP stacks could possibly write one faster and steal some of his money. Sgstair deserves every cent, pence or whatever the currency is. Software nearly always works better when done entirely by one team or person. Edited November 2, 2005 by JaJa
Jercos Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 I dont care if it takes another month or two cause i know its gonna be worth the wait!
alexa999 Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 I hope its before november so it comes out before the big N's wifi. If hes not done by then, the nintendo wifi will be hacked to do the same things.
JaJa Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Or not.Homebrew couldn't use a "hacked" nintendo wifi connection, because they wouldn't know what code to put in.
NoComply Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Is there a possibility that someone could look at some of the files in the mario kart rom? Not sure if it is encrypted or not.
JaJa Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 (edited) Yes of course, why didn't anyone else think of that?Because we need source to integrate into homebrew, not an arm binary. We also need headers, and the TCP/IP stack. But if anyone is good enough to look at the binaries for mario kart and turn them into source that can be used by anyone then by all means, do it Edited November 2, 2005 by JaJa
NoComply Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 I sense a bit of sarcasm in your reply. I was just wondering, I mean that guy hacked the ipod by listening to the click of the hard drive so I just thought that maybe someone would be able to get something out of Mario Kart be it from the rom or capturing packets to see what it's doing.
bafio Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 (edited) Yes of course, why didn't anyone else think of that? Because we need source to integrate into homebrew, not an arm binary. We also need headers, and the TCI/IP stack. But if anyone is good enough to look at the binaries for mario kart and turn them into source that can be used by anyone then by all means, do it Of course we need source, but ever heard of reverse engineering? It's easier if you actually have something that uses the features you want to analyze. Having a wireless online game will not be the solution, but will probably make it much easier for everybody to see how to set up the wireless, which register to use, etc. by analysing the binary itself! The work sgstair is doing is I think much harder. Otherwise why he is not releasing any binary prerelease if they are useless for the "competition"? I am quite confident a game dump will be useful to him and possibly others... Edited October 19, 2005 by bafio
