Okay so my PS2(s) broke, but im getting a new one soon, my DVD player broke, but i think im finally able to replace that.

Now my Xbox is being sweet....

First thing that happened is while playing Goldeneye: Rouge Agent (I had to at least try it out okay?) The disc drive started making really loud and weird noises while loading, but the game didnt freeze or anything, it was fine. Second thing that happened is I turned off my xbox with the disc tray open, and normally my Xbox closes it for me. This time it stayed open....WTF? so i turned it on again and it was blinking like it was loading a disc, i hit close and it popped and went in and now it works normally again.

BTW i have the Samsung drive.

Is it just me or do console's optical drives blow ass? Are these things i should worry about? Why are my old systems like Sega Saturn outlasting PS2s!!?!??! and maybe and Xbox!??!?!

Thankfully you can get a replacement xbox drive cheap, and its easy to install.....I wouldnt worry too much about it.

I think it is only the mechanism, it makes the xbox think your drive is close while it is open, simply close it by hand (be careful not to break the mechanism though :thumbsup1: ).

well it hasnt done anything weird since those two times, and ive been playing it alot recently.

Id like to not void my warrenty just yet (or is it over?) but im going to mod it eventually so meh.

normally one year warranty, by the way, you can go with softmod :thumbsup1:.

yep softmods are nice now. I softmodded my sisters new xbox cuz she didn't want to void the warrenty. no problems with it in 3 or 4 months.

as for the xboxs durability, I dunno. I hear about alot of problems. but I've had my xbox for 3 years with no problems at all. I even have the "crappy" thompson drive.

i think twice (Might have only been once, i dont remember clearly) i had to push it closed now...grrrr

Whats the most up to date site that has softmodding stuff? I really only want to copy one game to it so i guess the HDD i have now is fine, and DivX playback and stuff would be nice because i have ALOT of burned DivX movies.

yep good luck getting a samsung drive because I heard that buying a samsung drive is expensive compared to other brands :devilboy:

I went with NDURE instead of UXE (Yes it's UXE now), I couldn't understand how to make a go of softmodding at first and it was easier to work with.

Reason why I was a bit more confused than most would be, I was hot swapping my hard drive to my PC, no mem card crap......wtf is the point in owning a memory card when the Xbox has a hard drive? And you need a specific game and a way to get the hacked save onto the memory card........what a pain in the ass.

Now I'm not so sure if I am going to install my X3 again when the pinheader/rebuild PCB gets here. I don't do Xbox Live, and ALL my games work perfectly, whereas I had a couple issues with some games with my X3 installed.

James Bond - Everything Or Nothing would lock up at the 2nd level (Where you start off driving) as soon as you went over the edge of some part. Doesn't do it softmodded......

There were some general issues of occasional dirty disc errors and such with other games that don't happen softmodded either.

It is however a different Xbox now, but it's the EXACT same model down to the drives in it. A 1.6 with a Philips DVD drive if I remember right.......theres also been several X3 bios updates since I last had it in too, who knows, I'll get around to re-installing the X3 at some point.

well... that has nothing to do with the x3 bios

and to contribute to the topic. i would also be very pissed when my xbox dies. ive got mine now for 3 years and never had a problem till now. well i also be carefull with it. i always ftp and just use my dvd rom for ripping my games to my hdd.
