I tried desperately to like SFIII, and just couldn't bring myself to it. The gameplay was solid, but I've seen better character designs in ten dollar budget titles. The graphics were nice, the art wasn't technically bad, except that I didn't like the way muscle wasn't actually attached to bone in any way, but the character designs.. ugh..

In all fairness, Makoto, Sean, and Ibuki weren't too bad.. I'll even let Alex slide. They were all rather generic, I'll let that slide too. But Q? Oro? A naked guy in a diaper? WTF? Count me out. I'll stick to CVS2, the gameplay is just as good and the characters are much nicer to look at.

Hey Daeval, with the KOF2002 for PS2, is it harder to do QCF standing on the left side of the screen? I remember getting KOF2002 jap version and it really ticked me off that the controls weren't as responsive. I had some difficulty pulling off the QCF in this game where as in say SVC is was a easy.

As for the review, I would partially agree with you. The score I'd give it is a 7.5.

Reason being is that KOF2002 is so damn old, I had it for the dreamcast like millienias ago, and the PS2 version didn't really add anything new in it that would garner another purchase.

But at least this is a much better game than that god awful Capcom Evolution crap.

Just a random true statement.

I had no problems with controls whatsoever. In fact, in both of these games, I was able to pull of HCB, F+Button moves as easily as QCF moves, where previously I was unable to do them reliably at all (In, say, CVS2).

Just because it's old, or because you own it, doesn't mean it's any less fun than something else that was released recently. If YOU personally have played it to death, that's fine, but that's not something that should be reflected in a review. I've played Mario Brothers 3 a million and a half times, and probably wouldn't spend much time with it if you put it in front of me now, but that doesn't mean it's any less a good game than it was when I picked it up.

In terms of age, the only real thing to complain about are the graphics and the sound, but neither of those is behind on these titles. The graphics have even been overhauled to look good on a modern system. Finally, the PS2 DID add something new - an entirely new freaking game - KOF2K3.

I wish SNK fanboys would like, come out more. To show it's actually existant. Friking closet ones suck. It's people like Daeval and Axl that are cool (to a lesser extent Axl is more of a unstable fanboy compared to Deaval).

To that I give you props for actually sticking up for the company while deserters like me stare in awe!

Sheit I don't know if I was being sarcastic or not now.

I don't mean to sound like a rabid fanboy, although I'm sure that's the case. It's just that, in two or three years, I'd still like for there to be something other than EA games on the shelves. ;)

I'd stand up for any game I thought was decent if I felt people were making non-applicable arguments against it. I totally agree, for example, that the urge to buy this will be less if you already own 2K2 on DC, but to say there is nothing new is just not correct and is misleading. It seems particularly like fanboy-ism here becuase it happens to be SNK I'm supporting, but if someone hadn't already put their quarter down for Dawn of War I'd give you that chance too. :)

I highly doubt that fanboys of the neogeo series would find Kof2k2/2k3 anything new. I being one of them, had these games for ages and played them to death, and my review is my opinion, not general.

NeoGeo dudes have stuck to there oldskool ways while that's good and all, I'm saddened that they couldn't have made a stronger effort to gain home console fans love with maybe newer characters or fighting mechanics.

In respect, Capcom lovers have dominated the market and I truely prefer SNK over their games but I stand alone without too much people who agree with me.

Take for instance SVC Chaos, I thought it was an exceptional fighting game that could've been over the top with the roll or air guard feature. However the Japanese version was a direct port not taking advantage of any of the ps2 capabilities.

It's been out and played to death by me and I hear it's coming to North America soon...will they at least spruce up the character select screen. Newer intro maybe? Endings achievable without perfect wins through arcade mode? Newer characters? New music? Roll/Air Guard?

Nope they just give you the same stuff that you've been playing for ages.

That's why I'm so hard on SNK, no wonder they are getting pwned by Capcom.

Finally picked this up yesterday. I like the new 3d backgrounds very much.

And not to anyone here, but when capcom mixed 2d and 3d its fine but when snk does it, its a big problem? i dont get it.

Because they suck at 3D rendering (holy sheit, have YOU SEEN KOF REBOUT?) It's funny. They can do good 3D and crap 3D it feels like they gave a bunch of people whose first time with a 3D rendering proggy and told them to make pretty sceneary.

Yea, i have seen ReBout and it does look pretty bad. But i think 2003 did a much better job with the backgrounds and it gave the game a slightly more polished feel, just my opinion.

It doesnt look as good as say capcom vs snk 2, but i think it doesnt look nowhere as bad a speople make it out to be. Rebout being an exception.

Maxium Impact owned. Too bad they took out the Jap VO's from the US version.

For those of us that can't afford (won't spend THAT much on) the Neo Geo versions this is great.

Plus I don't think the DC version of KOF2k2 was in english.

I have the roms but I rarely play them. Never even played 2k3 untill this version came out. I just made sure it worked in case I ever needed to rip some sprites or sounds from it. I never was a big emulator fan though in regards to playing games.

Not to mention the fact I am a pretty hardcore 2d fighting game fan. I would obviously give these games an A.

I tend to play capcom titles more but SNK games are a great alternative to capcom's lazyness. And these are 2 of my favorite KOFs.

And yes I hope you 2d fighter fans buy the game. Every little bit could help push SNK into more fighter titles. Without Capcom and with Sammy's long gaps between fighters SNK is all that is left. Import fans can still look forward to Type Moon for the Melty Blood series on occasion too at least.

I always welcome new characters and features. But in the end I am just glad they released the game so more people can play it.

Now if they would start releasing some Samurai Showdown compillations. I never did get around to ordering the import version on Sega Saturn and would love to play SSVsp. Since I'm not motivated to actually search the 10 minutes for the rom and refuse to use my Mame version =P
