Gryph Posted January 14, 2005 Posted January 14, 2005 You can play Doom III on it but not other games. Doom III uses OpenGL so it's easy to get it work on Linux. But I wish more games (all games actually) were compatible with Linux then I'd pretty much dump Windows except for emulation.
Elazul Yagami Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 I'd pretty much dump Windows except for emulation.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> linux has god damn good emulation.
Gryph Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 Is gngeo any good? The emulator I use most is Kawaks.
Agozer Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 Is gngeo any good? The emulator I use most is Kawaks.gngeo is very good, judging by my experiences runnig it on a friend's Linux machine. Even so, I still have not got the guts to go out and try any variants of Linux on my own. Maybe someday, but I'm not switching over anytime soon.
alexis Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 yeah i know about opengl and stuff but this makes it obvious that oyu can really develpe multi platform games, doom was among the first ones and hopefully many others will follow the example
Gryph Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 Yeah, unfortunately developers don't have time and money to make games for what is still a pretty small market. Most of them develop in DirectX environment. Maybe once WINE and Cedega improve then it would be cool.
James Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 (edited) I like Intel so thats what I will stick with. Plus Since I have no major problems with windows. I will get Windows Longhorn as well Edited January 15, 2005 by James
Gryph Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 If some of you want to give Avalon (something that will come with Longhorn) a try, there is a community release. But first read this: http://news.com.com/Microsoft+gives+develo..._3-5460239.html http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en
Gryph Posted January 15, 2005 Posted January 15, 2005 No, I'm going to read up more on it first. This line scared me off: "The company warns customers not to use it even on a primary development computer, with there being every likelihood of bugs and a pretty good chance developers will want to reinstall their system once they're done using the Avalon preview." But I think it's about time I do a format and fresh installation of Windows.

It started off on Windows for a few months, then a linux client came out followed by a Mac client.

But its hard to say how much of a speed loss you incur this way since GC emus can't go to fast as it is. Still, brings a little more hope to ditching windows. What I need is a decent set of easy to use encoding tools for linux. There needs to be a good linux alternative to Cinema Craft Encoder before I'd switch OS
