emsley Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Dead Rising 2 PC - I did everything to get my Machine read for this, defragged, cleaned it up, installed new graphics drivers, turned the settings down and blam runs like a big pile of donkey shit.
Krosigrim Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Resumed Star Ocean TLH after about a year. Battle system is great but the dialog is rancid. So many things about the game get me poking fun at it. The one that stands out significantly to me right now... is how someone says something deep or emotional or compelling... and someone will say theyre name. Example. Edge: "We do it for our future, for our dreams." Reimi: "Edge..." I dont know what this literary device is called... but they do it constantly. Every character in your party, except Bacchus, does this... I can see this perhaps once or twice... but I have seen it over 30 times now no lie. And Im only halfway through the game. The way the story plays out... how the characters interact grates my nerves. But the game is so good (to us select few) I can easily get over it. But honestly... this is one of the most irritating JRPG's I have EVER played. Inky... this would be your kryptonite! I can "crushing walls of text" all the ridiculous, stupid, rancid, idiotic etc. but I wont. I will say the game is fun as hell. I hope whoever was in charge, and whoever designed certain aspects (writers, character designers, etc.) are fired permanently. The next Star Ocean better not be so lacking.
Agozer Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Yeah, Star Ocean 4 is great as far the Battle System and pretty much everything else goes... with the exception of the dialog, which will on many occasions make most gamers want to strangle babies. Still, the game has its moments story and dialog-wise, for me anyways. I'm one of those gamers that don't really get that bothered by poor script and dialog, as long as the actual game mechanics are worth my time I can deal with pretty much anything. The one thing I really don't like about how JRPGs are constructed is the choice that any given game has either an emo loner-type character, a complete opposite of the former with too much attitude/energy... or in a move exemplified by SO4, a fairly "normal" person that gets poor dialog and/or suffers a crisis of faith and breaks down, followed by needing his or her party to smack him around and given him/her a pep talk of sorts to get back in the game. It's like it's impossible to create a character that's not only level-headed and sure of himself/herself, but doesn't get whiny at any point in the game. Also, it's equally impossible for such a character to have a a troubled past and having dealt with that issue long ago, instead of always having to face his "demons" during the course of the game. P.S. Bacchus is the man. [/rant]
Krosigrim Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 But to those who do not know... and this goes beyond mere opinion... "poor dialog" is a major understatement, " 'kay ". Yea I am interested in what is going to happen next, it does have its moments. I felt much gratification beating the Aeos (2nd run) boss. Somehow I didnt loose my bonus board! Ahh... the games innuendo moments are fantastic. Just descriptive enough to say WTF... many many times. What the fuck IS taboo in Japan?!?!?!
Devia Eleven Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 I tried to play Star Ocean TLH, along with all of the other 50 JPGs for the PS2, I even purchased the game. With a little bit of what Agozer said, and RPG fatigue, I never finished it, or got that far. Playing too many games at once is the problem for me.
Agozer Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 What the fuck IS taboo in Japan?!?!?!If only I'd know. My not-so-expert of an opinion for a long time has been "Not a whole lot of things". I'm currently in on a planet that feels and seems like the very definitely final dungeon of sorts, but it can't be because I'm missing around 50 different monster, a bunch a weapon and spaceship data, etc. etc. The dungeon in that particular planet is kind of a bitch, too. Bit too fond of obscure puzzles. Excellent place to level up your party though. ~30,000-50,000 EXP for from a battle isn't shabby by any means.
someboddy Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Just finished Just Cause 2(the story, that is. Don't have time to get 100% - too much other games to play).
Hawq Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Dead Rising 2, so many combo weapons to make & use on hapless zombies
solidius23 Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 You must be early in the story those zombies become a pain in the ass, nothing a lightsaber cant handle but still a pain in the ass nonetheless lol

Yea the bonus grid is usually set to %100 XP and %4 recharge for me. I get 14 green tiles and grind weak monsters for items and pts. I can only imagine how much ruin I will create when I get the end game items.
emsley Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Dead rising two - I had to OVERCLOCK my card just to get it moving. This card is defently on the edge now. I defently need to upgrade this year, and another stick of RAM. I kinda like it, I think i would enjoy it more if I had some FAST FPS. Feel a little "go here, do this" to me at the moment but im only on the first part. That old man with the shotgun got his ass kicked and died.

I haven't missed any particularly noteworthy quests (unless a few in Lemuria before going to the Cardianon ship count - the damn game made no indication that after that particular section, those quests would no longer be available) and having 50 different monsters in a bonus dungeon or dungeons seems kind of overkill. A standard dungeon has 10 different monsters max, often less. Outside areas have slightly more. I usually go with roughly 7% recharge and rest EXP for me. I find that the monsters tend to be tough enough to not to be trifled with, meaning that high-end skills are mandatory, and at least 6-8% recharge along with those. Characters with high MP offensive skills (Edge and Meracle in particular) go through their MP like popcorn with triple skill cancels. Having an all green board is kinda nice too, but it takes considerable effort to make all the tiles green in the first place.

Krosigrim Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Infinite Space: DS Good... but not. I like it but I do not see myself EVER playing it again once beaten. A few ships in your fleet. Lots of stats, weapon upgrades, but the best part is customizing the loadout of your ship. As in each ship has empty spaces you can place stuff. Radar, shields, upgraded engine rooms, even Gyms and stuff. Kinda like the golem loadout in Legend of mana on PS. Each ship has their empty spaces in different configurations so you cannot have all of the best stuff, you often need to consider size and shape of a particular pod and work according to space and necessity. Good for those who like RPG/strategy style games. Extremely boring and unrewarding for those who do not.
