  1. Well when you load an image like that pSX will asume you are trying to load a cue/bin image and will try to guess what format the image is in. Since all PlayStation games are Mode2/2352 then this will most likely be what pSX detects. pSX support ISO, cue/bin and CloneCD (ccd, img, sub) images and 1.12 introduce support for Alcohol (mds/mdf) images so you have a wide variety of formats to choose from. Since you said you tried to load a .img file then that must mean you have a CloneCD image. Just load the .ccd file instead and you won't get any error message. pSX will load .img and .bin files even after it show that error message but will assume that they are single track images so game with more then one track will have problems. In that case it's always best to use the full image format at all times when using pSX so you don't see that error message. [EDIT] As much as I want to agree with you that ePSXe is a good emulator, pSX runs all Final Fantasy games better then ePSXe ever could. Try it and see for yourself. http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com
  2. It might be possible to upload the Choa to a virtual VMU and use a VMS emulator to name it and then load it back in the game...although that's just my theory and I don't have the VMS emulator link on hand at the moment.
  3. Although I'm sure dark_alex will be sorly missed by PSP homebrew fans all over, it's nice to see that the firmware cracks are still being worked on. Who knows maybe dark_alex is secretly involved with this group.
  4. I found a game called Dino City that seems to be close to what you're describing.
  5. Good to hear you got it working. Also, Red Rescue Team does do a reset thing and after that a whole bunch of new things open up such as the ability to evolve.
  6. The save states will prevent you from continuing to play after you beat the Elite Four becaue the game has to reset and load yoru in-game battery save and if there is none to load (or if it can't save to begin with) then the game is basically over for you. If you use a save state now there is no way to make a battery save from it so all your hard work will be for nothing as a lot of people have found out the hard way already. Are you sure you have the vba-over.ini in the right folder and extracted from the zip file it's in? Also, are you using the US version as that is the only version in the vba-over.ini file on page 2 of this topic.
  7. Did you delete the old .sav file? VBA will still try to use the same save setting that was used in the .sav file it loads not matter what setting you have set. This includes the vba-over.ini file settings. Delete the .sav file the goes with the game you're trying to save in and try again.
  8. Now that you mention it I do remember reading something about the plugin specs being changed on the latest version of PCSX2. Right now all anyone can do it patiently wait until 0.9.4 comes out. They've already got Kingdom Hearts 2 and MGS4 running on it as well as a bunch of others. Speed may still be an issue though although the devs of PCSX2 released a video of KH2 running perfectly at full speed. Perhaps because they have powerful computers to work with.
  9. Unless you have a very powerful PC then most games will run very slow on your computer. As far as plugins go the only ones that are compatible with it are the ones that come with it.
  10. Well now that's interesting. I've never heard any report of DS roms running on older GBA carts. Then again I also haven't been looking for any news about it so that may be why. [EDIT] Oh wow I made this second set of 100 posts quick. I remember thinking before that I may never reach 100 now I'm looking at 200 .
  11. I'm sure everyone by now can agree that Sony is just doing thing for money and to promote "better" anti-piracy schemes on the PSP. Most people that buy a PSP usually only do it to hack it and not to play the actual games on it but for emulators to play other systems' games. Nintendo has done almost nothing to block homebrew on the DS except for trying to block internet access for homebrew apps which can be easily worked around by setting the wifi router to channel 10 instead of the default channel 11.
  12. It looks to me like everyone there is still doing their best to hold back. If you notice the guy to the left of her is staring straight up at the sky to avoid the temptation.
  13. Well the reason your hdd has been running for so long is becasue you've never turned it off. The more times a hdd has to spin up, the shorter it's lifespan.
  14. Only newer slot-2 cards support running NDS software. Some run them better then others.
  15. I have an original model DS (still with original version 1 firmware) with an R4DS and both Kingston and SanDisk 1GB microSD cards. My original game list incudes: Sonic Rush Super Mario DS Pokemon Dash Spider-Man 2 Ultimate Spider-Man Final Fantasy III Mario Kart DS I managed to loose one of my original Stylus' so I'm now using the second one that I had stored in my Super Mario 64 DS. I might find it again if I ever clean my room though but for now...
  16. I've never really abandoned this board (although after hitting 100 posts my daily post count did go down). I just can't find anything much to talk about here anymore, although I do check back on my VBA posts now and then to see if anyone needs help. Not to mention the emails and PM I get about it.
  17. That's why I added "as long as you keep them in a safe place". Usually for archiving it's best to use them and keep them stored away from anything that can damage them and a good archiver will do this, especially someone who knows how sensitive most optical media can be. Burning at slow speeds can also greatly increase the chance of the disc still being readable even under severe conditions like bad scratches as long as they aren't too deep.
  18. Also slot-2 cards came before slot-1 cards so it was the only way people could run NDS roms on their DS until slot-1 cards were finally made.
  19. You might have to delete the existing save in order for it to work. I think I had this same problem a while back. No$GBA tries to save in the same format that is chosen regardless of what the save file was made in so it's best to save the options once you find the correct save type so that it will continue to use that type each time you load a game.
  20. I didn't know you could use the ARDS as a passme. Now I need to get a slot-2 card and try that out. I got an ARDS last month but haven't used it much since I got my R4DS.
  21. Nintendo actually made a special device that looks like a flash drive that you plug into your computer's USB drive and it will use your compter into a wifi access point for the DS as long as you have a broadband internet connection. It's about $40 but it might be worth it to anyone that doesn't want to mess with setting up a wifi network. You can find it at most gaming stores.
  22. Actually hard drives are the least reliable of storage mediums as they are guanteed to crash due to the sensitve nature of a hdd. The only question is when. The components inside of a hard drive are very sensitive to contaminantes which is why it's sealed up so tight to keep dust out of it becasue even a small piece of dust could bump into the read/write head(s) and ruin the entire drive as well as a good chunk of the data on the drive. The only reliable back-up medium is optical discs. As long as you keep them stored in a safe place they are guarenteed to last forever. I have discs that I made from when I got my first CD burner that still read perfectly but hard drives that I only had for a few years that give me errors any time I try to use them. I've even had to get a new hdd for my laptop after only 5 months of having it. That's the shortest life-span of any hard drive I've had.
  23. I say go for the Logitech Rumble Pad 2. It's the one I have and it works perfectly on everything I've used it on including the rumble support on emulators. I assure you that it will be a very good investment for both emulation and PC gaming. The cheaper version has a turbo feature but leaves out the rumble.
  24. Are you getting an error message saying something about a missing dll file? If that's the case then update your DirectX 9c version to at least the August 2000 revision and it should run. Talk on pSX's official forum say that them emulator works perfectly on Vista.
  25. That long beep does sound like a memory error to me. That would also explain why you don't get a post test since the memory is the first thing the bios check appon start-up. I guess just replace the memory in it and see if it boots then.
