  6. In case you're unaware, many of UI controls on the function keys have been reassigned. For example, instead of P for Pause, now it's F5.

Here's the list, copied from a post on reddit by a dev.

    Quote

We got annoyed one time too many at the interactions of the P key with drivers that would need it (keyboards, virtual piano keyboards, lots of stuff). So we decided an overhaul was in order. Of course, all that is still customizable, so one can trivially change things back in the UI if needed.

    • F5: pause
    • shift-F5: single-stepping in pause
    • F4: single-stepping in rewind
    • F6: save state
    • shift-F6: quicksave (save without confirmation to a save state called quick, at least for now)
    • F7: load state
    • shift-F7: quickload
    • F8/F9: frameskip level up/down
    • shift-F8: toggle cheats

Plus a number of unchanged controls:

    • F4: show graphics/tilemaps
    • F10: (un)throttle
    • F11: show fps
    • shift-F11: show profiler
    • F2/shift-F2: tape stop/start
    • F12: screenshort
    • shift-F12: record mng
    • shift-ctrl-F12: record avi

Hopefully, that will help. Also, the easier-to-access save/load keys could be nice.

  8. I've set up C.I. builds for MAMEUI64 at https://github.com/Robbbert/mameui/actions

Each time I push new changes to github, it will create a binary for you to play with.

You need a github account for this. Only 2 weeks of builds are kept. You should download the newest one to try out the latest games before the official release.

If MAMEUI bugs are noted (not MAME bugs), such as crashing etc please let me know.

  9. I don't have Windows 11 due to Microsoft limitations, so MAMEUI is not officially supported on that OS.

However I assume that other people know if it works or not. I've never heard of the black screen problem but assume it's a local issue with your video.

Let's see if anyone else knows something.

  10. This machine only has 2 memory slots, so I added a 128MB simm, which the bios recognised (total of 192MB).

But trying to run wakuwak7 still blew up halfway through loading (file 000-lo.lo)

First attempt caused the computer to reboot, 2nd attempt did the same as earlier (screen goes weird and computer froze).

Seriously though, I doubt I'll ever use the DOS version for anything apart from doing tests for you.

I'll be here for another 2-3 days, so let me know if you want any other tests done.

  11. I've downloaded both version 0.96.6 from your site, and version 7 from the link in this thread. I copied everything over to the DOS machine. When I tried to run it I got an error.

I downloaded the required dpmi file, and then it (version 6) started up.

My soundcard is a Creative CT2230 (Sound Blaster 16).

i had a bunch of weird errors/crashes/freezes but then I found I had chosen the wrong sound driver in Raine.

After using the Soundblaster 16 driver, got sound but I had to choose "Max Mixer Volume" in order to hear anything.

I tried wakuwak7 it loaded up about halfway the screen went strange and Raine froze. It might be because the machine only has 64MB RAM, which is all that normal DOS supports. How much RAM does Raine need?

mspacmab works ok, but instead of 1 to start the game I have to press V.

version 7 (seal) makes almost no sound and it sounds wrong.

  13. Ah, I wasn't expecting an answer so quickly. My DOS machine is at another location and I won't be out that way for a few days. But I will try it out when I do get there.

I was doing some reading and it seems that the PCI sound card is not so good for DOS-based sounds, ISA is preferred.

So I will report back when I have some test results.

  14. You'll need to physically identify the card, download the dos drivers for it and install them. The install will add some lines to your autoexec.bat file.

If it's Creative Soundblaster compatible, then you could probably just get the SB 2.0 driver and give that a go. It will tell you if the card is suitable.

After all that, the BLASTER variable is still needed, but the install will set that in autoexec.bat as well. My default settings are IRQ 5, DMA 1, High DMA 5.

I have a DOS machine that I use for testing things, and it also has various versions of windows 3.x as well. Obviously the sound card is different to yours, being in a ISA slot, and being a real Creative card.
