The official word is that there will be no 0.222 this month. Therefore there will also be no ARCADE, MESS, MESSUI or MAMEUI. However, there will be a HBMAME 0.221.A scheduled for release on Wednesday 27th.

MAME release schedule: Sunday before the last Wednesday of the month - freeze applied, release branch created. The next Wednesday - MAME released (built from the release branch), then that branch deleted. Meanwhile, developers can continue working, but those changes will appear in MAME a month later. --- Recently MAME has not been released when advertised, due to real life matters affecting the release scheduler, mostly due to the effects of the Chinese virus. After seeing what he's had to go through, if I was in a similar situation you wouldn't have seen any releases for months. However, due to the uncertainties going forward, this is the new timetable: --- HBMAME will once again resume its independent status, as per the note on the website. It will be released when it is convenient for me to do so, and not related to the MAME release. The version number depends on the relationship to the MAME freeze. If the freeze has started, then it will carry the new number, otherwise it will carry the current number. --- MESS, MESSUI, ARCADE and MAMEUI will be scheduled for release one week after the freeze starts, or as convenient to me. If MAME gets released before the week is up, then these builds will likely be released shortly after. If MAME hasn't appeared after a week, it means nobody knows when (or if) it will come out, and so I'll do my releases anyway. --- For all my builds, the source change package (*.rar) will no longer be supplied. Instead, to build your own, you need to pull to the tag directly from github.

No. The delay in official Mame was only because the person doing the release had a bunch of real-life issues, which were more important. MAMEUI has not been touched since the tag.

Yes, that is the intention. However, with still no word of a release of 0.221, all future actions are undefined.

Another good release I use short names quite a bit for various things. There's a small trap with them, but it's not really a problem. If you move a file with a long name to another folder, its short name can change. Also, most likely if you delete and recreate a long-named file. But that kind of thing shouldn't affect you. I've had fun with utf8 and utf16 conversion in my frontends too, but it mostly just seems to work. I haven't had to think about it for a while though. And for font names, it's another one of those things that Microsoft changes for the sake of change, and just to be annoying I suspect.

The official release of Mameui64 on mameui.info does not happen until after the official release of MAME - and who knows if that will ever happen. The person who does that job is tied up in real-life matters, and we've heard nothing from him for a week. The executable used on the official mameui is the one I've created above, so go ahead and use it.

Well, in the last few days toilet paper has reappeared on the shelves. Next week restrictions will start to be rolled back. Most of our deaths came from just 2 places - a cruise ship that was allowed to dock and let the passengers off without being checked; and an infected person who stayed at work in an aged care facility. However it seems there will be some permanent changes. Social distancing is here to stay which causes behavioral changes all over the place. There's no word on when (or if) travel to other countries will resume. I can't really see cruise ships ever coming back, as they are nothing more than floating incubators. We've had a total of 96 deaths in our country, so far. The real culprits, China, have been behaving like entitled big babies. They have been busily cleaning away any mentions of the disease on their internet. Anyone who wants to sue is visited by the police. Lawyers disappear. Anyone who wants to publicise what's been going on gets locked away. You can be sure that the entire episode will soon be a taboo subject in that sad country and be erased from history just like previous crackdowns. Several countries want an investigation into how the virus started. China won't allow it, which is a sure sign that they are hiding something.
