  1. When I was in junior high school (about 1990), there was a candy store across the street from school. In it was an arcade game that I played almost every day, yet, all these years later, I'm drawing a blank on the name. All I really remember about it was that, when playing the CPU, you started off playing against a junior high team. After you beat them, you played the high school team, which was a bit harder, and so on, up the ladder. Does anyone know what game I'm talking about, and, if so, is it emulated?
  2. I'll be reposting the first two discs when I'm finished with BAED3 (which should be very soon). I'll post a heads-up here when I do.
  3. You don't have to spend that much on a mod chip. You should consider the Aladdin chip, the cheapest Xbox chip that works on all versions. Buy from robotpig.com. They are based in Asia and are the cheapest I've found - $10 for the Aladdin. Fast shipping, too, considering it's from across the world (took 1 week exactly for my last order). You do have to solder the Aladdins, but I'd recommend getting a solderable chip even if you were getting an expensive one. From what I hear, the solderless adapters have a nasty habit of coming loose. If you've never soldered before, you can practice for a while on old circuit boards. Just break open an old digital clock or something and go to work. If you have an older Xbox (v1.0 thru v1.2), you can get a $4 cheapmod chip. They can also work with new version Xboxes, but one of the solder points is INCREDIBLY difficult, and not recommended unless you have a hell of a lot of soldering practice. For more info, check out xbox-scene.com.
  4. It's not about whether the Xbox2 should have WiFi - it's about whether it will - and it won't. Really, there's no reason for it. It's slower and more expensive to implement than a normal NIC. Plus, you already have A/V cables and a power cable coming out of the Xbox. Is one more cable really that big of a deal? Also, most people don't have wireless NICs on their computers yet. MS doesn't want people to have to go out and buy more crap (well, crap not made by MS) to get Xbox Live to work. Most people already have a wired NIC, and, if they don't, they can get one for as little as $5. Perhaps MS will make a wireless NIC as an optional add-on.
  5. From what I've read, the next Xbox will just have a regular 10/100 Ethernet port like the current Xbox. Further, the range of Wi-Fi devices is relatively short. Exactly who are those Xbox2s going to be beaming their "come get me" signals out to? Will Microsoft representatives park right outside my house (and every other house in America) with wireless routers, just waiting to catch me? Are you sure you've thought this thing through?
  6. Well, yeah, but the difference is that I could grab that 25GB during ANY 24 hour period. Plus the speed isn't dependent on how popular the file is - everything on Usenet is equally blazing fast. No need to worry about torrent web pages going down, trackers going down, or opening up ports on your firewall. Plus, uploading on BT kills my downloads and makes web pages non-responsive. I'll never have that problem on the news groups, because there you get to choose when to post (upload) instead of being forced to do it constantly. Most people leech 'till it hurts and never post a thing, but that's okay, because there are more than enough people that do post. Bigworm: Newsbin Pro or Xnews
  7. Newsgroups, by far - and not just for new releases. There's just as much (if not more) old stuff posted to the Xbox newsgroup than there is new stuff. Plus, news servers are generally a LOT faster than BT peers or people on DC. I always max out my connection on my ISP's news server - that's 325KB/s, night or day, no matter what. I can grab 25GB in 24 hours (in theory, of course )! Usenet is better because a file only has to be uploaded once, then everyone can download it. It's a far more speedy and efficient system than any of the alternatives, and it's pretty much a one-stop-source for any kind of files you can think of.
  8. Ah, damn. I should have checked on XboyAdvance. I already started reposting BAED2. I guess I'll just include an update file with instructions near the end of the post. As for your news server question, Teranews free service was a good option, but posts from there have had really bad completion lately (and it was never too good to begin with). Don't worry about it, though. I appreciate you wanting to help, but I can handle the repost requests from my pay server.
  9. Yeah, maybe you're right. There's 20 other people seeding it now, so I guess I can cut it loose. There are other BAED partial requests on the newsgroup that I have to catch up on anyway. I'll do a full BAED2 repost soon. I see there's a new XboyAdvance version out, which I'd like to include, but it seems that a lot of people are having problems with it, both with save states not working, and with screwed-up sound on some GBA games. The latest version does have some new GBA optimizations, though, so hopefully a v13 will be released soon with those bugs ironed out.
  10. Thanks, glad you like it. #a.b.c.i.x. most likely deleted your request because of bad syntax (they're really touchy about that), or because it's not an official release. 99% of the stuff they post was released by warez groups. My disc was released by me. They wouldn't be able to find BAED on the private FTPs (or at least I assume that's where their stuff comes from) where they get their official games. Unless members of the channel downloaded it from the newsgroup and held onto the files, they won't have it. I'll post here when I do repost BAED2, but I'm not sure exactly when it will be, as I'm still using all my upload bandwidth to seed out BAED1 on Bittorrent (and there's still 345 people downloading it!).
  11. 1. Extract the downloaded archive. The newest version of XboyAdvance is v10. 2. The extracted archive will have a few files in that will end up on the root of your disc. default.xbe is the main executable file. Every Xbox game must have a default.xbe on the root of the disc. 3. There will be two folders in your extracted archive: emuskins and gbaroms. Simply copy all your Gameboy/GBC/GB Advance ROMs into the "gbaroms" folder. You can ZIP the games individually to save space. The emulator will read from ZIP archives. You can't have more than 4,096 files in a directory, but subdirectories are supported. 4. Download Qwix and run it. On the left pane of the program window, you'll see Load ISO, Create ISO, Manage Titles on Xbox Hard Drive and Tools. Click on "Create ISO." 5. Under "Source," click the radio button for "Local Folder," then click the button to browse for your emulator. Remember default.xbe will be on the root of the disc, so choose the folder than contains default.xbe. 6. Now just click the "Create ISO" button right below it. Qwix will make the ISO and you can burn it with the program of your choice. (Go to File menu->Burn Image to burn in Nero 5)
  12. Thanks for the offer, but I have all the Neo Geo stuff, and I'm stuck with a crappy 25" Sanyo TV, so that progressive scan won't do me much good. Just leave BT open to seed the file for a while when you're done & I'll be happy.
  13. No, I'm still seeding it & it's still on torrentreactor. http://www.torrentreactor.net/torrents/view_14782
  14. Okay, there's now a torrent for BAED 1. Check torrentreactor.net to grab it. I'm trying to get it up on suprnova too, but it doesn't seem to want to show up.
  15. Usually (at least from the feedback I've seen on Usenet) when you have some odd problem that nobody else seems to be having with these discs, your BIOS is the culprit. What BIOS are you using? Have you tried updating it?
  16. No, that's right. The DVD-ROM is D:. Yup, that's it. Add the root folder of each emulator - the folder with the default.xbe file in it. I don't think there's any tutorials yet. V4 just came out last week.
  17. Won't work how? Could you be a little more specific?
  18. Well, it looks like the make-your-own BAED is no longer necessary. Why? There is CDX menu support in the new Craxtion 4.0. Just download the appropriate emulators from #xbins, throw your ROMs into the specified folders for each emulator, and run the easy Craxtion Wizard to make a multigame ISO out of them. This makes things MUCH easier from the user's standpoint than if I just packed up a bunch of files and gave them instructions to change configuration options manually. Get it at http://www.craxtion.com/ I figure since I've already collected all those emulators, though, that I might as well RAR 'em up and post them all to the newsgroup to save people the effort of getting them individually from #xbins. Look for that post later today. NRC, I've been thinking of seeding this out on BT for some time. I may or may not do so in the near future. I'll post here if I do. In the meantime, anyone else that has it is free to seed it if they want, of course.
  19. No, you can't. You have to close the session on the disc, and after that, you cannot write to it again. You can, however, use a CD/RW or DVD/RW and just erase the contents and reburn it with more ROMs.
  20. A dashboard lets you launch programs and games from your hard drive and many other things. The default Xbox dashboard is the MS Dash - the screen you get when you turn the Xbox on without a disc in it, that lets you change the date & stuff. You don't need any kind of special dash to play an emulator disc.
  21. Make it into an ISO and burn the ISO - it's pretty hard to screw that up. Download Quix or Craxtion. They'll basically just ask you what folder is the root of your disc, and then make the ISO for you. They're real easy to use.
  22. I don't have an ETA for the arcade disc yet. I'm kinda confused on some things and still trying to work them out. I posted some questions in this forum, but nobody answered. I'm just gonna keep digging for info, I guess. I'll figure it all out before long, probably. I'd like to include "banned" ROMs, too. My goal is to get as many playable games on the disc as possible. I understand why they do it, but I don't like the idea of witholding support for newer games, especially when they just choose some arbitrary date that's legally meaningless. As for the ROM-less BAED, I should have it ready very soon. I've got all the latest emulators organized & stuff. Almost there. I was thinking about finding preview pictures for everything, but then I counted the emulators and there were about 40, so I nixed that idea. I'll include the pics for all the systems I've done on BAED discs so far, but I'm too lazy to go looking for pics of the Amstrad CPC and other systems that I never even heard of before emulation. I'll just comment out the preview pic line in the config file for emus that don't have pics. People can easily add their own pics if they like. I'll include easy instructions so anyone should be able to put it together.
  23. Sure, I can do that. Good idea, and it's really not much work for me, either. Also easy. Should be no problem. I've thought about that before. I may end up doing something like that. One way to figure out which games to include would be to dig up some old sales figures or something and see which games were the most popular. Or, hell, with as many games as you can fit on a DVD, I could probably just go through all the systems and pick out every game I've ever even heard of and still not be able to fill up the disc! Prican25, thanks for the tip about the sound problems with Xsnes9x. I hadn't heard about that.
  24. I'll repost part 13 for you. (Don't forget you can also recover missing/incomplete parts with the PAR2 files.) Unfortunately, I'm still not having any luck getting Xsnes9x to work with CDX, so I'm not sure when I'll have an updated BAED1 ready.
