  1. I have been setting up modded Xboxes for my friends, and alot of them aren't very tech savy, or have kids. Here is how I set up a duel BIOS system for them. I have BIOS bank 1 boot an evox off of the C partition that has all features enables (Flash Bios, Backup, Boxplorer, Xbox FTP...the works). That's for me "The Tech Guy" or the grownups to use. Then I set up BIOS bank 2 so it boots an Evox off of the F partition. That Evox only shows Xbox Games....that's it.....nothing for them or there kids to screwup. I have thought of making a CD-R version of Evox that "unlocks" all the things that can get messed up. A sort of help / unlock disk, but I've found the 2 bios banks to be better since there is no worries of losing it like a CD.
  2. The first of the 2 new xbes takes the place of the original Kawa-X.11. It is meant to support 372 games. Including cthd2k3 and mslug5nd, which have taken the place of 2 prototype games. The second of the new xbes supports the additional 7 newer games.
  3. I just downloaded the new Kawa-Hex xbes off of alt.binaries.emulators.neogeo newsgroup.......thanks for posting Prican25. Great work Mr.X! I like the 2 xbe idea, it seemed Kawa-X was getting a little crowded. The S1 fix in ROTD was much needed. After reading the read me file, and editing my dat to rename a few things, I was up and running with my rom sets. The only roms that are in my sets that don't match what you have in the read me file is the rom sizes for the c5, and c6 roms in Metal Slug 4. The roms still load, and the game plays fine. I was just wondering if the 4 Mb size on ms4n_c5.rom and ms4n_c6.rom is correct. I have only seen these roms in an 8 Mb size. All the dat files I look at also have these 2 always listed as 8 Mb roms. I was also wondering if some one could tell me the difference between decrypted, and predecrypted, and how that effects rom naming. If the rom is decrypted I'm guessing it has the d in the rom name somewhere. I also have some nebula roms sets that have decrypted c roms......does Kawa-Hex decrypt these automaticly? Alot of questions I know, but I'm a curious fella. Anyway, GREAT work Mr.X! Thanks for the xbes
  4. I just noticed something strange. I tried the patch that ciccior made for Kawa-X that enables the newer games. Didn't care for it, by the way. Only 3 of my sets would work......I thought everyone had at least cthd2k3 that was the same set Many roms were named different than SE and even some set names were changed. That just adds to the confussion. Anyway, what I noticed was this. I was using the same svcplus set as I usually use in Kawa-X SE, but the sound was different on the patched version. Not a big difference, but a noticable one. The easiest place to notice was on the character select music. The beeping sound in the music was different. Same roms, same emulator...the only difference I could think of was what game was replaced to make room for the svcplus set. Would what set is being replaced make a difference like that? Weird. Well, back to tinkering around with FBAX, and the patched Kawa-X. While I wait............................................................................ ...................................................................patiently..... ..................................for Mr.X to post his Super Double XBE pack!
  5. Thanks for the new link. It worked! After playing it some..........I miss Kawa-X SE Anyone know where Mr. X's Super Double XBE Release is?
  6. I'm having troube downloading the file. I get a "Requested File Size Exceeds 256k" error. Can someone post the default.xbe to a newsgroup? Or mail it to me? Or IM me? AOL IM: DugFreez
  7. This is another great example of why the Kawa-X Plus, Kawa-X SE, and FBAX HACK users need a standarized set of ROMS. Kawa-X seems to have the ability to let a user use roms of a differend crc, but it doesn't look like FBAX does. If everyone continues to use different sets this mess will never get cleared up. Everytime someone adds support for a game in FBAX, everyone has to dl a new default and then hex edit it to match whichever set they are using?.....How much sence does that make? Someone should put together a rom list to have as a standard set. It should be as close to the "official" sets as possable. When it is a game that has no "official" set..........which is most of the newer set. The set should be as close to the sets used by the PC emulators. Most importantly.....all sets should be as full functional as possable. What I mean by this is, all sets should support console mode, svcplus should have ALL 36 characters unlocked, many P1s don't unlock the final 4 characters. Many s1 roms for svcbl, and svcplus don't have all of the sound FX. Some P1 roms for svcplus don't display the plus in the intro. A set shoud be made that has all of thses things and be as close to the regular PC sets as possable. Then it can hexed in by someone, and posted by someone with a dat. THEN......people can stop trading p1, s1, and m1 roms in and out of sets, and we can all have a set of roms that work with any of these hack emulators without all the fuss.
  8. I've been waiting on your 2 default release also Mr X. Where can I dl it?
  9. Where is a good place to find a hacked FBAX? I just seem to be able to find the "Official" release around. If the hacked version plays MS5....does that mean it also plays the other 8 "banned" games?
  10. I just played Kof2k2 on Kawa-X SE, and then on Nebula. I couldn't tell any difference in speed. They sure look alot different.....due to the filtering used I guess, but I noticed no difference in speed.
  11. No, You only need the "Official" Kawa-X 0.11 to play them! Now if you want to play the newer games that Mr. X and others have been nice enough to add....you may need extra versions of Kawa-X. I know having more than one copy is very, very complicated, but I would think that someone that has the smarts to find the power button on an Xbox could figure it out, and not get to stressed out about it. It also take up an entire 3MB of harddrive space for EACH copy. That's like 6 waisted MB! Why does god hate me so! It seem that Kawa-X is coded with only a specific number of games to support. The people who are making these new games playable are doing the best they can do, with what they are given. It seems simple enough.....to gain a game, you have to lose a game. Sacrafices must be made. I would be happy with having these games playable even if it meant having a seperate copy of Kawa-X for each one. Mr X, I'm looking forward to your "Double XBE" release. Prican25, thanks for the quickie xbe to play mslug5 while I'm waiting for it. PS: That time I did mean to sound harsh.
  12. Metal Slug 4 also has the debug mode popup if you pause the game in console mode. The reason for not being able to fire was probaly because it seems like console mode in Metal Slug games wants you to go into the options and assign all the buttons. Seems weird, but I just checked and Metal Slug 3 was that way too. I guess they figured if you were playing it on a console, you might want to reconfigure your buttons.
  13. Oh my! Two whole versions of Kawa-X..that sounds like alot to manage. I don't know.........but writing drivers sounds pretty complicated to me. If it was just writing a dat file telling it what roms to run for what games it would be pretty easy. As long as you knew what ROMs it would run. I really haven't looked into FBAX myself. I heard that the CPS1/2 games run with some glitches......and that would make it unpopular with many....including myself. I will give it a try. PS: I didn't mean to sound so harsh above, but is it really to much to manage two programs to play 100s of games?
  14. Hey All. I just figured I would chime in with my $.02. I don't really care how many Kawa-X xbe files it takes to make these games playable. Heck make a default.xbe for each one if you want. If that is what it takes to make them all playable why should you care if it's two seperate versions of the same emulator. I'm just glad to have them playable, and I would rather have a seperate xbe than to have the games not work correctly ex:ROTD with no s1 support. I think the 2 seperate Kawa-X SE files sounds like a winner.
  15. I have read on your post that it doesn't matter much what the crc on the roms are, as long as they are named correctly, and have the correct file size. I have also downloaded many roms of the correct name, and file length that just don't work as well as others. Many have no console mode support, some P1 roms on svcplus don't have the final 4 bosses unlocked, and others just don't seem to work. I was wondering if you could post a dat or send me a shot pack of exactly what roms you are using on your version of Kawa-X SE. I would like to make a ClrMamepro dat of what roms "for sure" work correctly, and you are working with. I would really appreciate it, and thanks for all the work you've done on Kawa-X SE.
  16. I've been reading up on the Kawa-X Plus and Kawa-X SE information. In the past couple of days I have been downloading the roms and files needed, and I have a couple of suggestions for future works. It sounds like Mr. X and his helpers are trying to go towards a more standard route. This is a good move I think. My first suggestion is rename the default.xbe. The posts and read me files always seem to say it will show up in the dash as something other than Kawa-X, but it ALWAYS shows up as Kawa-X. I have downloaded al least 3 different files / versions and none of them have had the name changed in the xbe. I know it's easy to fix myself, but why can't you do it for us. I'm willing to help if you want. Just send me each version before you post it, and I'd be happy to edit the name for you. Which leads me to my next suggestion. Name it something with a version number. Kawa-X SE is great now, but how will someone know it from the next version that comes out? I suggest the current version be called Kawa-X SE 8. Because it supports 8 extra games. and bug fixes could be noted with a.something. (ex: Kawa-X SE 8.3) Whenever a new game is supported you can add it to the release number. I would also suggest a read me file be included in any posting. It would be nice if it had a basic list of roms and sizes needed to run the games, and also a short explaination of any differences that different roms might make on a game. I have seen this in some postings of Kawa-X SE. A DAT file would also be nice. I have read in your post that specific roms are not needed much of the time, but a dat of your "Suggested" and "Tested" roms would be nice to have. I could probably throw that together for you if you had the info on what roms you recommend as the best to use. I made the first Nebula DAT pack for Razoola that included unencryped CPS2 games way back in the early days of Nebula Another suggestion is to change the save game folder. I read the post that someone wanted that, and another poster figured out how to change the folder that Kawa-X SE used. I know it is very easy to just refresh the list when changing from Kawa-X to Kawa-X SE, but if it's an easy fix......why not do it. Make Kawa-X SE it's own save. At the least it would save everyone a button press each time they switch versions. I hope I didn't come off as sounding demanding, I just thought you might like some suggestions. Everyone who has worked and helped on Kawaks, Kawa-X, Kawa-X +, and Kawa-X SE has doen a great job. I hope you keep the fun alive.
