Agozer Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Indeed. What do you know, same thing happened to Chrono Trigger Resurrection :/
Sturmvogel Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Whose Blizzard?? And why should I care?
Agozer Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 (edited) Whose Blizzard?? And why should I care?I hope you're joking. Everybody's heard about Blizzard. Edited September 13, 2004 by Agozer
Wizard Posted September 13, 2004 Author Posted September 13, 2004 Blizzard Entertaintment is a the company that has made games such as Diablo, Diablo 2, Warcraft and Starcraft. They will be releasing Starcraft: Ghost, the offical sequal to Starcraft: Brood Wars Expansion that was released in 1999 on PC. This has been the 3rd Starcraft-related mod to be shut down.
Gryph Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 That sucks... But taken from the Blizzard website: Q: Is this StarCraft II?A: No. So they are making a sequel to an expansion pack? That's odd.
Wizard Posted September 13, 2004 Author Posted September 13, 2004 Ghost takes place right after the events of Brood War. So yes, it is the sequal.
Gryph Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 (edited) Is that just one your conjectures or has that been stated by Blizzard that is a sequel to Broodwar? But this is pure copyright infringement...if they made the same basic characters and didn't name it StarCraft: Xel'Naga Vengeance then it might have been able to pass. I mean...don't they think ahead about the ramifications of naming one of their projects something that is copyrighted? Edited September 13, 2004 by GryphonKlaw
Wizard Posted September 13, 2004 Author Posted September 13, 2004 Is that just one your conjectures or has that been stated by Blizzard that is a sequel to Broodwar?Blizzard said it them selves in an interview in Gamepro Magazine for Ghost.

Oh ok... I wonder if it will be any good. I completely forgot about the game till it was just mentioned now. Since this thread mentions Blizzard might as well pop this news in here. Blizzard and NVIDIA announced that they have teamed up to give 1,000 closed beta slots of World of WarCraft away: NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), a worldwide leader in graphics and digital media processors, today announced a collaboration with Blizzard Entertainment® for World of Warcraft®, the highly anticipated massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set to release this holiday season. NVIDIA and Blizzard are working together to ready the game for play on NVIDIA graphics processing units (GPUs), the preferred graphics hardware platform for World of Warcraft. The companies will also engage in strategic co-marketing activities as part of NVIDIA's "The Way It's Meant to Be Played" programme. To celebrate the collaboration, NVIDIA and Blizzard will randomly distribute 1,000 closed beta accounts to eager gamers hoping to be among the first to experience the game. Sign-ups will be held for one week only, starting today at www.nzone.com. It's like a crappy version of Willy Wonka and the 5 Golden Tickets... Edited September 13, 2004 by GryphonKlaw

Inky Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 It's like a crappy version of Willy Wonka and the 5 Golden Tickets...lol only if you could play as a oompa loompa
Daeval Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 (edited) They probably meant that Ghost isn't StarCraft II in that they aren't turning their RTS "series" into a sneaker/shooter series. That doesn't mean it doesn't come next chronologically, just that it's a spinoff rather than a direct sequel. And as for this mod, I honestly can't blame Blizzard. It's the same as the Chrono Trigger issue. You just can't take someone else's setting, characters, etc, and make your own stuff with it, no matter how good it is. That's called copyright infringement. Fanfiction is one thing, but making a full-fledged Total Conversion, even (especially) a free one, is going too far. Blizzard has a right to defend the work they've done to create a franchise people like. If a mod-group thinks they could improve on StarCraft, they've got to pitch it to Blizzard or start from scratch themselves, just like Blizzard did. Maybe that's pretty capitalist, but as someone who hopes to someday release my own creative works, I'm all for it. So no, I won't be adding this to the long list of reasons why I hate blizzard. But everyone want a "real" Starcraft 2, RTS with sexy graphics and all the balancese of the SC. Ghost possibly might be a cover up for development of Starcraft 2 You never know. And it's Starcraft -> Brood War -> Ghost.
KyokugenKiss Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 ghost is a crappy idea for a sequel, i want a hotter more up to date version of the original starcraft engine! GO ZERGLINGS GO!!!
