random guy Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Well I myself am a very spiritual person in that I believe there is a higher power in the universe - mainly because I refuse to believe that all this happened by accident. However, I tried christianity and it didn't really gel for me, and it was mainly because of the bible. This book, supposedly the 'word of god' was written 200 years after the death of Jesus, then rewritten in during the dark ages to update it for a feudal generation (ie make it the king & queen rule by 'divine right', then again by King James - to make it more palatable to the common-folk, and the bible most people read is the 'good news bible' which is another rewrite to make it appeal to a more sophisticated generation, then there's the 'gideon's bible' (the one in all the hotel rooms) that's different too...and now they're trying to rewrite the bible to appeal to a technocratic generation, and another version in Aussie Slang.... Aaargh! how is this expected to be 'the word of God' anymore if the whole thing was supposedly written 200 years after the fact, and has since been changed so many times it would hardly resemble the first one anymore? Plus, how many people knew that Easter was originally a Pagan holiday? When the church was trying to convert the pagans, they said "oh, we've got that holiday, too!" so that catholocism seemed more appealing!
Wizard Posted April 18, 2004 Author Posted April 18, 2004 There is a higher plain of existence is what I believe. Not heaven, nor hell, more like an obmil. You still walk in normal plain, but within the higher plain of existence where only those who have "crossed" you might say will be able to see you, continuing life as it was in the previous plain. Heres some more stuff you can read on.
StriderSkorpion Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Well, so is Christmas (a Pagan holiday). Most theologists believe Christ was born sometime in the Summer or Fall (not sure about this, but it was before December). The Catholic Church is notorious for converting local gods into Saints. Whatever god the people worshipped this and that was replaced by the Patron Saint. The beginning of the Bible was supposedly written by Moses who came along several years after many of the events were to have happened. Honestly there is no evidence of any form of after life and the reverse can be said. I'm not sure what to believe, but I definitely do not like organized religion. It gets too political anymore.
Agozer Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 (edited) Christ...(pun intended) More political and religious debates. I'm out of here. Edited April 18, 2004 by Agozer
StriderSkorpion Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 No political debates here just us (anti)Christians. Also, Agozer, could you get any cheesier without actually becoming cheese? Oh yeah, I say blah to my own *attempted* joke. Come on, man, Christians doesn't sound a whole lot like chickens. Oh yeah sorry back on topic. Umm.. nm.

I didn't bother to read all the comments because this really isn't my thing. Let's make blue cheese while we're at it.
StriderSkorpion Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Good enough for me. Bleu cheese goes well with chicken wings or "buffalo" wings if you prefer.
SWAMP_THING Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 well i am a athiest and don't believe in any kind of reality after this one i always think death is like before you were born, remeber that?nope thats why u should be nice to everyone because you only have 70-100 years alive
StriderSkorpion Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 Or how about fulfilling your wants? After all, lifes short, play hard (or however it went). Thats what Satanists believe. By Satanists, I'm referring to those who belong to the Church of Satan rather people who actually worship Satan. Besides, to quote the great Homer (Simpson): "Getting people to like you is hard. You have to be nice all the time. Getting people to hate you doesn't require anything." Dang I butchered that quote, oh well.
SWAMP_THING Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 what i mean is by being nice to everyone is "do unto others as you would have them do to you" but that doesnt mean u have to become a victim
StriderSkorpion Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 I was just kidding. I wish people followed the "golden rule," but, alas, humans are inherently jerks. If they'd stop being like that maybe we could make a utopian society, but that'd be boring. I usually follow the motto "I do whats I likes and I likes whats I do."
OverlordMondo Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 I am god fools! Now you will all die for blaspheming!HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Gryph Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 This Infidel Guy site is stupid because of its essays from pseudo intellectual morons. These guys give athiests a bad name. The Bill of Rights was BASED on the Ten Commandments. Kind of like how some movies are BASED on a book or real life events. It wasn't supposed to be a direct translation. It was changed so that people (only white males though) could be free. And speaking of the 10 Commandments, everyone should see (or listen to) George Carlin's version. He shrinks it all down to 1 commandment which is all we really need. And that evolution article was just so bad...soooo bad that it makes all the other articles crap. How could someone be so stupid and expect people to actually believe what they're writing?!?! That article is almost as bad, if not worse, than the Bible.
Gryph Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 (edited) Thats your view thought.About the evolution thing? Well that guy's just completely wrong and moronic in that article. The rest are just my thoughts. Edited April 18, 2004 by GryphonKlaw
