Vista questions

Robert

Recommended Posts

My friend spent $470 on a compaq that came with Vista Home Basic installed.

Is it possible to run Nero, burn CDs, play downloaded music etc on it?

What control panel (or other) adjustments do you recommend?

Or is it too much of a shitpile, and try putting XP in instead?

vista home basic should run fine since it doesn't include aero

just tell him to do the usual tweaking that would be done with xp (turning off the security center and other services) in addition to turning off defender and UAC

what do you mean burn cd's and listen to music? why shouldn't it be able to?

Is that done from the control panel? Neither of us has ever used Vista before.

I thought it could only do DRM stuff.

Yes both can be killed from Control Panel, Defender can also be disabled via Services, amongst another dozen or so probably unneeded ones.

Yeah, it's done through the control panel and, no, media playback is not exclusive to DRM. You can use winamp, media player classic, etc just as you can in XP. Don't know where you got that idea.

I'll be going over there on Monday, hopefully we can get it working properly.

Don't really want to trying putting XP on it and having to find drivers.

Any more suggestions, please put them here.

Thanks Weirdy and Gavin. :)
