This game isn't generic. We haven't seen enough gameplay to tell for sure, but from the look of the rest of design, it doesn't spank of Doom's hallways, Quake's biomechanics, or Prey's alien crap. It looks like its got its own thing going.

The only "twist" in this game atm is the driving aspect, but sh!t, for that I'll go ahead and play Quake 2 and every time I beat a level switch up to Twisted Metal 2 and so forth.

Beyond the fact that there are some mutants in Rage there is almost NO resemblance to any of those games you mentioned. It also has guns...

If you look at the trailers, yes, the people are mixed with machines, and the freaking dessert area even reminds me of the first level when you walk outside in quake 4, same appearance. Same thing for Prey, majority mobs have some form psycho thing going, which by the name of this game, get my drift? Generic FPS, and I hope I'm proven wrong on this when more videos reveal themselves because hyping myself up for another disappointment after quake4 is not going to happen. Also, I said "Doom Enemies new Setting", I never mentioned anything of the location of Doom. I will however admit that as of late FPS's are beginning to be bore fests. The last time I had fun on one was when me and my friend rushed Serious Sam on coop.

How many post apocalyptic FPS/driving games are there? How many movies are like that? The post apocalyptic scenario is heavily based in a barren desert environment because it lends itself to a strong coherent style to have crazy survivalist bandits, crazy mutants, shanty towns, and everything else we see in the trailer. It's just a good setting for a game. If that type of setting doesn't appeal to you that's one thing but it's anything but generic.

 

What kind of environment would you expect in a post apocalyptic place? Purples trees and rivers made of chocolate?

It's a game by id software and they have a style. Every studio has a style. To expect a company to abandon it's style is just ridiculous and not even worth discussing. That's like asking SqEnix to not make a faggoty game for faggots or Epic to not have stupid character design made to appeal to 16 year olds.

 

From this short ass trailer with few flashes of gameplay and character design you have concluded that it looks like Quake 2-4, Doom series, and Prey.

Quake 4 is a game that takes almost entirely indoors which some small outdoor segments and (crappy) vehicle parts.

Prey is another game that takes place almost entirely inside a Dyson sphere. All you do is run and shoot and occasionally fly this crazy thing. And your spirit leaves your body.

Rage takes place in a large open desert space with broken down shanty towns. It has driving segments and some RPG elements.

 

They look so similar. They're humanoids. They're carrying weapons. They have some sort of gear on. Definitely generic.
