Having trouble with IE6

name something IE7 has that Firefox doesn't and I'll pull a golden egg out of my ass.

Compatibility and popularity. I know several sites designed specifically for IE and will not work on FF. Also, sites like this one http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp clearly show that IE (even IE6) is the most common browser.

Popularity? :(

Pseudo-compatiblity and ignorance. The only reason IE is more common is simply because the majority of PC users are ignorant and don't know that there are alternatives to IE.

Actually, it's because IE ships with Windows and is just THERE from the start.

If Microsoft was forced to provide IE and all open source alternative browsers as an option with Windows on install, more people would know IE wasn't all there is.

IE sucks ass, plain and simple. They've constantly butchered standards, and ANY web page designed "for" IE, is broken by default.

Yes, that too. :peopleseybrow: Anyway, that's how it is. All other reasons start from the second place.

Whatever dude. Another thing, if you think IE is unsecure, it may be in some categories, but the common person is uninformed and thinks that if they don't have an antivirus program and they accidentally go to a porn site and their computer is infiltrated with viruses, its IE's fault. IE works fine for me, and no I'm not being a fanboy, as I have portable FF on my flashdrive and use it quite frequently, I would just rather use IE on my desktop.

There have been over 5000 documented vulnerabilities in IE since IE 3, and over 1000 of those still exist........even in 7.

Have fun thinking nothing is IE's fault, and that an antivirus should be responsible for protecting your browser.

Secunia reports alone......

IE 7 - Affected By 19 Secunia advisories

Unpatched 37% (7 of 19 Secunia advisories)

IE 6 - Affected By 121 Secunia advisories

Unpatched 17% (21 of 121 Secunia advisories)

IE 5.5 - Affected By 70 Secunia advisories

Unpatched 9% (6 of 70 Secunia advisories)

And so on, and their lists are far from complete or including minor threats.

What I meant to say was when it comes to security, many people are not as secure as they think so they tend to shift the blame (some of which does not belong) to IE. Besides, as long as you don't visit malicious sites anyways, you shouldn't have a problem. What surprises me is how people ask me if I get any viruses on my computer and when I respond no they ask how in the world I do it. People just don't know how to protect themselves these days.
