BlackKnight Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 It DESERVES a remake, like it or not. Firstly how does it 'deserve' a remake? If it was really that good, then it should be able to prevail through time, not just get passed over because its graphics look first-gen 3d. Or were you one of those that were wowed by the then-mindblowing cutscenes? To all those people that love FFVII, go play it again. Secondly, why would you even want a remake? Again if the game is that great then it can only go downhill. Better graphics won't be all that come with a remake- it'll have a rescored / remixed soundtrack, re-written dialogue, a new 3d engine and probably a different aesthetic. There is no way a multi-million-dollar endeavour like remaking FFVII will stop at a graphical facelift, which is good. The bad part about a reinterpretation is that it will soil your original fond memories, while there wouldn't really be that much point in doing a straight visual upgrade for the hell of it. Also do you really want Cloud and Sephiroth talking? The movie is a different matter btw. Just to put this ramble in some context, remember how Metal Gear Solid, the best game of the PSX's generation, was remade and how we all just choose to pretend it wasn't.
Wizard Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I am quiet fond of the reinterpretation of MGS on Cube (using previous concepts). There was also REmake as well. Which gave the b-rated horror feel of the original Resident Evil a MAJOR boost in scare factor with it's madden up to date graphics. Origins is just a port of a port of a port of a port of an enhancement. Not a total face lifting remaking. FF3 was a total AND released in english (being previously not released in English). Also, it'll remain a tech demo. Just like the god damn Mother tease in the 64 era. DAMN how I wanted Mother 3.
L.S.D Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I still want a remake of FFVII though. I want to see how they can do it using next-gen graphical capability. The gameplay and the rest can remain intact though
Devia Eleven Posted September 11, 2007 Author Posted September 11, 2007 Hell, they made the bad call of making a sequel to FFX, so there is a good chance that they will make a shitshack remake, or sequel to FF7. All the dump puppies will buy it to see the EXACT same story with the EXACT same characters. Either that, or a similar story with the same characters. You know, I think I'm done paying to play the same game over and over. Hell, you idiots can, but dont go shouting about it.
Wizard Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Hrm, how was the X-2 sequel bad? By all means it was a fairly sucessful experimint.
OverlordMondo Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 FFX-2 was essentially just another Final Fantasy game. It also included a job system, always the best part of any Final Fantasy game to contain one. Changing jobs in battle wasn't all that great, though it did give an excuse to make some pretty introduction sequences. It was still plagued by the standard Final Fantasy problems, like ridiculously secret items that you can't go back and get later or being way too easy, but it was at least an average game.
Wizard Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 So I guess New Game+ doesn't fancy replayability for you then.
Agozer Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I still hasn't finished X-2 because I want 100% completion. Sphere Break agaist Shinra is difficult, or then I just suck.
Wizard Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I myself haven't been able to get 100%, but my younger sister has. She played that game night and day for months to get 100%. It was as good as getting 100% in KH1 and 2.
veristic Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 (edited) bullshit. Origins? FFIIIDS? the upcoming FFIV for DS? those aren't remakes? I really want FFVII remaked because the graphics were really sub-par due to the game being basically a first/second gen PS1 title. Not only that, but a LOT of people loved FFVII. It's what brought RPGs into the mainstream in America. It DESERVES a remake, like it or not.Bias. FF7 was overrated. It was good, but the same reasons its popularity carries on can't apply to later titles. Oh and those titles you handpicked are more or less RE-MASTERED versions of the game. Not a remake on the same level a FF7 remake would be. Not by a long shot. Advent Children was rather bad, Dirge of Cerberus a disappointment. Why do they carry on with this resurgence of FF7? Just cuz its popular, regardless of how bad they treat the property. Edited September 12, 2007 by nyuuka
Devia Eleven Posted September 12, 2007 Author Posted September 12, 2007 (edited) It was largely uninteresting, and getting some of the bonuses required the most cryptic acts that you would never figure out without a strategy guide. Hell, some of them required you to watch those sphere things and just sit there for minutes on end waiting for something to happen. A large number of the bosses in X-2 could be beaten simply by changing all girls to warrior or Dark Knight and having a warrior use Assault. The way the job system was set up could have been much cooler if the game weren't so bouncy, cheerful,a nd goofy so much of the time. As much as I seriously don't mind sex appeal on my games, it's not something I want games to be centered on. Edited September 12, 2007 by Devia Eleven
Wizard Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I would love to see a remake of FFIX too REMOVED FROM MY IGNORE LIST I LOVE YOU LSD.
OverlordMondo Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 So I guess New Game+ doesn't fancy replayability for you then. Not in this case, no. All this allows you to do is play through the game even easier than you did last time. It could help with your completion rate, too, I suppose, but if you don't have a guide, you're still flocked. Just like every other Final Fantasy game. They're easy, but if you actually want to get everything, you can't just finish the game and look stuff up online, you have to have a guide right from the start and follow it to the letter so you don't accidentally open a chest you weren't supposed to, or so you wait in the right area for a few minutes to see another line of text. New Game+ is normally a really cool feature, the game just needs to have a reason to be played again. If the dress spheres levels reset with your character's and/or required a greater commitment (rather than switching between them in battle, though you could always opt not to), then playing through the game again would have more meaning. Also, the game is so easy that even if you limited which spheres you use, you probably wouldn't have much trouble winning. I have gotten 100% in the game, it was a complete pain in the ass, I was following a completion guide and had to redo it a few times anyway because I missed tiny little details in the massive list of things you have to do. The mascots were totally cool, though. Also, Sphere Break is fun, and Blitzball was decent.
Wizard Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 D: But nearly every RPG is like that in the first place... THIS THREAD HAS LEFT ME IN DESPAIR
