Sybarite Paladin AxL Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 I'm overly hyped but I hafta sorta agree with Aoshi on this one, it's kinda not so StarCraftish. Wish they'd have made it more gritty like Warhammer 40k.
Rawrthness Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 after playing the first one for years this is a definite buy!!!!
Elazul Yagami Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 about starcraft one... i never actually played it, wasn't into rts's at the timebut i'm thinking of playing it, how does it hold up against current strat games like C&C Generals: Zero hour, or Warcraft TFT ? cause for example, i didn't like Red alert 2 when i played it, even though everyone swears by it. speaking of which, any other rts's around that are as fun as the above two, and will work on a VERY modest system (64 mb graphics card, 1.5 mhz processor, 512 ram)
Wizard Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 In short, Generals (and C&C3 to a degree) took a page to Starcrafts "3 Races" counter-balance way. Infact, I would say everything in Generals itself is influenced by SC and TFT. And it still holds alot of merit in competive play years after it's release (As scene by WCG, who have had it as it's one of it's main events since forever). While the standings may not be the same as a few years go (Boxar for one, went down in play after everyone picked up his techniques over the years), it is still one of the most competive games to play, and yes, I've attempted to go pro in this. And no, I don't use Zerg. Toss/Terran 4life.
BlackKnight Posted May 21, 2007 Author Posted May 21, 2007 Starcraft's stiff controls and dodgy 800x600 ONLY resolution will definitely be a jolt to the system after playing those newer games.
Rawrthness Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 starcraft 2 will blow away C&C3 and will require a good pc haha
BlackKnight Posted May 23, 2007 Author Posted May 23, 2007 starcraft 2 will blow away C&C3 and will require a good pc haha Considering the obscene amount of time and money Blizzard can afford to throw at a project, it blowing away an EA cash-in should come as no surprise.

I second that. C&C 3 is fun and all, but not as fun as the old ones. Besides you gotta hate the rush to mass build mammoth tanks/avatars/tripods and all that. C&C 3 has a very rudimentary rock paper scissor system, and it fails because all you do is build the biggest guns out there. And I also think they've been producing this game for alot longer than they might like to say. I mean, those gameplay vids looked pretty complete-ish. I do hope they keep most if not all the units from SC1 although I know Dragoons have been replaced by Immortals and Shuttles by Phase Prisms. I mean, stealth dark templars ftw.
Gryph Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I am very hyped for this. Starcraft is one of the few RTS games that I enjoy playing even though I am horrible at them.
Sultan Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I really hope it will run on a non-DX10 graphics card. Even if its missing some effects. Seems like overkill if it is DX10 required for a RTS game. Also I would hate to have to upgrade for one game. Their website is vague, but gives me hope that they'll keep us gamers who haven't upgraded very often since the original Starcraft in mind.
Sybarite Paladin AxL Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Well actually the game is based on DirectX9 The development team stated that they're considering adding in DirectX10 support as well, but nothing concrete as of yet.
Elazul Yagami Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 i honestly think that at this point in time, it'd be stupid for any developer to make a game using directx10 only.it's a huge loss of possible revenue when yuo think about it.
BlackKnight Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 And also, knowing Blizzard, and considering how far into development they have said SC2 is, I wouldn't be surprised if DX10 was a tiny blip on the horizon when work started on the game engine proper.
Gryph Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Blizzard has always made games that run pretty well and look good on not tip top PCs. One of the major factors that makes all of their games such huge successes.
