I'm trying to get Zinc running. The graphics are totally corrupted on every game, but the FPS counter is fine. Any ideas?

Next, I used ZincGui, and it says all the roms are missing, but if I start the game it runs - just bad graphics (as above).

Are you using OpenGL or DirectX? You have to have updated drivers and DirectX and that whole kit and caboodle.

OpenGL should already be in Windows. However, check your graphics card manufacturer's site to see if there is an update.

Also, get DX9.0c.

Screenshot can be taken with PrintScreen. Paste that into Paint and save as.jpg or.png. Upload with www.imageshack.us or www.photobucket.com

I decided to run it via the network on this pc which has win2kpro, direct-x 9.0c, and opengl. Zinc ran horribly slow, and the graphics were even worse! Here is a sample:

This pc has Intel 810 Graphics Hub (its onboard).

mame works ok.

The other pc has a Trident 3D Image 9750

everything else has good graphics

Just a thought: I don't know if it helps much but could you post a screenshot of ZiNc's long since it shows what error you have with the romset.

I'm starting to think it has all to do with your onboard graphics chip...

I had a play with the cfg files, and now the other computer (the one with win95 + trident card) has good graphics.

But it's sooooooo slow, much slower than mame. Any way to speed it up, as I understand that Zinc should be faster than Mame.

Disabling sound is pretty much the only thing you can do to speed it up and of course lowering the resolution (but that doesn't help much in the end).

Strange, since ZiNc IS faster than MAME.

Since you're using zincgui, try some of these to improve fps -

- Change Texture filtering/caching/quality to lower values (or 0).

- Change blending to 0

- Turn off scanlines and dithering

- Lower resolution

- Turn off sound

If that doesn't work, you can try frame skip and changing the frame limit to 60, but that may make the graphics stutter.
