OverlordMondo Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 flockING OWNS! I love this game. I've been playing it for a couple weeks now, and I'll review it when I take some screenshots, but as of now, just go buy it. The classes are all completely different, the PvP is original, focusing on massive battles rather than duels (though duels are still available). On a PvP server, the faction difference can get pretty intense. I try to rile people up on a regular basis. The crafting is awesome, and limited enough so that crafted items aren't too common. You have to actually interact with other people to get some equipment. Plus, I play, so you can spend time with me. Ghede on the Archimonde server. I'm starting my own guild, the Dark Student Council, and we're gonna go kick some daisy-eating Alliance ass.
Daeval Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 How does the combat work? Is it your typical EQ/AC/Every other MMORPG style where you basically auto-attack and then use special abilities as they recharge? And how do you gain new abilities? Do you have to grind a bunch of exp and cash and then go buy them from a trainer somewhere?
OverlordMondo Posted December 21, 2004 Author Posted December 21, 2004 (edited) No grinding, the majority of your XP will come from quests. Which still normally concern killing specific monsters or collecting certain items, are better than the "Go kill things" mentallity of everything else. You still buy skills, but they aren't expensive or anything... I've had enough money to buy every skill as soon as I reach the proper level, with some left over. The combat system can be described in that way...but something makes it better than the combat system I experienced playing EQ. Or maybe everything else about the game just makes me like it more. I mean, ultimately, it's an MMO, and if you just hate MMOs, this probobly won't change your mind. But if you've ever even thought about playing EQ, then I think you'll enjoy WoW. When I say it's awesome, I mean it's awesome in comparison to other MMOs and RPGs. Edited December 21, 2004 by LordKanti
Cominus Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 I know that WCIII handle like a real time stratagy style game, kinda like command and conqur, or age of empires, whatever.

This is an MMO, not and RTS, that occurs 3-4 years after the end of WCIII's expansion.

It still follows the established MMORPG formula, it just does it in its own way. I'm waiting for the MMORPG that breaks the mold established by EQ. Something where combat feels less like a chore and more like a fun game in its own right, where grinding, camping, farming, and all those other terms become obsolete, and where you can jump in and start enjoying things fully without playing for 27 hours just to get your most basic abilities first. In the meantime, to each his own, and may you enjoy WoW to its fullest.
Skythe Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 I really want to play it but don't feel like paying for that, FF11 and UO. Plus I barely manage my time enough between FF11 and UO.
Gryph Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 From what I've been reading everywhere, it seems Blizzard hit the nail on the head with this game. Hell, this game won best PC game of the year at Gamespot.
Skythe Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 Gamespot doesn't count for opinion. Nor does IGN or GameFAQs.
Inky Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 I want to play this game but I can't justify 50 bucks for a game and 10 bucks to play it. and I don't have enough time to be messing with an mmorpg. but from what I have heard and seen of the beta it looked vary interesting.
Skythe Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 $15 to play. Though I heard the first 30 days is free.
Inky Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 15 bucks to play.....damn. thats pricey. even with a month free figure 11 months is $165.00 plus price of game puts one year of play at over 200 smackers. no thanks I'd rather save that money for a new console.
OverlordMondo Posted December 22, 2004 Author Posted December 22, 2004 The first thirty days is free, yeah. I'm waiting for the MMORPG that breaks the mold established by EQ. Your basic abilities are acquired a lot faster than 27 hours (try lvl 2/3). Camping/farming/grinding is being reduced by quests...very little of it. And again, the PvP is intense, simulating an actual war. Someone walks into Horde territory, everyone knows about it, and everyone who can does something about it. Certain areas will be able to be captured following later patches (or perhaps the one I'm downloading now), and an Honor system is being implemented, rather than a simple kill count. I sound like I'm trying to sell you the game. If you want a fresh MMO, I've heard City of Heroes is good. I haven't played it yet, but I plan to try it. Possibly even by the end of the month. ... Nah, I can't stop playing WoW. Not unless there's a patch that takes 5 hours to download. Like there is. Right now.
kaioshade Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 I must be the only person here who actuallt likes eq2 over wow. I hate that everyone in wow looks the same. not enough customizations. And as much as i hate grinding, its TOO easy to level. I went out and bought both games, but eq2 is staying on my comp
