Fatal Rose Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 So how long after DSEmu is out will we be expecting an emulator to soon follow?
Gryph Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 DSEmu is the emulator. Right now it is at version 0.0.1b. Just check out the main page for the latest news: http://dsemu.oopsilon.com/
Fatal Rose Posted October 31, 2004 Author Posted October 31, 2004 I knwo it is, i meant that when its able to run DS games.
Agozer Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 (edited) I'll take a guess: when people have the full tech specs and docs of the DS... Plus, i'd like to see how they pull off the touch screen thing emulator-wise.To answer my own question, I think the developer should ultimately go down similar path to the PalmOS emulator. Two9A Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 I'll take a guess: when people have the full tech specs and docs of the DS... And you'd be right in that. Some people are speculating on how the DS renders the 3D information in memory, but they're getting poor results. It's wise to hold back on trying anything like that. To answer my own question, I think the developer should ultimately go down similar path to the PalmOS emulator. Do tell. I've not heard the story of the PalmOS emu before.

Agozer Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 (edited) Do tell. I've not heard the story of the PalmOS emu before. You can get the emulator from Palm's own site. You need to get those BIOS images or dump your own first to use it at all. Basically the PalmOS emulator just emulate touch screen via mouse input; You select icons with the mouse as you would with the actual pen. You can type memos and stuff like that by simply typing with the keyboard or by drawing shapes with the mouse (the "pen" needs to be calibrated first of course). Edited November 1, 2004 by Agozer

That's too far in the future for me to even contemplate methods of emulation right now, though; you don't mind if I pay more attention to graphics and sound?

Sure, just get something showing on the screen and some waveforms coming out of the speakers... then you can think about the touchscreen,
Hiroshi Nohara Posted November 8, 2004 Posted November 8, 2004 somehow this mouseinput thing and tying it into the actual emulated hardware sounds much harder than coding the actual emulator itself.

kn2usser Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 (edited) I have no idea how to use this information but may be you will know what it means and use it to get DS to work. I am a college student with little cash so I can not give support with money right now but I will support DS as much as possible in any other way possible. I hope this information will be helpfull to you. Dooz Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 I understand that the emulator is still in very very very early in the stages of development, but just so you know, every test rom crashes the emu for me. Why this is, I have no clue; if someone wants to help debug that, I'll be more than happy.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>If I knew how to debug it, I would, but I'm virtually computer illiterate. So, sorry, I can't.
RFLAGG Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 From the debugging output, it looks like the program didn't link properly. Of course, since the emulator does such low level things it could be all too many different things. Looks like a job for printf debugging Maybe I'll try sometime and install Windows, see if it works for me. I love debugging. As long as I don't have a class due date that is. 0_o
