  1. Anyone know why PDRoms is redirecting to DCEmu? I don't see anything about it on DCEmu's front page, and I didn't see anything on PDRoms about this in the past few weeks... Also haven't talked to Kojote in a while, so maybe one of you can tell me why one of my favorite websites is gone and replaced with wraggster's crap? :)

  2. Yes, I would still like to fix it, since I'm not getting my laptop till September. However, I also would rather not spend a bunch of money trying to fix it, because I'm not taking it to school with me. But if that's what it comes to, I'll be able to, since I built this computer as well as a few others, so I know what I'm doing there. Not too sure how to underclock the RAM, unless it's just a setting in the BIOS. (never really messed with over/underclocking except a tiny bit with my gfx card)

I'd also like to know why my wireless card won't work with Ubuntu, even though I have the right drivers (that have worked with Linux and ndiswrapper before).

    Also, my comp specs:

    Original specs

    Upgrades I've made since then

  3. Did you talk to Daath? I talked to the lead singer and bassist before. Saw them at Ozzfest a couple years back. Even got a bass string from the bassist he ripped it right off his bass for me.

My girlfriend talked with Goatwhore's vocalist for a while (they even got "married" after he made her a ring out of cut guitar strings) and I talked to and got a pick from Abysmal Dawn's guitarist. The singer from Daath was on sooooooo many drugs... he didn't look a single person in the eye before, during, or after their set. Daath's bassist also had to fill in for Goatwhore's bassist, who was not there and I can't remember why...

  4. Well, I ran it from the Ubuntu cd that I burned on a different computer, I ran it from GRUB, and I ran it from a slightly old version of the UBCD. None of them came up with any errors. I did, however, notice something else.

While trying to get wireless working on Ubuntu, it told me that my wireless card was disabled, and I'd have to turn it back on from windows. Well, after booting into safe mode and discovering that it was indeed enabled, I tried disabling it to see what would happen. When I rebooted and started windows normally, it didn't freeze. So now I'm stuck with a shitty install of windows and no internet. Good thing I'll be getting a laptop and going off to college soon... :D

  5. Well, I was able to install Ubuntu 9.04 successfully, and I ran memtest86+ from the Ubuntu cd... It didn't find any errors. I do, however, get these two errors whenever I load Ubuntu:

[lots of numbers] ata1: softreset failed (device is not ready)
[different numbers] ata2: sofreset failed (device is not ready)

... and then it boots up fine.

Does this mean there's something wrong with one or both of my hard drives? Or the drive controller, maybe? :(

  6. The RAM, eh? I guess I'll run ol' memtest86+ and a few others... I guess bad RAM isn't as bad as a dead mobo, cause at least RAM is getting cheap these days. I could probably replace all of my RAM for at or under $50. :(

  7. WELL HOWDY Y'ALL.

So my computer's being a bitch these days. Here's what happened.

For the past few months, it's been randomly freezing (and by freezing I mean the screen goes black and my monitor enters power save mode... all I can do then is restart) usually while I'm playing a game, watching a video, or sometimes just browsing the internets. With that, I could deal. Then, the other day, I installed Electric sheep, a cool screen saver that my friends have. As soon as it installed, my computer restarted (I was not prompted or told it would do so, it just did). Now, every time I turn it on, it freezes either at the Windows log in screen or a few seconds after I log in. I booted into safe mode and uninstalled the screen saver, but the problem persisted. System restore, nothing. I even reinstalled Windows. Still happens. Now, I've tried numerous distros and versions of Linux. They all either freeze during installation (usually at the partitioning phase) or they claim they have installed successfully, but when I restart Windows just loads right up (No GRUB or anything).

Fortunately, I'll be getting a laptop in a few weeks for school, but I'd really like to know what's wrong with my comp, especially since I want to sell it before I move into my dorm. So is this a virus, a hardware problem, or what?

  8. From drk||Raziel’s blog:

    Finaly some progress!

After many many many many many months of inactivity i finaly started some real work on the dynarec. It now features a basic IL with a working decoder frontend and backends for x86/arm/mips-allegrex.Work is currently done to port the code to Wii/ps3/ps2 ( only if libstdc++ worked …)/xbox.Anyway i don’t feel like writing atm maby i’l edit this post later

    *edit #1*

Note that the arm videos are much older than the psp, the arm rec misses MANY opcodes at that point. When ZeZu brings arm on par/i get the beagleboard he mailed speeds should be ~ 3x of what psp gets :)

    *edit #2*

To give some PSP numbers, bios (menu) is up from ~ 1.5 fps to ~9, Doa2 ingame from ~0.8 to ~4.5 , PoP3d from ~ 1.2 to ~9.Only 4x more to get PoP fullspeed :banghead:

    Results :

    PSP

    (video by PSPdemon)

    BeagleBoard

(videos by ZeZu — he’s the one working on the omap front atm)

    Bios

    Prince Of Persia

Dreamcast games running on a PSP... Even at those frame rates, whoulda thunk it?

  9. Well, he does mention "apps" as well as "games"... so I guess I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's looking for homebrew? Especially since the GnM can't run commercial ROMs...

Anyway, head over to PDRoms.de for lots of fun DS homebrew stuffs.

  10. PSP Custom Firmware 5.00 M33-3

A quick fix for the big bug introduced in M33-2...

    Changes:

    - A bug was introduced in 5.00 M33-2 that made some games and homebrew not to work.

    - PSN version check is now automatically bypassed without need of touching any setting.

    Source and Downloads: dark-alex.org

    3.71 Fatmsmod for 5.00 M33

Just a little update to the fatmsmod patch, it stopped working in 5.00 due to a sony file changing its name.

Instructions: decrypt 3.71 using psardumper (square option).

Copy the file fatmsmod.prx in the root of memory stick.

Copy FATMS371 to /PSP/GAME or /PSP/GAME5XX. Run the program and done.

    Source and Downloads: dark-alex.org

    About Fatmsmod:

Homebrew developer Dark_AleX has released an optional patch that allows users to load the original 3.71 FATMS driver on 5.00 M33 series custom firmware. In certain cases, applying this patch may greatly improve overall read and write performance with slow Memory Stick brands, such as Lexar.
  11. Doesn't already needing a homebrew enabled PSP kind of defeat the purpose though?

There should be an alternative utility for PC that allows you to create the magic memory stick if you don't have access to a homebrew enabled PSP or know anyone with one.

What is involved with the creation of the magic memory stick that needs a homebrew enabled PSP anyways?

If I understand you only need a homebrew capable PSP to create the magic memory stick, so why not create a PC utility that does this same thing since you can plug the PSP memory stick into a PC using an adapter or access it via your PC/PSP using a cable?

So all you would need is a modified battery/Datel tool battery and you're memory stick. Creating an application for the PC that creates the magic memory stick would be much simpler than actually needing a homebrew enabled PSP to do this.

People with homebrew enabled PSP's is not very common where I live and most PSP owners have no idea what homebrew or anything is beyond the official games or licensed applications.

I don't know anyone with a homebrew capable PSP or know anyone who knows anyone with a homebrew capable PSP. :thumbsup1:

My PSP has the TA-088v2 motherboard which is hackable.

Megaman_zer0 is right: If that were possible, I'm sure it would already have been made. However, in order to create a magic memory stick, you need to be able to run unsigned code on the PSP itself, and that can only be done if the PSP is already homebrew enabled. You can, alternatively, find someone who will help you out at this site: noobz.eu (They are very trustworthy and well-known in the PSP homebrew scene)

  12. PSP Custom Firmware 5.00 M33-2

    Changes:

    - Popcorn bug fixes:

    * Fixed bug that caused some games with certain icons not to work, and caused document.dat not to work.

    * Fixed critical bug that caused continous corruption of psx games in RAM.

    - Core bugfix: Fixed sctrlKernelSetInit* functions not working.

    - M33 network update doesn't work in 5.00 M33, fixed.

    - Added the posibility of loading version information from the file flash0:/vsh/etc/version.txt

By default is disabled. If you enable it in recovery, you could for example dump 5.01 firmware,

copy the version.txt from it to the flash, and bypass firmware check restrictions like those that

    may be in psn, etc.

This will also fake official network update (not m33 one), and running the update eboot (again, not m33 ones).

    - Plugins configuration file format changed.

The new format is as follows:

    * There is no more conf.bin file.

    * Now each line in vsh.txt game.txt and pops.txt will have a 0 or a 1 at the end. 1 indicates

that the plugin will be loaded, 0 (or anything else) that it won't be loaded.

Entering in recovery in 5.00 M33-2 wil automatically convert the old format configuration

to the new one (this may cause a delay first time you enter in plugins because of conversion).

    - Added optins under advanced configuration that allow enable/disable of plugins in a certain configuration.

    By default they are enabled.

    Source and Downloads: dark-alex.org

Alternatively, if you already have a custom firmware installed on your PSP, you should be able to use the Network Update feature to update your custom firmware. To enable the M33 network update feature: Boot into recovery mode, go to Configuration and set "Use M33 network update" to Enabled. If you are running a custom firmware that does not have this option, DO NOT use the network update feature to update, or you will end up with Sony's official firmware.

    Popsloader for 5.00 M33-2

popsloader for 5.00 M33-2 and up (until Sony screws it again)

    Requeiments:

    - 5.00 M33-2, it won't work in 5.00 M33-1

    New:

    - Works on 5.00.

    - Added 3.80, 3.90 and 4.01.

    - Upgrade from older version of popsloader:

    * Copy seplugins to memstick root folder replacing files.

    * Dump 4.01 (choose decrypt all option in psardumper) and copy the file impose.prx in /seplugins/popsloader/ with that name (impose.prx, without numbers)

    - Install from scratch:

    * Copy seplugins to memstick root folder replacing files.

    * Dump the desired firmware to extract the files needed. (choose decrypt all option in psardumper)

Thse are the files needed for each firmware:

    3.02-3.03: /kd/pops.prx, /kd/popsman.prx, /kd/meaudio.prx, /vsh/module/pafmini.prx

    3.10-3.30: /kd/pops.prx, /kd/popsman.prx, /vsh/module/pafmini.prx

    3.40-4.01: /kd/pops.prx, /kd/popsman.prx, /vsh/module/pafmini.prx, /vsh/module/libpspvmc.prx

    * Copy the files to /seplugins/popsloader with firmware version as suffix (e.g. popsman.prx -> popsman380.prx)

    * Additionally, no matter which pops you want to run, you have to get impose.prx from 4.01 and

copy it to /seplugins/popsloader/ with the name impose.prx (no suffix).

  13. For those of you who don't know what the Utopia project is: Utopia Kernel for PSP - Open Source, Dedicated Homebrew Kernel in development

My bad everyone I have been pretty busy lately due to personal issues. I haven't been able to setup the svn because I always lacked the time to do it :/

I am posting the current sources here on the forums and if someone or even the staff could take care of setting up a svn or such a similar solution it would be great.

Again sorry for the wait :/

Thanks to Silverspring who coded most of these sources.

    Cheers.

P.S. These sources are to be BSD licensed so make sure you respect it !

  14. PSP Custom Firmware 5.00 M33

    There it is.

    Changes:

    - 4.01 to 5.00

    - Bug fix: when changing speed in xmb, and the psp turned the brightness to 0 automatically the speed was reseted to 222 again.

Source and Downloads: dark-alex.org release thread

1.50 Kernel addon for 5.00 M33 (phat PSPs only)

Instructions: Copy to /PSP/GAME5XX and run.

Note: because even deleting LFTV and korean font there was not enough space this time, this version will delete also flash0:/dic/apotp.dic

I'm unsure about what this file is for (maybe for japanese text predicition?) but system works fine with it.

IF you want to keep some of the things deleted by the 150k_installer do following things.

    - Install DC7. Use the Format flash options in nand operations menu. Make flash1 size like around 1 MB smaller, make flash3 the smallest possible, and make flash2 a bit smaller (not too much, or you won't be able to download games and demos from psstore). Then, make flash0 as big as possible and continue.

    - Install 4.01 M33, update to 5.00 M33.

    - Install 1.50 addon. Dump 5.00 using the latest psardumper, and flash the deleted files you want back.

Source and Downloads: dark-alex.org release thread

    PSPStates 2 (PSP Slim only)

This is same version as the one for 4.01 M33 but updated to do patches in 5.00 M33, that's why version hasn't changed yet.

Remember to discard old savestates from 4.01 before using the plugin. If you attempt to load a savestate made in 4.01

your ram would be in 4.01 M33 but the flash in 5.00 M33, and soon or later it will crash or give problems.

Source and Downloads: dark-alex.org release thread

Also, a note from DAX on a problem with PSX games in 5.00 M33

This is a bug in M33 code that is caused sometimes with certain icons.

I'm not gonna bother do an update only for this but I'll post the file that fixes this for anyone wanting to fix it manually replacing the file.

This also fixes document.dat not working.
