Make sure you've updated to the latest firmware for your R4 (which I believe is 1.17). If that doesn't work, you may need to reformat your memory card or download your ROMs from somewhere else (don't ask for ROM sites here, though).

Also, what is this pandora's battery I keep reading about?
Pandora's Battery is a special battery that boots the PSP into service mode which, when paired with a Magic Memory Stick, allows the user to downgrade their PSP, regardless of their current firmware. Any regular battery can be made into a Pandora's Battery, as long as someone you know has a PSP with either fw 1.50 or a custom firmware.

Well it turns out the order I thought I canceled with Gameyeeeah wasn't so I'll be getting the R4 sometime late next week.
Finally got the R4 today. What are the best emulators for SNES, NES, Genesis, etc that work well on the R4?
SNES: SNEmulDS
NES: nesDS
Genesis: jEnesisDS
etc: DSMasterPlus (SMS/GG), LameBoy (GBC), MarcaDS (MAME)

It's simple. There are only 2 steps;
1) Install the latest Custom Firmware
2) Convert your PSX ISO into a PSP formatted file
Installing custom firmwares is a separate question. As for how to convert your PSX games, look here.
Yes your tutorial was the first article i had read on this site and it would seem i realy DO need custom firmware ,But im terrified of downgrading, and is their another way to do it without the pandora battery(im sorry if im bothering you guys but im technilogicaly impared
)Since you have a PSP Slim, Pandora's Battery and Dark_AleX's Despertar del Cementerio are your only options. As long as you can follow simple instructions, there is no need to be afraid of downgrading.

I'm pretty sure you can only buy certain PSX titles from Sony; they don't let you convert your PSX game discs/ISOs. That's why most of us here use CFWs.

If anyone is thinking about buying a PSP Slim, be warned: newer PSP Slims have a new motherboard that blocks Pandora's Battery. I, myself, have encountered one of said PSP Slims.
Doesn't the newest Universal Unbricker circumvent this?
