Let's face it, PORN is becoming TOOO GOOOOOD! in Men's Corner [/swag] Posted January 4, 2012 I agree with your general premise GC...porn is to good...its easily accessible and free. But the way people use porn is where it may differ. Statistics say something like 70% of men aged 18-34 view porno regularly, and we know what they're using it for. Close to 90% whack off with porn or without. To that end, I just see it as a means to help in that process. Does everyone need porn to do it? No...but it sure can help. How much of that percentage use porn for those means in exclusion to going out and getting the real thing? Don't know. It's probably a much smaller percentage. My point being that...while a majority of men do watch some variety of porn, a sizable chunk includes those who are married, in relationships etc. What porn has done is warped some men's expectations of what sex and intimacy mean. If you started out as a young teen watching porn, and continued to do so...its going to have an affect on how you see women, relate to them etc. Is it going to be totally ruinous to having a healthy relationship? Not necessarily...it must just might be one more hurdle to overcome. Sort of like body issues that young women have and the conflicting messages society throws at them. Some overcome...some don't. Now they cant and men are becoming a lot more independent. I disagree. Women have been becoming more, and more, independent from relying on partners/mates to secure financial, and familial, stability. With women (in 1st world countries) securing higher, and higher, paychecks, and on average getting better college educations, they're now putting themselves in sociologically unique positions where they can go for pure physical relationships. A sexual liberation of sorts that will continue to grow until more areas around the world are somewhat neutral/equal concerning financial status availability across sexes. I understood Em's point a different way. All your points about the status of women in 1st world countries are spot on. Many women don't need men for financial support. In the U.S., women have surpassed men in college enrollment, graduation rate, and make up a larger chunk earning post secondary degrees. Not only have women caught up and passed us...but men are actually doing worse...and that's the double whammy. So what you now have is a growing population of educated, financially independent women looking for a mate with similar qualities. But the pool of men they have to choose from is shrinking. The eligible men are getting scarce. This benefits (or can be taken advantage of by) men because they can be more choosy....or sleep around more because if they are a "catch", the odds favor them. For every 1 guy, there are 2-3 girls...the gals come off on the worse end of the stats. If you talk about minorities, its even more bleak.
