  1. When it comes to neo geo emulation nrx rocks, and the fact that you can even use it on low spec machines proofs that it is a waaay better emulator, of course it is lacking in certain aspects but as it is was said, the emu is no onger updated and i doubt it ever will and the hacks, they SUCK soooo much

most seems to think that way, but its never true. you missed the point in the first place.

emulate = mimic, and thats basically it. in this case, Neogeo hardware and games were being mimicked. in human terms, if you try to mimic a person and missed a distinct detail or two, then that wouldnt be at least close copy (when compared to others that mimics the same person more completely). go play Last Blade 2 at a real arcade and take a closer look at the fiery house stage. now play it on NRX or Kawaks. it might be a little detail altogether but those little details makes mimicking closer to perfection.

also, MAME isnt just slow because of crappy programming or anything, and it has always been like that for a reason.

call me a geek anything but i personally dont give a rat's a$$ on what emus you want to use. but if the discussion is about the better neogeo mimicker, i can safely assume that NRX is not the perfect emulator afterall.

as a side note, theres no perfect neogeo emulator, not even MAME.

  2. Well....last kawaks update I have is 1.46. Can't rember FBA (not on my comp now) but its a pre-neogeo playable one...has nine in it.

The only thing I update is NRX, to play new roms on my super slow ass six your old computer. Another reason I don't update often is  the fact that my ping is to sucky for kaillera, so I'm not motivated to update my emu's......:shootem:

Hmm...I'll look forward to the new FBA....about time it plays neogeo games.

i actually still use my 300 Mhz Celeron PC here for everything including emulation (jeez, and i thought im alone now since Agozer now has a new workhorse :P).

ive always used NRX, Kawaks just didnt satisfy me with its performance but since ive used FBA (along with learning to compile my own build), i never had to wait for hacked P ROMs (which took days to weeks back then) just to make it work. plus it was faster than Kawaks ever did on my comp. oh, and i never bothered to look back to NRX either.

MAME level accessibility + near NRX speed, total package for me i say.

  3. Well all the values look the same, and its the same algorithm (although using BITSWAP expects a whole lot of the compiler's optimizer if it is going to be as fast as just switching bits 16 and 1 directly).

Whats interesting is that kof2003 is included, but then the values look to be placeholders.

I was trying to figure out why I can't get the real mslug5 vs. Encrypting gives me this:

    268-v1d.bin: c3540e0d

    268-v2d.bin: 077bd2f4

    268-v3d.bin: 39b14567

    268-v4d.bin: 969ff3b2

    268-v1.new: e66e4f61

    268-v2.new: 94b46260

    And I'm expecting these:

    268-v1.bin 33c6305c

    268-v2.bin 1afb848e

I think the problem is my vs are bad. Sticking them together, they are

    268-v1d.bin  0ab43275 8388608

    268-v2d.bin  358b1419 8388608

    When they should be,

    268-v1d.bin 14848c5c

    268-v2d.bin 696cce3b

Does anyone have/can make a patch between between these v's?

you have the original release decrypted V ROMs which were said to be bootlegs. heres are the patches you need (for 2x8 MB vxd ROMs)

    268_vxd_patch.zip

  4. its not that bad to be honest, its quite good like Agozer says. its just that the PSX and PC version were, to put it simply, PORTS and emulating the arcade version is like playing the real thing.

its like having to choose between the real thing and a dumbed down port (by which the answer is obvious). do the math.

  5. old Arcade to PC fighting games ports seems to end up being mediocre than emulating them. i have SFZ2 for PC here and even FBA emulation ran it better on my comp. the framerate isnt the issue but music doesnt sync like the arcade version does and the intro is on a blurry AVI file (like the PSX version), i think i can safely assume SFZ/SFA isnt any better.

  6. hmmm.. it worked on kof2k2

    command-line used - "265 4 2 > kof2002.txt"

4 decrypted V ROMs and 2 encrypted Vs. verified by KDev RC dat

ive first took mistake the cart-id (wrote 268 instead of 265) and it gave me an illegal operation. when i corrected it, it worked fine.

the output was the same without redirecting the result, it only printed the results on screen. used the same command-line without "> kof2002.txt"

  7. the encryption for this game is the same as ROTD and MS4 did and the v2v tool can deal with it (unfortunately, v2v just isnt easy to use). no need for reverse engineering to find out about it. the V encryption for KOF2002 and above games are vastly different, already known but not publicly released.

check attachment for V encrypter (props to SuperCodex for upping it @ RS)

  8. See above, and note that Tim banned me after I called him out for messing with filters on the board so as to make my nickname appear distasteful, and saying he put the filter in because of a word someone posted in a thread (Theres no way in hell some thread matched the part of my nickname......and the filter's still in place to this day)

actually, much as i hate to break it to you, it is true.

    http://www.jtf.org/

i cant recall why Tim hated that site. the way Tim works, you should have an idea by now - its either someone spamming A@H with the site or political view differences - or both. it was a coincidence i say.

  9. youre right, just the second character. all the bosses are usable even in console mode, just not in practice mode in FBA (not a clue how it goes on other emus). but as far as i know, the s1 crc doesnt matter since the glitch fixes are mainly in the P1. and ive even used the same S1 CRC for both (AAEsomething)

  10. 8ae0710d (6 MB) - P1 Plus fixed CRC that i used a while ago

as far as i remember it didnt have gameplay stopping glitches (like Zero's triple rod in red blood setting, etc.) but it had FBA-specific problems in console mode (cant select characters in practice mode). not sure if those problems would appear in Kawaks.

  11. 1) No. The only solution to use windows on a mac is to use an emulator. One of the best is VirtualPC, unfortunately it's not free.

    2) MacOS X is based on OpenBSD, reputed to be the most secure system nowadays. So it could be pretty hard to get the password so easily. However maybe such a tool exists, but since passwords are kept in a crypted database, well...

    3)Sorry, I don't know any.

If you find no other solution, you can try to reinstall the system as a last option.

    EDIT:

This should be of use to you.

FYI, in the future, remember google is your friend. If you can't find something using Google, you're trying too hard (ie: using too many words)

The link you gave is about windows, not MacOS. However, maybe John the Ripper could help if the pass is not too complex.

If you read his post, it sounds like he wants to use a MAC to troubleshoot a PC that someone forgot the password to. If this wasn't the case, why would he be asking about formatting a hard drive with a Windows filesystem, using a MAC?

thanks for the replies, i think this is enough for me to stop with the idea.

taratata's right. im talking about MacOS password, and if theres just no way knowing the password for it, then the plan is to convert it to a PC. but from your replies, i guess thats just not possible (i figured as much) :thumbsup1:

  12. hi all,

my friend asked me to do some research on Mac as we may use it to troubleshoot someones machine. because of this i decided to ask a few questions as i dont even have a clue on where to start.

1.) the last time i heard (which was a long time ago), Macs use a different kind of processors but uses the same type of harddrives (only differs on formatting). the question is, is it possible for a Mac to be formatted to use Windows?

2.) the only real reason we have to troubleshoot that machine is because the owner of it lost his password and can only log on to it as a user. someone else changed the password, is it possible for me to know that password? hacking or a program that can do it is what i have in mind, but dont have a clue on what resources i could use/accessible to me. this question may be breaking the forum rules though.

3.) can someone direct me to a "Mac-for-Dummies" kind of site if it isnt too much to ask?

i would definitely appreciate if i could get a relevant reply. i didnt post this in the PC Technical Help because..well....its just not a PC thing :\
