  1. Only available in the US...so duh, alot of users on here aren't from the US.

I think this place is probably the most diverse, at least in terms of active users, forum I've been on.

With users from Australia to Romania, and China to Canada.

  2. Firewalls for home users are like carrying pepper spray in the middle of the arctic...never used one, never will.

I haven't used a firewall in like 5yrs like cinder said for home user's there is really no point in it.

What if someone sneaks a trojan on your pc and your firewall blocks its access after discovering your bank details?

A firewall isn't going to save you from a trojan that is already present on your system, very easy for the trojan (and common I might add) to use a generally accepted port for it's outgoing communications that a firewall wouldn't notice or think much of.

Besides...isn't that your ANTIVIRUS' job in the first place?

Firewall's are to keep malicious attackers OUT, I don't know of any REAL hacker that would have a use in breaking into my stuff. Besides, good luck jumping through all the hoops in my network and spoofing your MAC address at least 2 different times in the process to even make it to my machines.

Edit: I DO use the firewall on my end point router, but only to block specific addresses from being reached from WITHIN my network TO the internet. Simple IPTABLE rules to drop packets to/from a destination, and nothing else.

Software firewalls on Windows that block everything unless otherwise permitted are nothing but resource hogging piles of steaming dogshit.

  3. record high today 86F.

30c, you can keep it any time of the year...too hot.

It is currently 24 degrees. We had alittle snow yesterday, sun melted alot of it but it refroze at sunset.

That's about -5c, where you living now?

It's -13 here right now and I like it! Till the wind starts up and makes it feel like -25...

  4. Avast, I won't use anything else. AVG won't let you do selective scanning (On certain files or folders) or IGNORE something I know isn't a fucking virus, I stopped using it for that reason.

Symantec could make their shit free and I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole, and Microsoft puts out bloatware.

  5. I think manufacturers should start offering boards with upgradeable NB/SB. Then they can key RAM all the same, and it's just a matter of replacing your NB to use a higher speed RAM.

With AMD's CPUs having their memory controller on the CPU itself, this makes such a thing even easier.

  6. I already suggested more than once over the last few years, to simply create Parent Forums for each manufacturer to clean the index page up.

Then it doesn't matter if we have 20 forums, or 200. And it doesn't take more than some clicks to do, there's no actual work involved.

Right now they're just CATs with the forums listed under them. Just make the cats PARENTs instead.

  7. Just make sure you don't buy an AM3 only motherboard, and an AM2/AM2+ CPU! They are NOT compatible, even if you remove the keying pins on the CPU (Which still works in an AM2 mobo afterwards).

You need an AM2/AM2+/AM3 motherboard, and yes there are boards out there that are made for AM3 only.

  8. Probably be ALOT cheaper for you to find someone in North America that you trust, to purchase parts from Tigerdirect/Newegg or wherever and have them ship them to you.

I'd be willing to do it with the money up front, I don't have the funds right now to cover being reimbursed.

Get it all shipped here, then box it all up in a single box and ship it out insured at value.

  9. I LOVE the cold, I hate the snow. If it was colder, it wouldn't be snowing, at least not so hard.

That's part of why it is, it's like PERFECT snow temperature right now at -5. Every little bit of precipitation is falling as large snowflakes.

Me and -30c agree! Just bundle up and you're good. I can't stand it when it's hot.

  10. If I want to die of a heart attack, sure I'd let it pile up. Would take me about 6 hours straight shoveling then.

It's still falling, I just shoveled another few inches away. Thankfully it seems to have slowed a fair bit, I shouldn't wake up to another 1.5-2 feet in the morning.

I hope not, I have nowhere to put it anymore. That snowbank on the front lawn is well over 7' high now.

  11. Yeah I'm about 1hr drive/90-10km north of Toronto.

This is a pic 5 minutes ago. I've shoveled 5 times since to keep things clear, and my car was cleared at 8:30 this morning. It was still warm enough to have snow melt off it, a few inches. There is 6" or so on there now.

    dscf0015s.th.jpg

Point of reference, I'm 6'3"...that snowbank is just taller than me now.

  12. This was nice to wake up to this morning at 6am...the snow on the van was only from 10pm last night, ignoring the 4-5 inches or so prior that I already shoveled a few times up till 2am!

My little Hyundai was buried alive, I could see that one mirror peeking out and a bit of the front quarter panel.

If you didn't know better, it looked like there was another minivan under the snow on it.

I hate winter...we're supposed to get another 36cm in the next 8 hours. Double that over the next 24.

Who else has some snow sucks pictures of recent where they are?

  13. I appreciate classic American Muscle cars, it's the new garbage that people seem to think is shit hot I can't stand.

Newer Corvette? ASS...all power, greasy bacon fat handling on the road just like the Viper.

The new iterations of the Charger? Fucking please.

The Mustang has sucked for a long time...

If that's the best they can throw out, I'm not impressed. Japan has the "Muscle" these days, with cars that may not have a huge engine under the hood, but can out-handle the above cars by FAR where their HP means fuck all.

My fav cars in no particular order?

    1968 Dodge Charger

    2000 Mazda RX-7 Type RB

    Lamborghini Countach (Stuff it Diablo)

  14. Hmm.

Well I do know for certain you should have started it up at least once a week. If you let it sit for too long, gas is not your only problem.

Nope, sure ain't. When I put my car back on the road, perfectly good parts had gone bad from sitting. I had to replace a wheel cylinder(Rear driver brakes) and a hub assembly (Rear passenger wheel bearing).

Funny thing...took me 10 minutes total to do both, parts $110. Parts a bit more at mechanic, but over $275 in labor...an hour to change that wheel bearing that took me (I shit you not) FIVE minutes! Quote was well over $400.

In all fairness, the quote was book...but is obviously based on pressed bearings, which mine are not!

Learn to fix your own shit people, save yourself LOTS of money!

  15. You guys don't pay a sur-tax on blank media though, we do here...and it keeps entities such as the RIAA(Or CAD equivalent) from opening their yaps even.

$5 50s of blank DVDs? Budget brands? There's plenty of those here, but I won't use cheap never heard of media, it's always been junk when I have.

I buy Maxell or the Staples discs, as I know they're CMC MAG discs (Only 3-4 actual manufacturers of blank media in the world).

  16. Turkey was badass, moist, not even close to dry. Homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes with mozzarella baked into it, and more. Ate like a king, drank a beer and passed out. had to be at work at 4:45 AM for Black Friday.

I remember like it was yesterday, when having 40 Gigs was alot... and pretty damn expensive. (12 or so years... wow time flies) Now you can get 1000 Gigs for less than 40 Gigs then... (Black Friday or not, thinking of it this way... its INSANE)

What I'd like to know is why Optical Media is still so expensive in comparison. A friggin hard drive that's 20x the size of a DVD, costs less than half the amount per-GB.

A 50 pack of DVD-Rs here? Average price not on sale is around $30-$35 in stores. Say what? 300GB or so in optical media, for the price of a ~600GB hard drive?

  17. There is no story to MK...sure they have snippets about each character at the end of the game etc, but there is no "Story".

It's like complaining about the Street Fighter movie, on any level other than poor acting/choreography, there is no merit to the complaints regarding story etc.

People hated the Double Dragon movie for anything beyond poor acting? Why? It's based on a game with a minimalist backstory...

The last MK movie, I thought Sub Zero was POORLY acted...OVER-acted.
